intel Z68 mATX and mini ITX thread

After seeing the spec's on the new X79 chipset who wants one of these in micro-ATX flavour??

I'm certainly hanging for one to show up to replace my EVGA X58 Micro ...
 
fitting 4 DIMM slots on mini-ITX is going to be a challenge! maybe if there is a mini-ITX X79 it would use SO-DIMM instead? also I read a retailer comment on another forum that the cheapest Sandy Bridge E CPU will be more than double the price of an i7-2600K :eek:
 
That's bullcrap, about the price.
About the X79 mITX, yeah they will go SODIMM notebook style probably. 2 banks on the front, 2 banks on the back of the mainboard.

That, of course, if there will be mITX x79.
 
If you are "Friends" with Zotac on FB they posted pics of their Z68 mini-itx board yesterday. It's probably the same pics from the show though.
 
Ofcourse that I don't know, but let's be realistic...that "retailer" is he sure? Because that "more then double" price, was on some SB-E engineering samples posted on e-bay a month ago.

At launch the prices will probably be a bit high, but at the moment i5 2500k is around the same price E8400 was.
 
Buying the Zotac Z68ITX-A-E as soon as it is availible, unless someone else comes to the market first with the exact same specs.

Maybe a little pessimistic, but it's UK so taxes inevitably skew things a little. 2600K costs £230-£240, retailer expects SB-E to start the wrong side of £500. I was expecting it to be £375-£450. Either way I don't see the X79 as being compelling for µATX and mini-ITX systems. The Z68s just look to be too good value, and Ivy Bridge will be approx. 6 months after SB-E so the money saved would pay for another upgrade then.

That info has not been released yet. Since ASUS is now listing it on their website my guess it won't be much longer. :D

Compact? Need to define that word. MATX mobo plus a 12" GPU? Your talking 13" or 14" in depth which I think there are a couple but thats not easily carried. Unless its in tower form. My SG03 is easier to carry than some of the bigger cubes. It'll take a 5970 if I swap out the lower fan and put in a slim 120mm. Thing gets toasty warm with the newer quads though. The best solution would be if nVidia and ATI could make their best cards smaller. Thats what is making these SFF cases so big anymore. That plus the need for a big hsf and psu although I think the long GPUs are a bigger problem. Even a iTX case needs to be long to hold a 12" GPU.

Compact doesn't need to have a small footprint, I'm more talking volume, like SG07 is compact.

SG02-F would be good if it wasn't for the limited cooling capacity..

Lan Gear Da Box seems to be a good design...but pretty much impossible to find not to mention it would be very expensive to ship to Australia if found.

I agree. With the HD 6990 and GTX 590 holding Dual GPUs and being under 13", why cant they build a single GPU card that is 7-8" long?
 
Purty..... Asia and Europe usually get them 2-3 weeks before NA so we'll see if they continue with that tradition. Won't be long now.
 
I found the 2 zotac boards on a UK site for 125 GBP for the Z68ITX-A-E (standard with no graphics card)
and Z68ITX-B-E for 130 GBP (the one with the built in GPU)

This retailer does look pretty pricey for other items, so expect cheaper prices when it gets to more retailers. US prices should be futher below this too.
 
Hmm...mid july, that is mega suxx.
Only P67 and Z68 will support Ivy? If H67 supports it aswell i think I'm gonna buy the Asrock H67. Don't wanna wait that long for the MB :/
 
Z68 mobos will with a BIOS update. The P67 is dependent on the mobo supposedly. Thats what I'm hearing anyway. Go with a Z68 if you want to play it safe I'm thinking.
 
Just catching up on the thread. So...we have a Zotac board that will be coming out soon and perhaps a Gigabyte board coming later? I'm as impatient as the next guy, think I'll give one of these Zotac boards a shot when they arrive. I've been sitting on this case for a few weeks and I'm dying to get it going, just need a few liquid parts to get me started...

Wow, Gigabyte, by then, everyone will have moved on to Ivy Bridge SFF. Way to be a day late and a dollar short, or, in this case, a year late, and millions of dollars short. Total fail.
 
Anyone heard anything on the Zotac Z68ITX boards lately? I've got an email into Zotac, but nothing back yet.
 
I just saw today that they ran a contest last week to give away the Z68 ITX Wifi to someone who liked them on facebook. Zotac mentioned that they would be one of the first to receive the board.

It ended on the 21st and Zotac said it would be 7 days after that before the winner was announced so June 28th. So for sure we won't be seeing the board this month, but it would seem maybe early next month wouldn't be too far-fetched. Hmm, fireworks or motherboard... ;)
 
I noticed yesterday that IBUYPOWER.com is now selling the Maximus IV GENE-Z in their Lan Warrior builds. I guess it won't be long now before we see them in retail stores. :)

Ivy Bridge uses the same chipsets and the same socket IIRC so no big deal for them

Yeah, there is a rather pointed rumor (dunno if Intel themselves confirmed it, I haven't been keeping up with Ivy news) that states Intel will be keeping 6 series chipsets and LGA1155 as drop in compatible for Ivy Bridge. Probably related to notebook vendors (which use a different, PGA socket) rausing a ruckus over yet another completely imcompatible platform in less than a years time, after the previous one :p).
 
Do you guys think the on board wifi will be any good? ive read some reviews about the zotac h67's wifi being bad and am wondering if they will improve it for the z68. im curious because the onboard wifi is the major selling point for me and if the new z68 board's wifi is better ill wait for that mobo.
 
There is no other Z68 mITX board. Besides, you can always replace the wifi card with a new one. Or just use a USB wireless adapter :)
 
You can grab the intel wifi n cards for fairly cheap (I got a wireless n for something like $18 which I will replace the zotac's one with if it turns out not so good), which would fit in that socket. It's just an mPCIe.
