HTC Touch Pro

You need to make sure the GPS is turned on.

Start\Settings\Personal Tab ---> Phone\Services Tab --> Select "Location Setting" and click "Get Settings" and make sure On is set.

Already did that before. :)

Yeah it's a bit hard to get info sometimes because there are so many threads and many of them are sooooo long. :p But I got it working by just reading the rest of the thread and seeing what issues others had. One guy was in my exact same boat, new touch pro, new SSK rom, first time GPS enable. I also had to go by a window and it started working so I probably had it working earlier and just didn't know it because of my house.

Yeah, ill ask Steve Crowler himself. Afterall, i did donate some money. :D

I like mine, it does have some quirks just like any windows mobile phone, but after putting a custom rom on it works really well. I have tons of little apps, games, and garmin mobile XT on here. The GPS has saved me plenty of times and the software works pretty much just like a Garmin unit.

It does occasionally lock up, but overall it's a great phone...best smartphone I've used by far.

Don't ever drop it though, it's pretty fragile. I dropped mine once and totally screwed it up...it looks like shit now but still works fine since I had a screen protector on.

I love mine. Everything I want out of a phone. The TouchFLO is very useful as soon as you get use it everything is easy to get to. I also wouldnt recommend it as a mp3 player although its doable. You wont be disappointed with it.

posting from my pro right now. So far so good custom rom makes the pro godlike compared to the dumb stock rom

I've been using mine for a few weeks now and i love it. I'm using MightyRom 4.10. Also iGo8 is a very nice gps program (TTS, etc).

I was disappointed with the MP3 offerings for winmo until I tried Kinoma. There's a free version that includes some annoying adds and the free verion doesn't play all file types. The interface was spot on tho so I did one of their trial pay offers and bought a domain at godaddy for $8 rather than pay the $30 they're asking for it.

im trying to get this phone i have an upgrade coming up soon i just hope verizon gets the fuze version before then it would make it so much nicer

Kinoma is great. It's what I use to play mp3s since the interface is very finger friendly.

The only problem with Kinoma is that it defaults most file types like photos and movies to it without giving the user an option when it installs. You can switch everything back with an app like Total Commander, but it's still annoying.

I tried Scott's ROM for awhile and it was nice, then I decided to give some others a shot. I have to say Mighty's ROM is pretty sweet and it appears to be faster as well. I manually set the page pool to 12 before I flashed it since I have the VZW phone, and it's running like a dream. I like the stuff he includes by default as well, more stuff then Scott's ROM. He also has an easily installed calendar/call history/comm manager addition to the touchflo tabs that are very handy as well as several easily installed themes.

I'll use it for awhile and then maybe go back to Scott's to compare. I love having the ability to do this. :D

I tried the newest KK rom yesterday and that includes TONS of apps/games/etc but I ended up going back to MightyROM. It's faster which makes the whole experience so much better. KK's rom is great to get an idea of what's available tho.

also:

Action screen
(replaces the superfluous phone soft button on the home screen, scroll down for a Touch Pro logo'd version)
SRS wow HD
Diamond TF3D Config(reorder and remove touchflo tabs)
S2U2 (Slide 2 Unlock 2) or S2u2 Touch Pro Edition
Mobile Manager for Netflix
FingerMenu (is awesome)
SmileySMS
and some other stuff that I'm forgetting.

ALSO, regional providers are just.. $83/month, taxes included, for two phones unlimited calls, texts, mms and web? I've been using these guys for years and it's going to take ALOT to get me to switch.

You can just change the soft keys with diamond tf3d cant you? And last Tuesday I turned my phone into a wireless router for my friends laptop when we weren't near a wireless signal. Damn that's handy. :D

Well, it replaces the soft button with one that brings up a 9 button page with shortcuts to enable/disable wifi and bluetooth as well as some to start your gps software, etc.

Oh, I know what else I wanted to mention. The Seidio Innocase is far, far superior to the rubber surfaced cases on ebay.

by the by is anyone interested in a rubber coated case from ebay? ;)

i could never trust anything from HTC the make horrible phones, its sad to say to really, considering they made the G1, and the only good thing going for that is the wonderful Google OS.

Mmm, troll bait. Who let the video card subforum people in here? If you want to make such a statement, at least back it up with some facts or reason.

back in the day when i had my side kick it was BA, no doubt. but recently HTC has just started to go in a downward pattern. maybe with the new front from Google it will be good for them and help with the problem. Ive seen many new phones released since 2008 and they all look amazing. but HTC still has a ways to go until there manufacturing catches up with the rest of the industry and you dont have to take your phone back because the slider broke.

Catch up with the rest of the industry? They tend to set the standard for anything that is released outside of Japan/Korea. So, the only fault with HTC phones would be the sliding mechanism? If you've had bad experiences with that, get one that either has a fixed keyboard or none at all? You also say that having Android on the phone will fix "problems". Microsoft is responsible for Windows Mobile, not HTC, so they're not responsible for faults in it. Hell, they improve on it with their better GUIs. By that reasoning, any Windows Mobile phone is "bad". You still haven't really given any specifics.

i don't recall i said i would use Windows mobile on a phone. thats the worst operating system to use or even have on a phone from my personal experience, and in fact i believe that's why there is anti virus for windows mobile.

...and HTC is responsible for WM how? You're still really avoiding the main point.

im saying i don't trust the craftsmanship of an HTC phone. Ive found there hardware structure is faulty and unreliable. as they may be nice and all they are not phones for the long term budget buyer. most average people look to have a phone through a contract not 6 months into one and then get the phone replaced.

Well, that's just your experience and the majority of people still regard them as a high end manufacturer with quality phones. My HTC phones have lasted me years for example. I've yet to have one break or become problematic. HTC's product have never been budget items either.

I am thinking about getting a HTC Touch Pro from Alltel. They have a great price right now and the same phone from Verison is like $200 more with a new contract.

Should I be concerned about the Alltel Verison merger in the next 6 months?
I have read that there are some area's that Verison will not be able to manage and they will stay Alltel or become AT&T or something like that? How do you find out about those areas?

Any input is appriciated! :)

For you guys who have flashed to different ROMs, do you get better battery life at all?

Having gone mostly straight to a custom ROM I can tell you "I don't know." However there are many threads on ppcgeeks.com that talk about certain tweaks to increase battery life. I haven't looked for them yet because so far I haven't had to worry the way I use mine.

The Alltel service contract is also less expensive as well. Go with Alltel if you have the option. The Alltel Touch Pro is better as well.... see posts above in this thread... The Verizon Touch Pro has less RAM and a different keyboard layout.

As far as the merger, Verizon plans to have it all switched over before too long.. the billing first.. .then the complete brand will be switched over.

There are exceptions to that, in some market areas Alltel and Verizon were the major players and the FCC said that Verizon can't own it all so Verizon is keeping Alltel as Alltel in those areas and is looking to sell that off. Luckily, I am in one of those areas and I get to be Alltel while the rest of the poor suckers have to move to Verizon.

I have not flashed mine but I have followed other threads about it. Some roms will see better battery life as there is less bloatware slowing everything down or running in the ram. The main battery killers (Blue tooth, wifi, heavy network usage, screen being on full power for long periods of time) do not really change. You can tweak these settings manually within the power options of WM to save some juice.

For me (Stock ATT rom (for now)) heavy usage kills my phone in a day or less. Medium usage is about 2 - 3 days, and very light usage is 5 - 7 days.

Did someone just call HTC phones budget? Because id hate to see what an enthusiast phone costs then...

I got mine for $250, not too bad. :p Employee discounts, Verizon new every two, it's not hard to get a discount if you poke around, bide your time, etc.

Thanks!

Anyone ever used Alltel's online store? I stopped by the Alltel B&M store tonight and found higher prices for the phone and the service and some really shitty customer service people.

I can get a much better deal on-line. More so if you figure in the rebates. I was just wondering if anyone had gone this route and had any issues and received thier rebates.

,

it even appeals to swatch enthusiast.

Its just a style change, inner hardware is the same spec.

You say Touch Pro 2 is same as Touch Pro ?

Touch Pro : 480x640 px, 2.8 in (71 mm), 65536 color LCD, 3:4 aspect ratio
Touch Pro 2 : 480x800 px (WVGA), 3.6 in (91 mm)

This alone is a big enough change. Yes, it will use same CPU, probably same version of Windows Mobile - but that 160px is a big difference.

Thanks!

Can't say I have ever used the AllTel website. I use a 3rd party mom and pop shop in our small town that is a AllTel reseller called ProCellular. Their prices match AllTel's brick and mortor prices but like you noticed, the website is considerably cheaper.

When I go in for the Touch Pro 2, I will have to weigh the pros and cons of the store vs the web. On one hand, ProCellular has been excellent in helping me solve an issue or two, so good customer service and doing my part to support a couple of jobs in our town is what I get when buying from them, oh and possession of the phone at the time of purchase... no waiting.

the Touch Pro2 will ship with 6.1, but itll come with a free upgrade to 6.5, But the Touch Pro will be upgradeable too with a new rom flash from xda. Same with my Tilt, free 6.5 :D

i am considering this phone. the palm treo pro looks nice but for my needs i think the touch pro may be the ticket!
