Fallout 4

the highlight only works on items/containers that contain craftable materials that you need. Not guns or other type goodies or bodies. you can make it work for stem packs and so forth if you drop everything you have and go to an empty base and try to craft items that use them. So you still gotta look, just not as hard.

I realized last night, if the starting area of this game were actually in the urban Boston areas instead of the wasteland woods, there would be A LOT more complaining about performance. Possibly Arkham Knight-tier complaints.

I'm seeing as low as 25fps in pretty much the whole area around Back Bay (center-east side of the map). According to the internet I need to use Medium shadows to solve it, which look like complete ass. I wonder what Bethesda did to Skyrim's shadows to ruin performance so much.

One thing I'm finding to be a bit of a bummer (though admittedly realistic, but eh) is that when you store junk in a workbench it doesn't carry over to any other workbenches. So basically you are forced to stick with one main base, which I guess was the same in Skyrim but I kind of wish they would bend reality a bit and allow you to have some sort of global stash.

Only level 4 (haven't gotten a chance to play since Wednesday for like an hour) but man, I can already see how much there is to do in this game, it's crazy.

Also, use ReShade and the sharpening filter...makes TAA look really good.

that is intentional. there is a charisma perk that allows you to establish supply lines between bases

i broke down today and bought the big hard cover survival guide. the giant poster map is quite nice to have.

If you don't have the Local Leader perk you are effectively confined to one base. They have locked an entire game mechanic behind Charisma 6. It's retarded.
It's a shame really because the Charisma tree kinda sucks. You need to waste 5 SPECIAL + 1 Perk point in the Charisma tree to take advantage of settlements.

Local Leader shouldn't exist and instead should have just been part of the game inherently. Or it should be the C1 or C2 perk at most. I don't think many people will realize how necessary the perk is when designing their character, and by the time they figure it out they won't want to invest into Charisma just to unlock it.

If it bugs you that much juse use console to give yourself 6 charisma and act like it was always part of the game

VSync turned-on. Framerate has never gone above 60fps.

I ran a test limiting fps to 58 and the glitch still happened.

This is a higher than 60fps problem.
To stop it, limit your max fps to 58.

I had the same problem getting stuck at a terminal (not in the same way as you).
I used MSI Afterburners StatisticsServer to limit to 58, it hasnt happened since.

Having higher charisma unlocks extra dialog options.
I think the better choice is to give yourself the perk itself, while keeping your original Charisma value. Not sure that's possible though.

Just unlocked Covenant, what a sweet base that is.

Is that the

Ghoul settlement?

The second tier of the scrapper perk is awesome. it highlights all the items containing your desired components. so you just go somewhere lacking components and set everything missing as a favorite. Then you can zip through shit like the supermakets

Doesn't help me a bit, as I compulsively loot everything. I think I need scrapper 2 though anyway for the rare components it gives.

Hey guys,

Quick question: Now that you've all played it for a while; do you think it's worth getting the game now or wait until the first (major) patch? I've been trying to contain my FLAMING DESIRE but... eh... hard.

Get it. Now.

Also did some of you know you could do this? I just found out last night.

You can put hats on Codsworth lol. All you have to do is trade with him, give him a hat (helmets don't work, just hats) and then when it's in his inventory highlight it and you can "equip" it on him and he'll wear it.

I did not know that, and will be having fun with it soon.

My impression of Melee-only or melee-focused builds is it's making the game harder for yourself to the point of needlessly; especially tough when you're swarmed by a group with guns and you get gangbanged because you can't kill them fast enough. But I'm sure there are ways to make it work with some creativity, like combining with sneak, etc.

Definitely a fan of Survivalist difficulty though. Feels just right, and you get max chance at running into legendary enemies.

i'm playing melee only...get resist perks / modified armors and stimpak healing perk
i'm running around with like 160 damage resist + 170 energy resist
use med-x / psycho on top of that
Swan was doing like 5~10% of hp per swing to my character
mutants/raider don't do much damage unless it's nuke ( including suicide)
bigger threats are ghouls with massive radiation for which i just wear hazard suits and block :p

p.s don't say power suits because that's for pussy

Yup. My gpu usage plummets in any of the major urban areas (Diamond city,Boston,Lexington, etc) and causes sever fps dips. Outside of the metro areas I am smooth as butter at a locked 72fps.

Beth needs to patch this, and I hope the really do, because this is the only issue I am having so far (after doing the ini tweaks, etc).

It's Skyrim but with guns. It's good game, the wastelands and all the post apocalypse setting is okay, but it's missing something, to make it real Fallout game. There is no time/ water issue that made you really chase the objectives, the distance between location is too small - nothing like calculating if you have enough power cells to make the destination in your car in F2...

But most of all it lost its rpg charm. It's just "go to x, kill y" - no chance to use charisma bonus on the boss of raiders to convince him to stop, you just need to shoot things. There was just one quest, where my high charisma saved me from fighting the boss. There is no witty dialogues from first two games, no mystery meetings, all the sense of humour like meeting Knights of round table or that mysterious bridge keeper is gone. Even quests are not funny - like the one with Lenny the ghoul who was presented as mummy. Or what happened to the village, when you used dynamite under a certain well. Even reactions of quest giver were different in Vault City, when you entered there in vault suit and not dressed as savage.

It's rpg castrated from options, solutions, dialogues. Sulik's Grampy Bone would say that we are going in bad direction. And yes, started today F2 and despite its very outdated graphics I'm having much more fun than in F4.

I wish Obsidian or Larian would buy Fallout license from Bethesda.

Sounds fun as hell. Do you not use guns at all? When did you switch over to melee-only? I think it's about time to try out a new character.

Guys im stuck in my Body Armor, how the hell do I get out?

Hold 'E' on PC.

I like the random encounters. Too many times I've been going some place only to be drawn off somewhere else by gun fire or nukes going off.

Was up on top of a build maybe 7 stories high and saw a UFO crash. Of course it went down no where near where I was.

.

Like 6 hrs in, i said fuck it and loaded up save from vault and started over
Charging in is a lot more fun than fleeing
Yea full melee i just collect unique wpn and sell all bullets for cap

So, just sold a CS GO knife skin and got the game for $15.

Is this the type of game I will wanna play with a 360 controller or mouse and keyboard?

I've played Fallout 3, just curious what the consensus is.

Yeah...so once you have that perk and have multiple bases, are the Workbench inventories shared? That's really what I was referring to.

Also, graphically...why are the textures so random in terms of quality? The guns look great, the characters for the most part look really good...then you get stuff like this:

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/650003524246374113/3B65CDAF71BA211ADE99AA862661894164BE92B7/

Why are some of them so bad? I really hope they release some sort of HD texture pack ala Skyrim.

Yes at rank 1 you can assign a settler to create a supply line with another settlement. Eventually you can connect all your settlements together like a web and your resources will be available everywhere.

I have around 10 settlements populated now (15+ people in each) and I'm getting Defense missions every 30 minutes or so. It's kind of ridiculous. I have 70+ Defense in each base. At this point more than half of my gameplay hours are defending/repairing settlements.

LOL

I killed a giant deathclaw thing in the mayor's bunker and it was carrying a basketball

Are you playing on Survival difficulty? I kind of want to make a melee character but I don't see how melee can survive when running into three super mutants and a mutant dog on Survival.

Is that ammo scrounger talent worth it at all? I'm only level 15 and not really hurting on ammo too much, but I've had to dip into my caps a couple times to get a couple guns back up to comfort level.

Im playing on very hard
Survival is dumb

i also found the 2nd to hardest (very hard) to be the best. Hard enough that legendaries are more common but not to the point of being annoying. Survival becomes tedious shooting at one enemy like 30 times to kill it unless you gear everything and put all the perks toward damage and miss out on other aspects of the game.

low to high god rays doesn't show that much difference but ultra god rays is noticeably better. I ended up sacrificing shadows over god ray and kept god rays at ultra. still getting mostly 60 fps with some dips to 50s. So if you can handle ultra god rays keep it at ultra or if you can't just go with low and up everything else.

or if your using a xbox controller like most people A

Also power armor lets you have a shooting based build with 12 STR so shoot and then whip out a sword and go to town... wading through a pack of gouls is alot easier with a sword in power armor then shooting them unless your using a shot gun then chunky salsa...

it is on you tube and find it follow the blood to get the alien blaster...

Well I just posted about that in the other F4 thread as I was wondering if its the TAA or god rays.

http://postimg.org/image/qwebbhjt7/full/

Yeah...it's the god rays. Anything below Ultra makes them look like garbage for me, so I hope they patch it to either make Ultra not have a 40% performance hit, or fix the way it looks on lower quality settings. From what I can tell there is no difference between Low and High...pixellation is the same.

I am playing on very easy but for some reason the game keeps getting harder and harder for the last couple or so hours. I died only time in the first 12 or so hours and that was from back to back mines one of which the dumb dog triggered. Now though I keep getting killed over and over no matter where I go or what I do.

New to RPGs? Sounds like you need to hang back and complete some side quests to build up your character. Or maybe you need to change up whatever tactics you're using.

Anyone else seeing these pixellated edges around god rays? It happens for me on everything between Low and High (haven't tried Ultra due to the performance)

HUGE ASS INLINE IMAGE

If you read [H]ardOCP's review of the game's IQ, they talked specifically about this issue. Setting Godrays to Ultra resolves this issue, though it can come at a pretty substantial hit in performance. Personally, I turned it off and if I sit still and LOOK for it, I notice it, otherwise when I'm playing the game, I don't see it.

To everyone posting screenshots, unless it's specifically graphically related, resize your images in paint or something to a size a little more easily digestible. We don't need a 1440 or even 1080 screen grab of you lopping off a guys face...that can be conveyed at 800x600 just as easily.

Well....it took me 36 hours, but I finally decided to move forward and enter Diamond City for the first time. Good lord there's a lot of people in there...NOT trying to kill me...it's refreshing, lol.

Here's a map I stitched together from screen grabs...its not pretty but it gets the idea across....as the song says, I'm a wanderer....not so much of a quester though, lol.
