Well now that it's in the price point everyone wants to pay, how well will it sell? Considering that the PS3 sells better per year than the 360 how would you guys forecast the market share of the PS3 at the end of this generation?

My prediction is that the PS3 will whip the 360, and come in second of course to the Wii. Would help alot of the PS3 got more owners = more people willing to invest = more studios willing to pump out games, because as it stands now I have more damn 360 games than I have for my PS3 which I honestly didn't expect happening.

So whats your guess? ;)

I doubt it will "whip" the 360 but I can see it catching up faster, I don't know if it'll ever catch up to the 360 though, but the best it can do (IMO) is to be even with the 360.

Well, the only country the PS3 has sold more units in is Japan. Overall the Xbox 360 has sold more units than the PS3. 31.4mil for Xbox and 23.4 for PS3. I think that there will be a lot of people like myself that have been happy with the 360, but wouldnt mind getting a PS3 now. I have been saying for over a year that if they would just lower the price I would get one. I love the features that the PS3 brings to the table, but I perfer the overall gaming experience of the 360. One of the biggest down falls that I see in the future for the 360 is the dvd format that they are stuck with. They still have to cram all that code onto a 9gb dvd. I can see multi disc games coming for the 360, or maybe an install disc and a game disc.

I went into my local BB the day the priced dropped and they had already sold out of the 80gb version. I think that a lot of the new PS3 sales will consist of current 360 owners. I will be buying one on launch day.

I don't know why they dont just used double sided discs

i voted the 1st option cuz it was prob the best of them.

price point that every1 wants to pay? i think not. 3 bills is STILL too much money.

i'm one of "those" ppl that without b/c i ain't buying a ps3. pointless atm.

It'll sell slightly more (5-10m) than the 360... but then I've been predicting that since day one so what's new?

We wont really know how it's really doing after the price cut until the end of the year though. The next few months will be solid, but I think anyone expecting it to blow the doors off should probably temper their expectations.

ww probably a really close (to third) second place. In the us? Third place.

Oh, and this wont change the games situation at all. The third parties are happy to develop for the 360 / PS3 together and that'll continue.

I voted ahead of the 360 just because it will eventually take that over. It may be after Microsoft shifts to their next console though.

The Slim and price drop is going to make the PS3 a better value. It now comes down to a matter of preference.

the ps3 isnt going to gain any customers if sony doesnt pull their heads out of their asses.. it doesnt matter how much the price drops.. there arent enough game devs out there willing to deal with sony.. the primary reason the 360 has so many games is that microsoft went out of their way to create a dev kit to help create games for the 360 so that companies arent having to do all the extra work to make a specific engine for a game to play on the 360.. but as far as the 360 the biggest thing in my opinion that has kept them ahead of the ps3 is not the price nor the amount of games.. but the whole netflix portion of it..

but in the end the biggest deciding factor for me personally is the games.. the ps3 doesnt have shit on the 360 when it comes to games.. and especially the games i like, like the forza motorsports series..

PS3 isn't going to do anything unless a stream of "must-have" games comes. Until then, they could practically give the console away and it wouldn't matter.

Don't think it matters. 360 will still lead in software sales. FOr the most part Sony's AAA games have sold WAY below expectations.

I'm sure it will sell a lot more for awhile, but I'm sure a good chunk of those are manly because it's a 300 dollar top-tier blu-ray player, that will play a few games.

Microsoft's numbers are sumwhat skewed because of rebuyer's that ad a console die, I guarantee PS3 sales are skewed as well because it was bought mainly for movies.

I don't think that will move as many units as people think. I saw a Blu-Ray player at Best Buy for 120 dollars.

I was being sarcastic :p

Thats actually a problem for the PS3. If I own a 360 there is no point to getting a PS3 if the games I want come out on both systems. For example I only have 2 PS3 games. I prefer the 360 controller, so any game that comes out on both I get the 360 version. I got my PS3 to play Blu-ray movies for the most part and the couple of games that were exclusives. This was well before the cheap players became available, and in all reality if they had been out I would have never picked up the PS3 in the first place.

Yeah, I am buying the slim for a Bluray with benifits..... I will be able to play some PS3 titles like Uncharted, MGS, and a couple of others. It is going to take over the bulk of my media center duties. Hopefully I dont have as much trouble out of it like the 360.

I dont think that the 360 or the PS3 will be going anywhere anytime soon. If they are going to sink R&D into an add on like Natal and the Motion Controller they wont turn around and release a new console. This is going to be another factor in games.

If you were a video game company which motion console platform would you choose? The one that has sold more consoles?

I do the same, but my PS3 F@H 24/7 if not gaming.

I think the price drop will help move some units for Sony, but voted Same as before Third place.

Well we can only guess what is going to happen. The lack of games on the PS3 is a huge contributing factor because literally 3 months after I got my PS3 I was bored and bought a 360, and 99% of the time I spend on my PS3 is watching media. At $300 the PS3 is quite the better value compared to all the others. I am about to get the Slim so I guess those of you who say the numbers a skewed for the PS3 are pretty much correct as alot of owners like me will get a 2nd PS3.

Its got such a stream of games. If you dont think so, then you havent been keeping up.

I really don't understand how anyone can say either the 360 or the PS3 has a lack of games. I know it comes down to personal preference, but there are plenty of exclusives on both systems.

Quite True, but for the PS3 I can name only a few that are really worth having. Though next year is when it really starts to pick up, but thats next year and not now.

You realize a fan of either system could say the same thing, and that they'd be right, right?

I think they're going to start selling more, but I'm not sure they'll pass up the 360 any time soon. It appears Microsoft will be dropping the price of the Elite, but I wonder if they'll get a little more aggressive now. Who knows what they plan on doing though.

MGS4 is worth buying a PS3 for alone. Especially now at $299.

But what I did, was buy the PS3, play the games I wanted to, then I sold the PS3. I just look at it like I rented the PS3...........

And when they make Persona 5 for the PS3, I guess I'll have to "rent" one again...

lol at the wait till next year comments that is exactly what they sasid in 08 and 09 what makes you think 10 will be any better?

Wait what? Are we getting ready to floor the accelerator or what? :p

In a year the PS3 will catch up/surpass the 360 in sales. I'm not a fanboy, I own all 3 systems, but the price cut with a good amount of quality exclusives coming next year, I can easily see the PS3 catching up. I personally know a lot of people that have waited to get a PS3 until it went down to 300. Btw, I'll bump this thread in a year to prove my point :)

The PS3 Slim may consistently begin outselling X360 month to month, but there is no way total sales will "catch up" in a year, at least in NA aka xbox land.

lol made my day. But in all seriousness, who is looking forward to Uncharted 2?

Every PS3 owner seems to drool over this franchise, but all I got out of it was Tomb Raider lite with a clone of GeoW's combat, only somehow less fun. I thought Uncharted 2 was going to improve on this, but it looks to be more of the same.

For me, October on the PS3 is all about Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Demon's Souls and Ratchet & Clank Future 3.

^^I dunno what you two are talking about. This whole planet is easily fooled into fads :p

fixed

TBH I couldn't give a shit, just give me games I wanna play. However all I'm seeing all over the 'net is 360 owners now saying 'the price is right.....now I've gotta decide wether I got phat or slim'. Obviously this is gonna swell numbers.

On the bigger picture no-one can guess who will come second as you don't know what MS are gonna do with the 360 when the next xbox is released. If they drop it like a tonne of bricks ala xbox1 then the PS3 will go sailing by as it takes the PS2's current place as bargain basement console.
