Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Save yourself the grief. I'm telling you right now, there is no class more expensive to gear out than a monk. My gear isn't even that "great" but even to get where I am costs $$$$$.

B.net isn't updated with my paragon level, but the gear is still the same that I use right now at 45.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/harkamus-1584/hero/2619523

What's missing is a bit of vita and more resists, but vita costs a lot and is secondary to resists/armor/dex. Nothing will save you if you have 50k hitpoints but take 4x the damage since you have no mitigation.

I'm at 126k unbuffed/145k self buffed. My DH friend spent <5 million and broke 150k unbuffed. Sure he's squishy, but he's supposed to light stuff up from afar. In that respect he's doing great. Monks are supposed to take a licking and keep on ticking. To dish it and still be able to live is expensive.

OK fine, I exaggerated a bit. If you are on a tight budget, you can spend 3 mill and still clear mp2. It may take a while, but it's possible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Obv47i7GP3M

i dont think monks are that expensive to gear because you dont need alot of resist all gear like most classes.

you can get poison or cold gear aslong as you pick one and then also get some resist all on a couple pieces it will give you enough resists to handle anything. around 600 resist is all you need with one with everything passive.

prob the most expensive part of gearing a monk comes down to the weapons but prices have dropped so much lately you can gear out really well cheaply.

i have little issue in mp8 with the right skill setup but tend to do key runs around mp7 its fast and pretty much no deaths. but farming i just do mp1-3 like everyone else cause its so fast ect.

monks have skill advantage when it comes to survival if you are under geared. make sure you have damage delt converted to life on your weapons and you are golden even with mediocre damage using mantra of evasion with the backlash rune = near invicibility in large groups of mobs and shreds them at the same time. also sweeping wind, cyclone rune is is a ton a damage which heals you also combine that with backlash its pretty amazing what you can do with subpar gear.

heres my paragon 65 monk atm
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/WildAce-1546/hero/1001208

my dps is 133k unbuffed 218k self buffed not counting the 48% from the mantra.

I don't know, despite the differences between the WD and the D2 necromancer, they're still pretty similar. Really, I have a hard time seeing what they would bring back in, as the current classes really incorporate most of D2s. The druid in LoD however would be cool to bring back; there is no shapeshifter abilities currently in the game.

Some type of paladin type class isn't really in the game right now. Yes there is the monk, but he's not the standard armored warrior you'd usually see in this type of game. Maybe a knight, or something along those lines?

I think at a minimum they would at least bring in a Str char, since there are already 2 dex, 2 int and only 1 str.

Yeah but gear would be f***ed. With the D3 economy I just don't see how they could blow it all up without pissing off almost everyone. Although it would make them more money in the RMAH I guess. Hmm.

I can't remember, they didn't give new skills to existing classes in the LoD xpac, right?

Gear could just be lateral, meaning if you wanted it you could try to get it, but it wouldn't be necessary at all to play through the new content.

Funny little story earlier today. Friend of mine found a Stormshield. He was all excited. About as excited as I was when I first found one in 1.0.5. I thought I hit the jackpot when I found it. Then I checked the AH and saw them selling for under 50k buyout. I just laughed when my friend exclaimed his excitement. Told him he found a sub 50k shield. haha. Consequently one of the three Stormshields I found is on my templar. The other two got salvaged.

SS's can still be good but they need to be like perfect. >30% block, crit, blah blah.....

I sold the one I had for $90 on the RMAH way back in patch 1.0.1 days. First Legendary I had drop, and when I checked the AH, it had almost perfect stats. Looking back I probably coulda got $250 for it, but I figured nobody is going to pay real money for this stupid ass thing.

30 minutes later someone had bought it.

Way back? lol. Didn't D3 just come out in May?

I think many of us have this story. I sold a witch doctor weapon for 100 bucks instantly. It had over 1000 DPS, Life Steal, Socket, Critical Hit damage, and some type of witch doctor buff can't remember anymore.

but I do remember after it sold thinking.....Damn maybe I could of gotten more.

Yea i got a Stormshield, and my buddy told me to just vendor it.

Had perfect crit roll and good block, sold for 1.1m

Has anyone figured out if % elemental damage is calculated into your dps #?

I just picked up a tal's chest for the set bonus, but did not notice the 3% fire damage... unless the tooltip took into account the set bonus.

I agree.......some what.

To get the same gear between a monk and a barb the barb is more expensive. However the barb needs less good gear to be good. The monk is way more gear dependent. A barb you get 2 weapons with life steal and crit a belt with life steal and at least 30k life and your pretty much good to for some spin to win.

so if you spend 20 million on a monk and 20 million on a barb the barb will be better.

But if you find Identical gloves but one has dex and the other has strength the Dex will be cheaper because the barb is the most popular class......even more popular than the Monk and Demon Hunter combined.......Due to spin to win.

But in my opinion the monk is more fun to play. I have a tempest rush bell monk that is the funnest character I have. I can get up to around 25 spirit regen per second so I can Tempest Rush forever and drop bells on face all day.......My 50K dps is deceptive because my bells hit for 390% and I can pretty much drop them all day.......I do sacrifice survivability big time though.

Yeah the tooltip accounts for elemental damage bonuses from gear. I made a spreadsheet that calculates dps, EHP and other things from "normal" stats pretty accurately. But when dealing with elemental damage bonuses, the in-game tooltip usually reports a higher DPS number than what I'd expect it to. I still don't know where and how exactly it's calculated into your overall DPS, but it's certainly there.

Okay, thanks for the confirmation. Pretty stoked about that chest. Sure i lost 19% MF, but i'll make that up eventually.

Gained ~6k dps... now sitting at 81k in dps gear w00t!

Monk is the most fun for me too. Also, I bet that Skorn cost quite a bit since it has life steal, eh?

I'm gonna try a Tempest Rush build one day, but spirit regen gear isn't on my priority of things to get.

EDIT: How do you have two Stones of Jordan equipped? Is one legacy and one 1.0.4+?

Found my skorn, and I am pretty sure that it is the only thing on my monk I didn't buy. Overall the tempest rush is worse than other builds. But its more fun and fast. Best used on MP 1 or 0.

I pretty much have no Belt, Rings, or Amulet because I'm getting spirit regen from them so they are much weaker than they otherwise would be.

I can't wait for PvP.....My monk will never win a battle....But I can run faster than any character so I'm going to troll the hell out of people by just continually running away. They will quit eventually.

i also cannot wait for PVP.

It's probably going to be a very frustrating and sometimes funny nukefest.

It'd be sweet if they added in some CTF or other modes... arena really gets under my skin after a few matches

Also, you better be able to do a 1v1 against one of your friends. I'll probably spend all my time just dueling.

The current tal's set (not sure about legacy) only pertain to elemental based SKILLS, not straight up damage. Meaning the 3% fire skills only applies on specific abilities such as molten hydra, but not to venom hydra.

On the other hand, +% element DAMAGE will apply to all abilities. So the +8% poison damage from zuni boots will apply to both molten and venom hydra (provided using a "black" weapon previously discussed).

This is why the full tal's set sucks, it doesn't add up to much. The ammy is good with element damage and the chest is good with IAS, but the set is not worth going for

Anyone wanna get a MP0-1/key leveling/farming group going? It's lonely to play by myself all night :(

lvl 60 monk, pLvl11, 62kdps. Not sure if I can help tank higher MPs but i can try! :D

The verbiage they use is the same when compared to other % elemental damage bonuses. http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/5465/zuni.png

I really hope you're wrong. I would not have purchased the Tal's chest if the 3% only works on fire spells.

edit: you're right. Just checked my profile, (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/DukeLeto-1627/hero/801081) "fire skills deal 3% more damage". The image above is the Legacy set.

Sigh. Fuck you blizzard, you nerfed the tal's set when you buffed everyone else's legendaries. Waste of 15 mil.

That looks like a legacy set item. That picture doesn't show ilvl of the item and the IAS is over 9%, so it must be way before the nerf.

Can you link your profile with your items?

Edit: I guess Legacy was damage and not skills, but take a look at my current chest piece

You can most likely turn those set items around to break even or suffer minimal loss. Might even turn a profit.

True. I'm still kinda pissed though. Word's cannot describe how inept their team must be with these changes.

3% damage to Lightening Skills. Which lightening skills?

Wizard is just all-around designed poorly. Rabble Rabble.

Tal's is still among the best for chest int DPS. You can now not worry about keeping the belt for set bonus if you go for witching hour.

Ah true. I've never even looked at the Witching Hour. How much do those cost?

North of 15 million. 15 is if you're lucky and find one that cheap.

EDIT: And despite the new Tal's set having bonus to elemental skill damage, it's still not bad. Monks have the same thing in a legendary fist weapon. It has both, elemental damage and + to elemental skills damage, in our case lightning. People don't buy it for the elemental damage. Monks buy it for the lightning skills damage, which can reach a max of 25%. Many monks use two skills that both have lightning damage components. That 25% is still huge. Granted, no individual piece of the Tal's set has upwards of 25% to skills damage, it's still great if you want to stack that stuff and are using the skills of the element type that is being augmented.

If you camp the AH and don't refresh it so much that the server kicks you off you can grab one for under 10 mil. Got to be really quick though! I got a 1100 dps Manitcore with 2 sockets for 13k yesterday. As in 13,000 not 13,000,000. :)

Yea you're right, i was overreacting a little bit, as Meteor is currently my damage dealer. It's just silly that while they were supposed to be buffing legendaries, that they actually nerfed the wizard's. Our skills lack a lot of foresight too. Two signature lightening abilities? Why not merge those and make a fire one (fireball anyone?)? No lightening AP dump moves? Get rid of the worthless Arcane Torment ability and put chain lightening there! Also, there's no good Ice move either, outside of blizzard which is more utility imo. I want frozen orb back.

TONS of arcane moves, yet arcane skill damage didn't make it onto the set while lightening did?:confused::rolleyes::mad:

With the way they built a passive for each damage type, you would think they'd make viable lightening or frost or fire or arcane builds. Arcane is pretty much the only one because there are enough moves for it.

Damn what a find. Hopefully i'll get lucky!

My best find on the AH to date was a rare 1.5 million fist weapon which ended up being more damage than many rare fist weapons over 100 million that had innate crit and open sockets.

If you could helpme get a LS/300 int SKORN over 1280 dps, I'd be eternally grateful!

My dps and survival is normally fine, DR is my biggest kryptonite. I could probably bum to farming mp5 easy with LS to compensate for DR

I have too much time invested in this game to risk a ban. I know getting banned for it is unlikely but still possible.

Little post about someone asking blizzard on their opinion on it.

http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/3950095509

actually i have seen a bunch of twitter replies from Wilson saying its against the license agreement, however the purpose of the license agreement is to prevent hacks and currently blizzard didnt consider darkd3 a hack. keyword yet.

however i wasnt so much curious about whether or not it is allowed. just if people were using it and if so which one.. i know there was a skyrim one floating out there people were using too.

just curious

I used the injector for the first month or two without issue. I reinstalled the game when I upgraded to a SSD though and haven't used it since.

Ah that's right. I was thinking of Tal's ammy that gave a fire damage bonus, rather than the set bonus. :(

That's one of a couple instances of subtle wording that can change the meaning of bonuses. The other one is IAS and ASI. Most of us use IAS wrongly I think, since IAS boosts the base weapon speed and ASI (the most common one on gear and skills) is multiplied on top of that. I think IAS only exists on weapons and at least 1 legendary piece of armor (I forget which one but I recall that it could roll either IAS or ASI). Not to mention the Enchantress' attack speed bonus is actually +0.03 attacks per second, not 3% IAS/ASI. Lots of confusing stuff out there.

Totally didn't even think about that. You're right on the IAS and ASI. I guess a lot of us are used to d2 nomenclature where it was IAS.

What I would give for even just a shael rune. Think of the possibilities.

Just got Inna's set pants from a resplendent chest. Almost as good as getting a legendary out of a barrel once.

Sigh I need to farm my pLevels faster so I can get more MF :( Getting good stat gear + MF = $$$$$$

That has always been my standpoint on MF...get it naturally through pLevels. In fact I don't even look for gear with MF on the auction house. That means the MF took up a modifier slot for something that could be more useful for me. Same for gear I find myself. The only time MF finds its way on any piece of gear I have is if that piece is still an upgrade for the slot despite having MF.

Oh fuck. Those Inna's pants were just what I needed. I was gonna upgrade mine that have no vita on them to a pair with vita. The ones I found have 160 vita.

But...I'm tempted to sell them since they're worth 70 million+. lol

It's not that I need the vita. I can survive perfectly fine for what I'm running. It's just that I want the vita. I suppose I can sell these pants and upgrade something else instead.

+1

I had 300 MF at one point... then switched to no MF (just paragon, nephalem v.) and noticed 0 difference in drops (they sucked regardless)

no MF = more kills, more drops, more chance of something less shitty dropping

Well i was afraid my 2 legendary/rare per act luck ran out, yesterday a full run yeilded nothing. Today 4 dropped. Sultan(crap), madstone (crap), nats chestpiece (probably crap) and manajuma's carving stone (maybe a mil or two). I'm still averaged out with 2 per run :)

Still trying to sell off my IK Helm
454 Armor (out of 457)
+212 Str
+65 int
+12% life(max roll)
5.5% crit (out of 6)
6% reduced damage (max roll)

I was hoping for 60-80mil for it, considering the high str, armor, life and reduce damage, but i cant find any takers

I got 45 million for mine which had 6% crit, 6% reduced damage, 200 str, and +armor. 60 for yours might be pushing your luck. I had to relist mine several times to get it to sell, and I know barbs like the + armor. Mine was over 600 armor rating.
