Fallout 4

New to RPGs? Sounds like you need to hang back and complete some side quests to build up your character. Or maybe you need to change up whatever tactics you're using.
No I have played plenty of them including the other Fallout games. Again I every thing I attempt to do in the last 2 hours results in death after death no matter if side quest or not. I am on level 14 I believe and again the game is only getting harder for me. I have nearly lost interest in the game at this point.

If you read [H]ardOCP's review of the game's IQ, they talked specifically about this issue. Setting Godrays to Ultra resolves this issue, though it can come at a pretty substantial hit in performance. Personally, I turned it off and if I sit still and LOOK for it, I notice it, otherwise when I'm playing the game, I don't see it.

I saw a brief mention of dithering in the [H] review, though I'm not really sure that's what it is. Either way, it looks terrible.

To everyone posting screenshots, unless it's specifically graphically related, resize your images in paint or something to a size a little more easily digestible. We don't need a 1440 or even 1080 screen grab of you lopping off a guys face...that can be conveyed at 800x600 just as easily.

Maybe don't use a monitor from 2005? :p

In all seriousness, resizing the image would make it hard to see the pixellation issue, but I can go ahead and just link the image instead of posting in-line.

Lower the difficulty?

What do you guys think, 1080p + God Rays ... or ... DSR + No god rays?
1080 with god rays. The game has some irritating stutter when panning around in full screen that borderless window fixes so that means only 1080 max on a native 1080 screen. And at 1080 the game looks great with TAA as I see no noticeable crawling at all so I see no need for DSR anyway.

I play with iPresentInterval=0, and I get weird stutter in marshes and places that I guess are "intensive"

I try iPresentInterval=1, and I get horrible input lag and low framerate.

Just can't win with this game. :(

I am manually capping FPS at 58 in the nVidia driver, BTW.

No, I didn't mean you. I think it your case, having the full res makes it easier to see what your talking about. I just mean other posts where it's a full res screenshot of some action or weird thing not graphically related.

and I use a 40" TV as my monitor so :p

maybe Fallout games aint for you. :D

I'm only playing on Hard and it is pretty difficult...more so than FO3 I would say. Encountered some mirelurks and they basically two-shotted me. Ghouls only take a few hits to kill me.

I'm nearly level 40 and the last weapon I upgraded was around level 15-20, all of my weapons do about 20-30 base damage. Can't find an upgrade to save my life.
It takes a full clip to kill a single enemy on Normal difficulty. If I find one more legendary melee weapon I'm going to beat Mama Murphy to death with it. This fucking game.

Does anyone have a problem with absurdly long load times? The time when load my save initially takes minutes. Quick traveling is not exactly fast either but it is tolerable. Hell it takes ages for the loading screen to pop up the model which you can rotate too. Sometimes it only appears just before the game finishes loading and the game starts/continues. I do not have SSD (yeah yeah, I'm ancient...) but these kind of load times are ridiculous.

Game runs fine otherwise. 3 CTD's within 20 hours so far which is a good result for new Beth game.

All of my load screens are maybe 5 to 10 seconds long. Going in and out of buildings slightly faster. It's about the same as Skyrim, if I had to guess.

Just had my first crash about an hour ago. Game was still playing in the background but the image on my primary monitor froze. :( Hard reset required...

I feel your pain.

Aren't over-level (Skull icon) Legendary enemies (or just plain over-level enemies) supposed to give you a lot more XP? Because I feel like I wasted my time exploring harder areas and fighting tougher enemies.

Yeah Skyrim is what I use for reference too. It loads blazingly fast these days. There is definetly something that is braking the loading speed. Dunno if its something in my system or just buggy game.

i keep thinking the skull enemies are ones I cant hurt because I suck?

i feel the load times are pretty long but I haven't measured them. game is not installed on an SSD for me either.

Craft them.

My in game load times are low single digit seconds(3-5 would be my guess). My initial load is more like 8-10 seconds. Everything is on ssds for me.

Skull enemies are bosses. You should be able to kill them.
I don't think there is such a thing as "over-level" since the game scales to your level.

edit: Unrelated ... Color beams!

Okay I've only played an hour or two, but I crafted some wooden walls at the first area. How the heck do I put them up?

Somebody will fix the god rays with a mod. I am waiting a month or two before playing in order to get a better first experience.

There's nothing to fix. Disable them (INI edit required?) or run them on whatever setting your GPU can handle.
If the setting can't be turned off via the launcher then it's just a bug with the launcher which needs to be patched.

Been playing for the last few hours and found a weapon that has definitely reduced my character dying. Meet, what I affectionately call, "Muh Baby". :p

I don't think that is true. I am level 11 and when I run into level 28 mobs near the castle, they push my shit in real good. Unless there is a source for that info, I don't think it is true. There are skull mobs and star mobs, one is boss and one is too high level for you.

Scoped 44 Mag has always been a favorite of mine in this game.

Minor quibble: A lot of these guns including that one sound kinda wimpy. I'm looking forward to the audio mods.

I've been surfing Nexus Mods since Day One...there's already a few gun sound mods out.

Hopefully someone ports the M41A Pulse Rifle mod from FO3 and FONV soon. I liked that gun. Also not a fan of the armors much, yea they are wasteland-y and fit in...but kinda meh.

i hope someone makes a mod to be able to kill kids. There was a kid in vault 81 I REALLY wanted to stab with a bayonet while he was sleeping.

Not yet really (only level 7 I think?), been focusing on gun mods and upgrading weapons and armor, but even that doesn't seem to be enough.

im lvl 43 on survival, with 1 endurance no defense perks and seem to do alright, the key tho is to not get hit in the first place.

Current perks:

L01: Cap Collector Rank 2, Gunslinger Rank 5
L02: No Perks
L03: Armorer Rank 4, Gun Nut Rank 4, Sneak Rank 2
L04: Locksmith Rank 3, Hacker Rank 3, Mr. Sandman Rank 3
L05: Idiot Savant Rank 2
L06: Night Person Rank 1, Local Leader Rank 2, Better Criticals Rank 1
L07: Ninja Rank 3
L08: No Perks
L09: No Perks
L10: Gun-Fu Rank 3

I believe i have the Luck, Perception, Charisma, Agility bobbles so far, and my base stats are currently:

Str 3
Per 7
Cha 6
Int 4
Agi 10
Luck 7

Early on it was a little rough but after a frew gunslinger perks and modding my armor to have the shadow coating and muffles boots to make stealth easier in dark places i am at the point where i can VATs head shot clean out a room with 1 bullet for each mob i target, with silenced weapons. It is quite fun.

I use the Combat Armor for the most part as i like its even protection ratings and it has the shadow coating mods.
