Does anyone else Item swap vs DR? For MP2-3, I can get away trading a dps ammy to a resist all/900 Loh ammy. Higher MP levels i need to swap out my skorn for a LoH/LS axe and shield combo.

I've been slowly boosting my survival, but I still need to swap vs DR. I think I'm going to save big for a good LS skorn, they seem to go from 60-80mil

Not really, have 2 different builds entirely, with some gear differences, when dealing with DR affixes. With an Archon build, it's still great at MP3, but my DPS hasn't improved lately because I haven't been making much gold for big upgrades. DR can get me if I'm careless though and overall it's still slightly annoying. I imagine that it'll start making a comeback if I ever improve my DPS again.

At higher MP levels, I switch to a CM build with LoH and LS from Blood Magic. My tooltip DPS is a lot lower without glass cannon and with worse gear (DPS-wise), but my effective DPS is still great and DR enemies are a non-issue at any MP level.

Reflect has a tendency to rape me if I'm not careful, especially if combined with Electrify. I don't really want to gear for it because they've talked about changing it kind of like they did shielding.

I got two legendaries in A1 running MP2 the other day. One is a nice roll, and I'm really hoping that it sells for something close to my expectations. We're talking 60 million and up.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/7004697180#1

Yea that is a nice one. Good luck on the sale. The market for those at least yesterday was crappy though. My friend found a similar one but with 360 max damage. He only managed to get 6 million out of that.

Cool, so I'm getting at least 40M from The Witching Hour I put up for bid only so far. Now it's time to plan out my gear choices a little more carefully, even though I'll probably end up getting 1 good piece of gear out of it. Anyone know of a good reference site for Wizard gearing? There are only a few things I lean towards when browsing, like pure DPS on jewelery and gloves, crit on helm/bracers, etc. Everything else I try to emphasize resists, armor and vit, but still as much int as possible. Also, are there any particularly neat set combos I can exploit for a CM build?

Legendary and set items were dropping like rares for me all weekend, most brimstones but either way, was good stuff

Ok so apparenly blizzard profiles take into account all buffs you have active when you log out, a simple snapshot of your stats. Meaning shrines and combat buffs are factored int.

Having said that....
https://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/zekromancer4-1728/hero/21116203

lol. 1.7 million damage. You must've had close to all of the shrines and buffs active.

Your gear is crazy. How did you get all that with such low elite kill count? You must've banked on the AH.

I always thought you were higher paragon level too. hah

picked this up again, game is much more enjoyable now... because its actually beatable. i like that i am finding upgrades too.

idk i think i'll play this more. wish i could get my friends back in too

I feel the same way. All but one of my friends really still plays, and even he only logs in occasionally. That's okay though, for now I like soloing and leveling paragon. Finding items along the way is bonus. I try to get 10 paragon levels a week, which right now is possible since the XP isn't insane yet. This week's goal is to hit 60. I should be 54-55 tmrw. I'm close to 52 right now.

Also, I'm getting all my gaming out right now before grad school starts in Jan. :p Whether or not I'll be paragon level 100 before then, I'm not sure.

I feel like you're leveling Paragon so much faster then me.

Also that WD gear is insane.

After like a week of not getting anything worth more then like 1m I got a Barb set bp that should be worth 100-110m. Almost perfect Str/Vit rolls (well, vit was perfect), 73 AR, +250ish armor, and 4% life.

Oh thats not me :) I've got a P43 wizard. I just like finding all the uber decked out chars. It's a bit of a guideline for what I should go for, even though I'll probably never afford anything like those pieces.

They should nerf Strongarm bracer drops. There seems to not be a day where I don't find at least one pair.

One thing I wish D3 would change is legendary/set item drop names. When they drop in D3, you have a generic item tag like "bracers." They should have done the tagging like in D2, where the item tier name was given. Instead of bracers, it should say "archon bracers." Then again, I think the reason D3 didn't go that route has more to do with the legendary/set items themselves not being part of any tier. They are separate.

So I see bracers drop and hope for Lacunis, but I always get Strongarms. lol. Same thing for when legendary helms drop. I always wish for a Mempo. but it's always an Andy's.

^^ I wish they would add in more legendaries, but make them less random. It's silly that any given item can range from 20,000 gold to 1,000,000,000 gold.

If you get an Andarial's Visage to drop, you should pretty much already know what it has on it and what it's worth.

This will never happen, i know. A man can dream though!

Power-leveled my monk up to 60, definitely enjoying him. Built as a tank currently, only 38k DPS buffed. Definitely can see that upping DPS significantly will be hugely expensive, but not dying nearly as much as my wiz is a big plus. Any monks on here mind sharing their builds? I'm pretty new here and don't have much of an idea of how best to play it. Went out and dropped some decent money on the AH, sitting at 1k for all my resists and about 42k HP. Able to go through MP3, but fairly slow as I don't do much DPS even though I'm not dying too often. I really, really need a fast hitting LOH weapon, but good lord they're expensive. Whatever the set item monk fist is named, it's amazing, but talking 80M+ for a socket, LOH and a good DPS roll.

Lol, I did the same for my RL friend. He had a level 37 monk. After finally logging in D3 after a few week absence, he sees my, at the time, paragon 48 monk. First words he said was, "HOLY JESUS, level 48 paragon." So he asks me how long I thought it would take to get him to 60. I said prob under 2 hours. Took about 2.5 hours in the end. All I did was mp10 NM until he hit 50. Then I did mp10 hell until he hit 60. Finally did mp2 inferno to show him the runs I do for paragon farming.

He thought it would take 12 hours or more to hit 60. lol. The first mp10 NM run netted him about 6 levels.

As far as builds, Fist of Thunder: Thunderclap, Sweeping Wind: Cyclone or the fire one if your crit chance is <20-25%, Breath of Heaven + whatever rune it is that gives damage boost, Serenity: Ascension, Mantra (Evasion if you're feeling squishy with either Backlash or the armor rune; Backlash for more damage, armor...for armor; Conviction: Overawe if you can handle the loss in mitigation gained from Evasion), + one utility of your choice 7 Sided Strike, Dashing Strike (my favorite for mobility), or Blinding Light (with damage rune. Blinding Light is probably the most popular).

Passives I like Resolve, Seize the Initiative, and One With Everything. OWE is used by almost all monks out there. I would never drop this one. Seize the Initiative got nerfed in half but is still one of the better passives we have. I would not drop this one either. Resolve is personal preference. I see it as a bit of extra mitigation. If a mob hits you for 20% less damage, it's like having 20% extra armor.

Why Thunderclap? 1) Fist of Thunder is already the quickest spirit generating skill for monks. Turn on advanced tooltips and you can see. But more importantly, 2) the teleport aspect of Thunderclap gets you out of jailer. It's the same reason I pick up Dashing Strike. Dashing strike has more range than Fist of Thunder. Whereas you can only get out of jailer with Fist of Thunder if you target a mob, Dashing Strike can get you out without targetting, though if you do target something, provided there's a mob around, it has much longer range. It's about 3/4 screen length range on Dashing.

As far as gearing is concerned, I like crit/crit damage. You can refer to my toon as a guide. Keep in mind I want to get more resist and vita, but that's millions in upgrade cost for me right now.

Damnit. I knew my friend was a noob! He had me rush him a few levels, and I asked "Why aren't we on MP10?"

and he replied, "oh it's just as fast on MP0 since we kill shit quick"

Rabble rabble. Took me an hour to get him 2 levels.

2 levels an hour...is that really power leveling? haha

Thanks for the tips, I'll have to build on all that when I get back on Tuesday. I already have all the passives you chose, so that makes me feel good. What about IAS? The reason I ask is that with LOH, it increases both survivability and DPS at the same time. I won't lie, I used the RMAH to gear this guy a bit...bought some gold, and a 6% crit chance, 46% crit dmg, +38 fire res, +45 VIT ring for...$1.25. :p

Also, unfortunately I can't see your link at work, do you go sword and board?

IAS at least on gloves tends to cost a lot more than crit damage. I love IAS, but it's too expensive for me to put on more than a few slots. I will eventually get trifecta things, but not for a long time. Tzo' Krins Gaze with 7% IAS and 6% crit should only set you back a few hundred thou. Consider it a baby Mempo without the resist. It's better than Inna's Radiance IMO and cheaper, especially if you look at Inna's with resist. I like Tzo's so much that I'm not upgrading until I find/buy a Mempo.

Life on hit is great...when your damage is below 50k and you crit like a wet noodle. Past 50k white damage life steal is gonna give you more return. Lifesteal procs on everything. It procs on every hit including skill effects like tornados. Life on hit doesn't proc on everything. LS even procs on Backlash rune.

Actually, I recall using life steal when I was around 40k damage, but even then my crit chance was 33%. It still healed me for over 4k a tick on my fist of thunder hits, and less that on my tornadoes, but I generate tons of tornadoes.

My advice is not to get fixated on life on hit. Get as much as you can, but know that you absolutely need to make that shift to life steal later on if you want to do more than just mp2 inferno.

Your mileage is gonna vary though. As a monk you need to up your resist and armor at the same time as upping your life on hit/life steal. On top of that, the damage you deal is gonna dictate how much return you get out of life steal, since inferno nerfs LS to 20%. Yes, I have 2.7% life steal, but really only .54 after inferno nerf. But at my damage right now, my .54 LS heals for 6k+. I can stand in descrator/plague/firechain all day long. The only stuff that should take you down is molten/arcane/reflect. But you just have to learn what you can't stand in for prolonged periods of time. Same with reflect. Knowing when to let off the throttle is key to not killing yourself.

I have 356 life on hit.

I once bought 4 million in RMAH gold because I really wanted this ring on gold AH. The next day I found an item I sold for 103 million. I guess I didn't need to buy gold. lol.

So yea, I spent 2.18 cents on 4 million gold, but I have made over 100 bucks on RMAH way back when. These days I don't sell stuff on there anymore. Don't really find stuff worth enough to sell for real money.

Few monk tips. Get a feel for how long you can wait to cast Serenity before specials like frozen bombs explode. The longer you can wait the more effective it is because while you haven't cast it, you're still damaging the elite pack. Then when you do cast, something that might have killed you after Serenity wore off had you casted it before, won't kill you since you're still protected. Also, Sweeping Wind costs quite a bit of spirit to cast, so try as much as possible not to let it wear off. That means figuring out what destructibles refresh the Sweeping Wind. Thunderclapping into bone piles and barrels will refresh it. Finally, mantra spamming is great for extra survivability or damage depending on which Mantra you have. Beside refreshing my Mantra before it wears off, I cast it on elite packs. Oh and one more thing, Sweeping Wind damage comes after all buffs, so whenever possible, cast your Breath of Heaven before casting Sweeping Wind. The only time I don't do that is if I die and need my Sweeping Wind up asap since it pulls double duty as reducing mob damage and leaching life back for me.

EDIT: One more great tip. If you're using Dashing Strike, it places you behind the mob. You can use this to your advantage to get outside of Fire Chains and Molten.

More awesome info, thanks. I have a LS weapon, maybe I'll try that. With a shield upgrade I should have won while I was away, I should be around 41k or so, but with 42% crit (and up to ~1050 res all).

Also, what follower do you use? I've been using the enchantress with her charm skills, as well as a legendary staff I found that gives a chance to charm on hit.

I have used them all over the course of monk-dom. I've pretty much stopped using the Templar and Enchantress in favor of my Windforce using scoundrel. The Windforce has up to 50% knockback. Mine has 49.something. I put on cheap IAS/crit jewelry on him, but he's mainly for crowd control. He can take on elite mobs himself because he never gets hit due to the knockback. It may take 3-5 minutes to take elites down, but he can. :p

He dies here and there, but that's because as a monk, you're always mobile. He's up more than he's down and the crowd control is great. If you go Scoundrel, spec in Multishot. The rest is up to you.

Some guy on reddit just found one of the godliest ammys in existence, sweet jesus: http://redd.it/132w30

I plugged the numbers into my wizard and the DPS boost for me is almost exactly the same as it was for him in the screen shot, about 44.1k DPS lol. And my ammy already has over 200 int, 8% IAS and 8.5% crit.

To my knowledge LOH and LS work exactly the same with ability coefficients. If it works for LS, then it works for LOH.

For LS, dps does not matter, only actual damage done. You can either look at the numbers you deal in game, or import your character into d3up to see the damage range (and crit damage range) of your abilities.

Take damage done, divide by 5 (inferno nerf) then multiply by LS percentage. This number is the exact same as if you had that much LOH.

After you get that number, you multiply by the ability's spell coefficient to get actual HP returned. This is why most of the time you actually see less Hp returned than you were expecting. Some abilities have 100% spell coefficient, which means they'd return the full amount you would expect, most abilities do not. No rune magic missile is 100%, but that's because it hits one target and doesn't have a speed multiplier. My electrocute spell has I think 12.5% because it hits 3 targets and hits twice as fast as my attack speed.

This coefficient is also the same for proc rates for stuff like knock back. If I have a 40% chance to knock back and use an ability with 50% coefficient, I only knock back 20% of hits with that ability. This affects stuff like critical mass(reduced cool down on crit) arcane power returned in crit, fear, bleed, etc.

It doesn't. Not for monks anyway. I've tested this numerous times. For example, Backlash rune does fire damage if you dodge. I put on only life no hit gear and stood in inferno mp1 getting hit several times for a few minutes. It never procced life on hit. I swapped gear into life steal. Did the same thing and got healed.

Life steal is an always on thing. It bypasses proc coefficient.

How's this for a build?

I've got a few items I'm looking to improve, right now without SS 70kdps, but even without it, I have a good mix of 210 crit dmg + 23 crit chance. In observing combat, I notice that the highest I see it recharge with ss is about 36% which is 13/3 = 4 sec gap b/w crits or less due to the fact I attack 2.33 times/sec and if using elemental arrow, the crit triggers potentially each enemy it touches...

I've been playing off and on the last few weeks and have been very satisfied with what I've been able to get on my DH.

The game is definitely grindy, as is to be expected, but I feel like I consistently get reward now, whether it's through the AH or Drops (most likely AH). I feel like I'm on the verge of being able to efficiently farm MP levels soon. If I find some upgrades for shoulder, bracer, belt, pants and boots I'll be happy to jump into MP 2 and higher on my own. I'm looking forward to some Hellfire ring farming.

If you are going to use sharpshooter, the spray of teeth rune actually works out better since it has an AoE bonus as well. Since you use spike traps as well, odds are you clump them together and stun and the aoe of spray of teeth triggers with crits.

I got totally burnt out on the game and just sold my account for $500. I had offers up to $1000 for it, but I sold it to a group of folks who I played with a lot. I know they'll get a lot of use out of the gear and gold I had and even make a few bucks.

I got about 1000 hours of play time and $500 for my $60 purchase. Can't beat that.

Not a bad thing. I hope to get as lucky as you if/when I get burned out.

At a total loss on what slot to improve. Have around 18 million. Any ideas guys?

Better weapon. Pretty much same stats but add life steal.

Or you could get immortal kings belt.

Congrats that's hardcore.

Wonder how many people will return to the game after the PVP patch goes live? If you die in PVP on a hardcore character do you lose your character? If you did it would be worth adding a Roman Arena spectator mode to it. I'd pay a million gold for a front row camera of it. :)
