i dunno... theres nothing about this that i dont like, but for some reason its just not sitting well for me. i think it might be that instead of feeling over the top naturally (like doom 2016), this is feeling a lot more like a really forced over the top.

Grappling hook = sold. ;)

Is there some kind of story element to this game? I was watching the live stream and they mentioned something about the 'doom universe' and I saw what looked like a mission control area with friendly NPCs. Is that in DOOM Eternal?

Might be the only game I buy. Nothing gets my interest anymore but this looks fun.

I had that vibe to, at least a little. My first impression was "this looks like a horde mode or something, show me the actual SP." That said, I still thought it looked epic.

They haven't said much along those lines yet, but based on the first game, and their emphasis on wanting to give this franchise "lore" and "universe", I think it's safe to say there will be more story than we are used to experiencing in any Doom game to date.

Looks pretty, armor seems a bit hefty for the motions. Like the grappling hook. I think the motion is what makes this feel "off". Its obvious the player knows everything about it so its pre scripted and that sense of him knowing everything and being ready for it / able to pull out the cool moves so perfectly with a controllers smooth movement makes it look almost pre rendered. All of the enhancements and finishing moves almost made it feel like Crysis as well lol.

I'm interested, but they have to fix the audio glitch from 2016 (keeping me from playing it still) or I wont be buying.

I hope that with as much as they had to show that it will release soonish. I have a feeling that if it doesn't release before RAGE 2 that it will be more like this time next year at the earliest so they don't compete with themselves. I hope it isn't like the reveal for the first game where we had to wait 2 years.

The only issue is they are going to try to push their Bethesda launcher bullshit. Not going to sell on Steam it looks like, so no go.

I made a promise to NEVER pre-order a game.

That promise is getting REALLY hard to keep....
C'mon!! Break it! Break it! You know you want to.... :D I still don't pre-order unless there's a decent introductory price on something I'm 95% sure of. We'll just say that I'm 100% sure of Doom, and if I see a $50 intro-price, I'll be pre-ordering.

That's only Fallout 76 as far as I'm aware. I don't think they're ditching Steam for Doom and Rage. If they ditch Steam, I don't know what I'll do, because id is the type of studio I'd break my policies for, but I feel quite strongly about not using other launchers.

Bethesda recently said they have not made any official decision for games other then fallout 76 to be exclusive to their launcher so it might still get on steam.

My GTX970 looks scared of this game.
honestly, DOOM 2016 ran at ultra settings (not nightmare) on my old 3G 7970 1080p 60FPS minimum. If the Id team working on DOOM has proven one thing, it's that they can make their games run amazingly on a range of hardware.

The only thing I don’t like is that this new version has lives
Unconfirmed. It probably has a "Savings throw" system that uses the lives in the same way the original game uses the 'rune' ability that slows down time and gives you a quick health boost if you reach 0 health... essentially you get a second chance to stay in the fight and not have to return to the start of the checkpoint.

Don't forget, they added an arcade style score attack mode to doom 2016 post launch. They could have been showing footage from that mode instead of the normal story driven campaign so as not to spoil anything, which would explain the extra life pickup, and lack of NPC dialog.

HAHA. Mine too. I'm actually going to get the 1170 around the time this releases. I just ordered a whole slew of new PC parts as I was using a I5-2600k. This game footage just made me say, "I don't want no frame dips."

Similar here. I'm running a 4690K + GTX1070, which actually exceeds what I need currently at the resolutions I play at, but I've started collecting parts to build around an ~1170.

Are the requirements that much more than the first game? Game ran nice on pretty much everything with 8GB plus ram

I haven't seen that mentioned yet. However, they did see fit to iterate the full version number of the engine, so I would assume it would bump the requirements up a bit. Tech 7 as opposed to Tech 6. I'm not sure that entails the kind of leaps that it did when John Carmack worked there, but Tech 6 was a definite jump. It was also insanely well optimized though, so there's that side of it as well.

DOOM 2016 runs ridiculously well on that 4690K system. I would assume Eternal will run well on it as well, but between it, and the possibility of Cyberpunk looming, it's about time to throw some more hardware together. :D

As I said here: https://hardforum.com/threads/quakecon2018-keynote-with-doom-eternal-gameplay-reveal.1965821/page-2#post-1043772234
I am not a man that believes in pre-orders, or in buying games before trying them out and spending good time with them (or at the very least checking out a bunch of reviews). I did not purchase Doom 4 until after I used a friend's copy to play through the entire game and had spent about 24 hours with it. Then I bought the game and put in almost 200 more hours (still have never touched multiplayer). Yes, I bought the game, despite never wanting to give money to Bethesda, and despite the game using Denuvo (which was thankfully removed later). I needed to give id Software money for their effort. Now here is Doom Eternal, not coming out until sometime in 2019 (I think), and already I want to give them my money. What the fuck is happening? So many changes happening in my body, I don't understand them. I was looking at the Doom Eternal footage and the snake in my pants got very stiff. Am I normal?

Looking forward to seeing masterful usage of Vulkan once again. Also do you guys remember what Robert Duffy said about Ryzen and idTech 7? https://hardforum.com/threads/id-software-on-amd-ryzen.1930715/

I'm hoping this is the case. The one thing that felt off to me watching that footage, was that parts of it had an arcade feel to them. Glad they added it to the first game for those who like that kind of thing, but I'd prefer to keep the suspense of belief the SP gives.

True enough. I loved the campaign and beat it three times before I tried out arcade. I loved arcade too. There's room for both. I highly doubt they would add a traditional "lives" system to a checkpoint-based shooter.

Glad to see this after the pandering in Wolfenstein 2. But then again, that is a good contrast of Swedish vs. Texan developer.
