Far Cry 5

The problem with the newer FarCry games is that they play like the shit Bethesda puts out. No thanks. I don't like how you interact with objects. Picking them up with invisible hands bothers me in this day and age. The RPG style components of those games don't feel particularly well executed to me and plot wise, the games are nothing like the original.

Doomsday Prepper, in bright orange. Yeah, I can totally see a red neck militia type wearing that. Looks more like an outfit a thug in Chicago would wear. I'm not even annoyed by the pre-order aspect, just how low the game industry has started to shove lots of crappy content into the game. Did they even think that through? I blame Activision and Valve for the lame fugly cosmetic trend. Put some effort into it.

I like the setting small town not sold on the gameplay but it might be immersive enough to forget about it.
Check out 11:05 just kick the npcs :p

For me the by far biggest factor of the 5th Far Cry is that finally the environment feels pretty realistic, that was a big letdown for me in Far Cry 4 that bugged me a lot. For me this game has made such a huge leap forward in the map/environmental design, it really shows they have been in Montana IRL to take pics etc to get the right feel of the place. I like how varied it is with very dense forest kinda areas, mountains, lakes and good mix of open fields vs forest environment.

While it won't matter so much with the vanilla take 50 bullets to the chest mechanics, once hardcore mods are out, the environmental impact as in how to approach various missions will become more noticeable.

is there any word on this being like outlands which forced that ai buddy crap?

I dunno, is this going to introduce any new gameplay elements to the series, or is it going to be a reskinned FC4? To where you capture towers to see landmarks then capture landmarks to conquer areas. Featuring new vehicles and animals and buildings. Tied together with a different supporting characters and cutscenes. I mean its all fine on one level but not appealing on other levels.

More or less. I remember watching the entire event unfold in school the day the place was burned to the ground. Happened just down the road.

I guess after this airs, they'll have to do Oklahoma City & Ruby Ridge too. :meh:

why does the 4K config require Windows 10 64-bit while the 1080p one supports Windows 7, 8 and 10?

maybe due to superior UI scaling or better drivers on windows 10? anyways, those are really just recommended setups and doesn't mean 4K on win7 won't work

Says 64-bit versionS

I wasn't referring to the 64-bit aspect...why does the 4K version require Windows 10 while the 1080p and under version supports Windows 7, 8 and 10?...higher resolution shouldn't require a different OS

I don't see why it wouldn't work. They're probably getting some advert money from Microsoft...

[Edit]
Wait a sec...don't the latest processors require Win10, because of some artificial requirement implemented by Microsoft?

PCGamer hands-on impressions...

Montana looks nice enough—the forest areas are particularly beautiful, and full of warring animals...however, as a play space I found it to be the least exciting of any Far Cry game since the very first game...the area shown off in both of the hands-on sessions I played is wide open and flat...expect to be driving trucks around a lot of featureless farmland and navigating some gentle forested hills

Perhaps I've been spoiled by Kyrat and Far Cry Primal...I'm into the idea of a game set in contemporary America in a county beset by doomsday cults...I find that fascinating, but as a someone coming into the place cold, it strikes me as quite a bland, relatively unexciting game world to explore

In this limited demo at least there were no mountainsides to recklessly wingsuit off...apart from one particularly hairy mission set on a sky-high broadcasting mast, there was no great vertical variation or sense of spectacle...I rarely felt the need to reach for the screenshot key...as I was moving through quests and unlocking new mission givers, I didn't feel like I was progressing much because the landscape was so similar...

I hope it doesn't turn out like the middle of GTA San Andreas (the phase of the game between Los Santos and San Fierro...almost too sparse and vast, with overly long and boring travel between POI's.

Thankfully, we should see the Fast Travel feature retained for this iteration of the Far Cry series.

ever since they announced the Montana setting I was concerned...you can only do so much as far as the geography...the state is too flat...not many opportunities to really show a diverse landscape- especially compared to the previous FC settings...or maybe they are emphasizing the doomsday cult storyline aspect over the setting this time...more story driven

Besides the setting, stellar looking graphics and huge sandbox aspect, I'm probably most excited about being able to play co-op beginning to end. Far Cry 4's co-op was only for certain parts of the game.

Yeah FC4's "co-op" was pretty weak; the DLC (Yeti) was fully co-op however.

If the specifications are real then my rig in sig should play FC5 just fine on medium settings which will make me very happy as long as the gameplay is good.

To me, Far Cry 3 and 4 might as well have been the same game. They were good/fun, but just way too similar. 4 was like a big DLC pack. This one feels closer to a real sequel.
Montana's probably a bland choice for a setting, but it IS probably the most feasible story-wise. It IS mostly empty after all. One of the southwestern states (or Appalachian states) could have also worked and would likely have more varied terrain. The knock is that you'd have to suspend your disbelief a little more.
