Dragon Age 3: Inquisition Announced

So....the ESRB rating and details came out and it contains some hilarious "quotes" from the game:

"Rating Summary: This is a role-playing game in which players assume the role of a warrior battling evil forces in different dimensions. Characters use swords, axes, hammers, and magic attacks to kill fantastical creatures (e.g., demons, monsters, dwarfs) and humans in melee-style combat. Cutscenes sometimes depict characters impaled or getting their throats slit. Violent sequences are often highlighted by cries of pain, gurgling/gushing sounds, and large blood-splatter effects; blood remains on the ground in several environments. The game includes some sexual material: a female character briefly depicted in front of a man's torso (fellatio is implied); characters depicted topless or with exposed buttocks while lying in bed or after sex; some dialogue referencing sex/sexuality (e.g., “'I will bring myself sexual pleasure later, while thinking about this with great respect'” and “The way your t*ts bounce when I pin your arms and take you on the side of the bed…”). The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “a*shole” appear in dialogue."

Uhh.... Classy. Not.

A ton of new videos released today from various game journalist/youtubers that got to go play it for a bit:

http://forum.bioware.com/topic/5174...ay-video-interview-mega-thread-updated-nov-3/

Also if you don't know yet the Keep has been released for a few days:
https://dragonagekeep.com

The Keep is a way to set up the world state for DA:I, basically since they no longer support using saves (way too many complications/problems with it) they made this so that you can go through the story of all the previous DA games (including all the dlc/expansions) and build up the world like you want it before going into DA:I.

It also has a nice video/audio ostoryline once you do this that you can play (narrated by Varric) that basically tells the story of all the games and choices you make to refresh you and get you caught up on all the backstory if you want.

The review embargo for the game is going to be Nov. 11th, so a week before the game is released we'll get reviews, which usually means the publisher has a lot of confidence in the game to do well

Also they recently revealed the EA early access details for the game. If you are an EA early access member you can download the (full) game on Nov. 13th and you have 6 hours of playtime with it, you can play single player or multiplayer, however you want to spend those 6 hours (then you have to wait for the full game). Your saves and everything carry over when the game is released if you buy it on xbox one, you can continue where you leave off.

I'm seriously debating getting it (just 5 bucks) to play some mulitplayer, don't really want to play single player since I'm getting the game on the pc and the saves do NOT carry between platforms, so it only carries over if you get the game on xbox one.

Just 15 more days until release, can't wait.

Bioware should of made a Dragon age Dark souls syle game that would go over well catch and fetch quests in single player don't go over very well of late.

I'm expecting the game to be much close in quality to the first game and it looks like BioWare feels the same judging by how they are letting review sites get their hands on the game early

I think this game is really important for them to reclaim some fans. Hell, DA2 did so poorly they didn't even release the planned DLC for it!

I was messing with it. It will import your saves and achievements if you let it. I tried but it didnt list half my saves and seemed to have the wrong settings for the ones I did import as it listed choices that I know I never made.

I'll mess with it some more later on and see if I can figure out whats going on with it, but it wouldnt surprise me if there's a few bugs atm with how many flags there must be for all the plot possibilities.

Yeah it found my characters but the data was completely wrong for the saves, so I had to go through each choice and make all the selections again (And read up on plenty that I had forgotten lol).

Also some choices might "conflict" at first but it's because you have a third choice you must change (like the OGB with Morrigan).

Well they've still got "BETA" stamped on it so I'm sure they're working out bugs.

I went through and just did a generic hero with all the selections that I remember making. Took some time but at least if I cant get it to read my proper hero files then the game will start out with the world as it should be I guess.

I really, really hope this game will be as good as DA1. Some good memories from that.

Dragon Age Inquisition: the first five hours

Five hours is barely enough time to wet your blade, whet your appetite or get a real sense of mastery on the multitude of systems Dragon Age: Inquisition is packing, but it was at least enough time to determine that, despite some unoriginal side quests, its wide open spaces are filled with plenty to see and do...

I have to say, I'm feeling better and better about this as time goes on and more and more information/gameplay is released. Granted, nothing can compare to actual first-hand experience from a large body of actual gamers, but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.

Agreed.

Probably will still not be a day one purchase, I'm still a little skeptical after DA 2.

I really am looking forward to this. I know I'm in the minority here (at least as far as [H] goes), but I really preferred Dragon Age on consoles with a controller. I was all set to get this on PS4, then they announced that PC would have full controller support. That made it pretty much an instant pre-order. Also, I got a decent pre-order deal ($42 I think). I never finished DA2, but I put probably near 200 hours into DA1.

Where did you manage to pre-order for $42? I would definitely hop on a pre-order if I could get a deal like that.

check out /r for that. people are buying it through Mexico Origin. I think that's the $42 one. GMG has it for $47.

Based on everything I've seen and read, the staff seems to full acknowledge that DA2 was a total clusterfuck and they're doing everything in their power to make this game appeal to fans of the original.
It might not live up to that one but (unless the PC version has technical issues) it will almost assuredly blow the 2nd game away.

Great to hear! Loved the first one enough to playthrough thrice.

I didn't make it past the first two hours on the second one.

The fact that there are no healers and according to them you can get through the hardest fights with only a few health potions has me thinking the game will be overly ez

Unless it's defensive spells, traps, stuns, etc? I think there is a way to do it without healing and still have it be hard; really, requiring the healer is almost a lazy way to do it and can reduce the party diversity.

The fact that I won't have to run a healer is a breath of fresh air, honestly.

I'm sure there are plenty of ways to design/balance the game when you take into account the lack of a dedicated healer. More buffs/support type stuff, on top of individual heals/potions/whatever could make up for the lack of a healer.

Healers within an MMO environment make sense, as it can be a role that involves a lot of concentration and attention and a player can dedicate ALL of their attention to filling that role. However, trying to manage something like that in a game such as Dragon Age, on top of managing the rest of your party, can become tedious and tiring (even with macros of some sort).

I'm not going to lament the loss of a healer. I'm just hoping they designed for the lack of it, rather than compensating by bumping the difficulty down a few notches. One requires well-thought-out design, the other is pure developer laziness.

Totally agree. I hated running a healer in the higher difficulties, it wasn't fun to just pause the game constantly to get the heals out. And in general, the heal spells were kind of a PITA and didn't seem well thought out; constantly chugging mana pots, etc.

Yup. I agree. One less thing to worry about. I'm looking forward to it. Some of my friends know people who are working on this. Kinda neat having BioWare in my own backyard.

That's just poor design, not proof that healing is a bad game mechanic. But because they are making combat more real-time focused as opposed to a turn based system(or pause heavy), it does make sense to focus less on healing abilities.

In the end, those factors mean little if combat isn't fun or doesn't flow well.

IMO Dragon's Dogma was a great game that showcased how you can have a good action-rpg with classes without having to rely on healing necessarily.

Instead of focusing combat around the archaic and outdated "Dps, tank, heal" it instead focused on utility and synergy mechanics.

You'd have a guy using shield and helping launch a nimble archer into the air who could climb onto beasts and move around quickly, you have mages that laid down aoe spells and other mixes between the different classes and builds with synergies between them.

The different classes didn't feel like you were playing just one big "homogenized" group of classes, each felt distinct and different from one another while still being very action focused.

The game still had heals, don't get me wrong (mages could have it) but it was entirely possible to play the game without a healer and be fine.

Two major things today, first off they are streaming the Multiplayer today, it starts at 10am PST/1PM EST (which is like 10 minutes from now).

http://www.twitch.tv/bioware

Also there's been a TON of new gameplay/impressions released today of many fans that got to go to EA an dplay the game, lots of youtubers and people that have been really active in the community (like Lady Ashe and GamerMD, who's videos aren't up yet).

The sheer amount of content they're putting out there screams that they're proud of this game.

Angry Joes video makes the combat look boring as hell. And as i predicted, even the hardest difficulty his take is taking next to no damage in long fights. Which means it is not built around another system, its built around the enemy taking ages to kill you. At least the first 20 mins of his video is him just standing basically auto attacking enemies while the npc tanks for him taking no damage.

The first what looks like to be a boss fight is basically the same thing except his tank and all other NPCs are auto popping health potions, and people really thought the lack of a healer would add something? It absolutely hinders the gameplay depth

Who knows what kind of settings were used for these demos. For all we know, Bioware made all of the characters pretty much invincible for demonstration purposes. It doesn't make for very interesting marketing if your character dies a million times in the promo gameplay video.

Just food for thought. I'm still hopeful for this, that's for sure.

early starting zone also.
I assume once you progress it gets harder, the bioware developer got owned a few times when they played and they made the game and they had a few fights where they had to use all skills and they know the mechanics.
I also think multiplayer seems to work fine also.

What's lacking in DA2? I've only played DA:O. Did the combat get worse? Storyline is bad?

They CoD-fied it. Map was cramped, divided in small isolated places with everything running and shooting. The game had a lot of enemies popping either behind you or next to you once you enter a certain zone and trigger scripts, making formations and chokes useless.

Joe actually loses twice on the hardest difficulty in the tutorial, but it was his own fault. He didn't heal his own character or weaken the boss as often as he should have. I like playing a healer; I play cleric in DND and I've always enjoyed healing in RPGs, even if it's just an off healer. Playing a frost/heal mage in the first game really made you feel powerful and like you were a truly great support class. I don't know why people would have mana issues, I never did, but I'd much prefer having to "chug" mana potions on just one character than micromanage the health potion chugging on all characters.

The people who complain about "having" to take a healer along in the first game make me laugh because you HAVE to take a tank along, and in the first game there was just 1 real tank unless you had the DLC characters.
