Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

From my experience magic find does very little. When fighting packs. Went through 5 runs with 291 Magic find and 5 runs with 100 MF.........Didn't notice a difference at all between the two.

Fighting white groups though do drop more items with high magic find.

5 runs is still quite a small sample. The link I posted has a sample size of hundreds of items (500-800) for each MF value.

From my MF swapping experience back when I farmed siegebreaker, it's quite a noticeable difference.

No because i don't play for a challenge, its a capitalist game i will farm the easiest spot and hope for nice drops. The only thing that makes the game hard is gear anyway

I do notice that I get quite a few rares from normal monsters now.
My MF is only 25% or so, it just happens to be on my boots and an amulet that I wear.

I'm really not sure why my dps is so low. I have 900+dps 1h too. I still am lacking IAS and Crit tho, so that's likely it. Rocking 210 MF, and think it was a poor investment considering you can farm without it and still yield the same quality drops :(

Are you using magic weapon?

But it will take you longer.

boom. thank you sir..

MF at 210% is going to slow you down significantly

where as you could just have 100% easy and 30k dps and be destroying act 1 like its nothing and quickly too.

all mf does is increase your chances at getting higher quality look.

if i kill 8 packs at 2% drop rate

you kill 2 packs at 4% drop rate

whos winning here?

Unfortunately I cannot view that at work but I also saw this.

Doesn't sound as large of a sample as in your link but MF to me doesn't really seem worth the hassle. You might even be able to argue that keeping an entire MF set in your inventory will cause you to return to town more often, thus taking longer for farming runs. So if you can farm faster then MF really becomes a moot point imo. Of course, if you're able to have MF on your already best gear then I guess it wouldn't matter or hurt any.

EDIT: Saw some more posts and I completely agree. Regardless of how much MF you have, it's all about getting 5 stack and farming AS MANY elite/champ packs, bosses, gobs, resplendent chests as possible in the SHORTEST amount of time.

Well you know you can just switch gear right before killing an elite, right?

Selling stuff takes less than 30 seconds. A well-rolled rare is exponentially more valuable than any blue, so it most definitely is worth the hassle.

Blizzard might be "fixing" that in the near future but we'll see.

Well, as said above, if you can have magic find on your farming gear, that works best. Why kill 8 packs at a 2% drop rate or 2 packs at a 4% drop rate when you can kill 8 packs at a 4% drop rate! But, I try to use a hybrid gear which allows easy kills and decent drops. It's about 213% in Act 1 and 108% in Act 2. Unfortunately, Acts 3 & 4 don't work quite as well, as I need survivability gear, and only 1 of my pieces has magic find.

Yea this is what i'm starting to realize. I guess it's time to look for some crit/int/resist all gear?

Are you using magic weapon?

Yes, and sparkflint in order to reach 20k. unbuffed i'm at ~16k.

itemization is hard enough without trying to include MF.

most gear that has All Res and the attributes you want with magic find is extremely expensive and in general not worth the price.

another person mentioned switching your gear out.. this can be pretty risky. also it seems to me spending time kiting to switch out your gear properly would just slow you down

Where were you when you found that hat?

I don't usually farm Act 2, but i got it while i was there killing elite packs in the Oasis Path , then killed ZK, went all the way to Belial

when i got to belial i couldn't even solo him as a DH :(

Yes, Blizzard has talked about "fixing" MF swapping. Either way, I don't swap in HC for obvious reasons.

It worked quite well for me during the heyday of siege breaker runs. You get used to the swapping. Even without a macro it'd take maybe 3 seconds. It was very noticeable with and without swapping. This was a bigger deal before the NV change though.

I figure for A1, you could easily swap out defensive stats for MF + Offense stats that wouldn't slow down your farming by much.

@Intel agreed. Now with the new change to NV not sure if it's as big of a worthwhile change.

Also, if you're using MF gear that slows you down, your MF gear blows and you're doing it wrong IMO.

The way I see it,

Progression -> Progression Gear
Farming -> Gear that maintains the same level of killing speed but now with MF/GF on it.

Yea... i just figured that since Diablo is all about finding those dropped items, there's no reason not to try to progress with MF gear on, just getting better MF pieces as you go. As previously mentioned, however, they're fucking expensive so progression is slow.

find a friend who can tank for you; did act 3 yesterday with a buddy of mine who plays a monk and the drops are significantly better which increased my progression significantly.

I don't always farm act 2, but when I do I prefer to carry Kulle's head

Sorry, couldn't resist :D

Man the fucking Auction house has been down in the Eu since sunday. Unbelievable

I did a few runs without my MF gear last night, and also experimented with switching at the last second even though they are planning to remove that somehow. I noticed less rares before hitting 5 stack NV, but I'm not sure if it's enough to make a difference. It's nice to just zone out in Act 1 inferno and not worry about dying or having to switch gear at the last second.

Also while running with 0 MF I managed to luck out and find a Skull Grasp. Hopefully that will fund some all resist + MF gear so I don't have to choose between MF gear and resist gear in the future.

always worth the price man... I'm starting to search for 150+ int, 40+ res all and within 3% of max MF. It takes a while to properly replace your gear but its nice to have 40k dmg AND above 200MF which is what I'm working on having

If anybody has quit the game I need to get an account for a friend so PM me if you're interested in selling the account before we just go buy the game for him.

I think the problem is stat itemization.

For example, 6 prop gloves (the highest that you can get)

1. Primary dex only stat
2. Dex/Vit combination roll (yes it's a seperate prefix, the only way you can get max of 300 i think)
3. Attack Speed
4. Critical Chance
5. Critical Damage
6. All Res

I wouldn't sacrifice any of those slots for MF. Again, purely min/maxing stats perspective.

For Act 1/2 on a barb it's not too bad to sacrifice a stat for MF, just a pain to search for since I would ideally want STR/VIT/ALL RES/MF and the dumb auction house interface limits me to searching for 3 stats. So for now I get the pleasure of Searching for either STR/VIT plus the other two essential stats nd then scrolling through pages of listings to try and find a decent combo worth buying. Hopefully they update that one day.

This is my biggest issue with the AH. I would save so much time being able to search for exactly what i want. After looking through 10 pages and not finding what i want, i typically say 'fuck this shit why am i looking at this awful excuse of an AH interface' and alt-f4.

Does anyone who browses blizzard d3 forums know if this is a frequently requested feature?

I find the AH search to be a blessing and a curse. Makes it harder to find the right item but also means it's harder for other users so I have a chance to snag that killer steal before they do :p

The absolute worst is trying to find a source for a wizard offhand. The damage stat is the primary stat that drives everything, yet it is impossible to search for. Very frustrating.

I agree. I have a 105-410 dmg 85 INT source that I couldn't sell probably because of this reason.

gotta love it when I see tons of 20%GF 100+ int sources with 30-60dmg over $3m

idk about you guys but i would love to be buying millions of gold from the AH... where the fuck is that functionality :p

Sounds like they didn't fix shit this week, I haven't played now in 3.

Dammit!!! Fuck you Blizzard. I was sitting and waiting to bid on some sweet gear (with 3mins to go on the auction) and I get booted by some weird error. Now Battle.net is down. Sons of bitches!!!

I was about to kill the butcher when I got "There was an error creating your own party" and was disconnected.

So my current goal is to save up a pack full of ilvl 63 rares and identify them all at once. I would not be at all surprised if I didn't find a single good one. I have one 63 belt so far, lol, long way to go.
