Far Cry 5

I didn't like how the guns felt in FC3. Did they get better in 4? I know 3 had a bunch of mods which were supposed to address it, but I never made it far enough to bother trying them.

From what I remember it was about the same.

Too similar - that was much of the criticism. People (rightly) felt like the game used too many assets from FC3.

(Asset re-use is to a point, acceptable, but gun models were just reskinned. That's not to say that FC4 didn't introduce new things - Guns for Hire and co-op were pretty interesting highlights and new. But most of the game felt oddly too familiar. Perhaps it stuck too closely to the FC3 formula. The Yeti DLC actually was very different.)

I admire their willingness to take the Far Cry formula to new and unique settings but something about this just doesn't do it for me...not as bad as that Far Cry Primal setting but also doesn't look as good as Far Cry 1-3...I'll probably wait for a price drop to ~$30

I get the same feeling.

Far Cry 3, 4, and Primal all felt... a bit of the same. You can tell it's the same engine (which did get a nice bump from FC3 to FC4), same assets, and same core gameplay. There were some... experiments (and some of them were definitely worth experiencing, off the top of my head FC4 had the Yeti DLC, Primal really went all-in on the "beast companion" that was introduced in FC4, and let's not forget Blood Dragon) but it's a very tired formula.

The one thing the wifey and I will be looking for is the full co-op, it sucked in FC4, really (and the Yeti DLC's difficulty was way too high for her). Will it be a day-1 for us? Eh... I have a hard time justifying it with what I'm seeing (which, forgive me, doesn't seem all that new from the E3 stuff?).

Just finished Far Cry Primal, it's not bad and while I enjoyed it. I'm glad I picked it up on the Steam for $24. Definitely not worth the original $60 and it was pretty short compared to most Far Cry games. I did enjoy having a beast companion

I'll most likely pick this up on sale.

the Far Cry series is starting to feel like the Assassin's Creed one...same gameplay in a different setting with a few minor gameplay tweaks

That video didn't look all that great to me. First the reload animations looks pretty bad, CoD bad. It was so bad it stood out. Second, the plane looks like it can be fun for a mission or two, but after that it looks like it would be grating to fly. I can't imagine flying that thing, then stopping because you saw something you need to pick up, then run back, get it flying again, rinse repeat. I know more of the map is yet to be seen, but that terrian looks boring to me. And those cheesy scripted voice overs are annoying.

For the next game I hope they change it up a lot more.

This is the closest thing to Redneck Rampage you will find except with realistic graphics

Dynamite check

Silo check

Redneck Oath Keepers check

same gameplay in a different setting with a few minor gameplay tweaks
True with almost all bigger franchises... of course more than a few minor tweaks is needed to satisfied some of us, but they'll probably never risk going too far in one direction and upsetting cry-baby shareholders...

I tried the second game and reached the same conclusion.

I thought FC2 was vastly under-rated...they really changed things up drastically from the first game...even the barren African setting was a 'far cry' from the tropical jungles of the first...

I'm looking forward to this game a lot.

I'm really hoping they enhance the coop this time around... FC4 was rather lacking. They need to have a consistent/fluent/ immersive coop experience this time around. This is a much needed experience to really stand out in the series.
I hope they do it right

The map editor itself is worth the $60 to me. Having the ability to mess with create your own unique landscape, and make detailed maps(down to every piece of debris) is by far my favorite thing in the series and now this game will have it too. No other fps game offers as much depth in their in game map builder than what Farcry 4 had.
Doom + Fallout 4s building tool together still doesn't even add up to a fraction of what FC4s map builder had.

I can only imagine it's even better this time around. Totally pumped!

Good looking...essentially more of the same... I'll get what I want out of it. Should be fun.

Much like most other franchises that make it past sequel #3, I don't expect anything that deviates that much. At a certain point I just hope for better graphics, polish, and some new mechanics. Well, that and I'd like the deja vu factor to be kept in check. Far Cry 3 and 4 might as well have been the same game so I'll hope for more differentiation than those two.

I usually build a new PC before finishing all of the games on my "old" PC. However, I typically "rotate" my game PC to the bedroom & my bedroom PC to the home office so my saved games usually still exist, but they are on PC's that I rarely game on after building a new gaming PC (monitors also descend in size from GAME / RACE PC @ 47" to bedroom @ 37" to home office @ 24" ~ all of them are 1080).

ie: I built a new PC for my "game room" (dining room w/ G27 & playseat) & also bought FC4
~ I played FC4 obsessively until I finished it mostly because NAV was so much better than FC3 & PRIMAL

When I saw FC5 coming, I decided to go back to my old rig & FINALLY finishED FC3 (still working on Blood Dragon & PRIMAL).

While the main missions for FC3 were about as good as FC4 - the interface & maps & nav were all weaker than FC4 to me.

Anyhoo... just my $2 on the subject of incremental improvements from FC3 < Primal < FC4

I will likely pick it up on a sale...I liked FC3 and FC4 though they did feel really similar and got kind of tedious.

Looks like a Wildlands FPS no problem with that but you keep making realistic looking games it's going to get boring. I couldn't even get though Far Cry 4 just lost interest.

What, you don't think Montana is an exotic enough location to keep your interest? :)

I'll give it a spin and I like that they're willing to try new stuff, but I can't imagine Montana offering much variety in scenary.

I'm more interested in playing this than 4 & Primal. I loved 1 & 3, but skipped 2 due to certain gameplay mechanics. I tried playing 4 but the story came off as really cheesy & the enemy AI was way too accurate on hard (much like it was on 1!). I've skipped Primal since it just seems more of the same as 4.

Montana could get real interesting if they throw in a enough story elements to keep things surprising. I'd get a kick if they even implement stuff like Bigfoot, Ghosts, & other crazy stuff just to make you think the protagonist is insane or sees "things" (similar to 3).

This would be awesome, and should be expected too. I believe the Yeti DLC for FC 4 was similar right? I didn't play it, but it's almost a given that they're going to throw something like that in there. Hopefully not a DLC though, just part of the base game.

From what I've seen i'm not impressed with the environments compared to 4 as they just seem really flat and boring, wildlife is obviously going to be a step down as well. I think i'll skip this one.

I tried playing 4 but didn't get far enough to consider buying the Yeti DLC. After my experience, I might want to play that part of the game only but there's no way around that sadly.

I just recently got Far Cry 3. I haven't delved into it yet, but will soon. One of the few good things about having really old hardware is that I can get old AAA-titles on the cheap. Just because a game is 10 years old doesn't mean that it can't be enjoyable today. You can shoehorn CGI into anything, but a turd is a turd.

No Shit! I'd love to have a much more modern rig.
But it is what it is.

I'm off to zombie killin' in L4D.

You MUST play the FC3 co-op !!!! I had no idea that it even existed until I finished the main missions & started looking for a reason not to uninstall - like should I go back & find side missions (are they in there like Wildlands has?) or find artifacts / special stuff - and then I saw co-op & played it for a few hours for 3 days in a row w/ various people until we got through it all & it was excellent! Probably 3-6 hours of really good gameplay (every game I joined was set to HARD, so it took some time).

Still haven't uninstalled & think I need to keep it installed until I finish the Blood Dragon add-on.

How could I forget?! Blood Dragon is the best of them all! I think I may have to play that again eventually.

Partly because FarCry 1 was made by Crytek before Ubi took over :)
