intel Z68 mATX and mini ITX thread

a vr-zone.com news named the Asus Maxiumus IV Gene-Z as the first mATX from ASUS. A site in switzerland, where you can compare prices, lists this board, too.
 
I'm perfectly okay with being an early adopter for a Z68 ITX board. I just hope it won't cost me an arm and a leg.

just added the asus Maxiumus IV Gene-Z to the first post. it's now midnight so technically these should launch. i dont see them on newegg yet, but hopefully in the morning.

as of now, i honestly don't know which mATX Z68 to get... they're all more or less the same.
 
Looks like it may be a few weeks for mitx boards... I'm losing patience, considering matx. What are the smallest few matx cases out there, anyone know?

Hmm. I want to put a mini ITX Z68 board in a Lian Li PC-Q08 case. My constraint is the case must hold lotsa hard drives. If I must go mATX Z68 then I'd likely get a LIAN LI PC-V354A case. Dimensions are 16.56" x 13.82" x 12.07" vs. 13.60" x 8.90" x 10.70" for the PC-Q08. My preference is for mITX.

I'm waiting to see whether Zotac will introduce a Z68 mITX board with specs similar to the H67ITX-C-E, which has 6 (2 SATA6 + 4 SATA3) headers. To my knowledge no other 2nd gen Core i7-i5-i3 mITX board has that many SATA headers.

The 354 is a great case if you need the added room and cooling for gaming or Tuner cards. But after gaming with ITX from the Gigabyte H55N... not sure I would see any benefit going bigger ;)

random note: ASUS's Z68 now lists everything but the Maximus IV GENE....


Earlier this morning, they only had (iirc), the "V" variant on there.

:eek: Could you please direct me to the link please?. Didn't know about Gigabye Z68 pics before only Zotec one.

Only 4 Sata ports is going to annoy some people. Including me. Still maybe could use the mPCI-e to mount a 2 port expander in... The CPU socket is in an ok place, and the ATX power is fine too. Can't really count fan sockets form that photo...though the curvature is kind of worrying :p Will need to mod the side panel of case...:D

Couldn't you just hook up a Sata>E-sata cable and mount it somewhere on the backplate?

Zotac's Z68 mini-ITX boards listed for sale in Japan

It has e-sata and dual DVI + Hdmi. With a built in GT 430 (no PCIex16 but has what looks like a x4 port)... also has info on the other board.

The pricing is in yen, and is $241 For the basic version (Z68ITX-WiFi), and $292 for the GT 430 equipped Z68ITX-B-E, but the US prices will probably be less than this.

Just mount a bracket on the front/back of the case, if it doesn't already have one. That's what I'm probably gonna do :)

integrated gt430 is pretty creative, although i wish they had something either a little stronger or more new.
 
I'm guessing they are going for the HTPC crowd. For movies/3d movies a 430 would be more than enough, and would simplify the whole thing.

You could probably run almost any game on it with reduced (or severly reduced) settings too, though the 1gb would be a giant pain if running multiple monitors. I wonder if you can use all 4 ports at the same time...
 
Oh, I noticed you haven't got the Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 (cheaper model with a few less features) mATX
