that damage is really low! you dont need a crazy high dps weapon right now, just something to help you get through act 1.. look for cheap life on hit weapons with 700-800 dps.

With the market as it is, he probably will not be finding an 800 dps LoH weapon for less that a million. Keep in mind, wizard dps is quite inflated vs a barbarian too. He should be OK at 12k using a shield. Ideally a sword with IAS and LoH gem will be good enough for act I ;)

Hey guys, can anyone provide any insight?

is this monk fist any good?

I...will...NEVER be able to afford something like that.

I think my four or five year old Deathadder is starting to crap out on me. Or my 33 year old finger. Not sure which.

Wrath of the Berserker, War Cry, Ignore Pain, and Revenge seem to be good choices for Barbarians...pretty much on any difficulty.

I...will...NEVER be able to afford something like that.

Me neither, I'm limping along with a ~400 dps weapon with some Dex and LoH. Thankfully I have a good dps group that I tank for, which makes up for my weak dps :)

Why? A fast 700+ DPS weapon with a socket can be had for about 20k.

You'd be surprised. Just farm the living the shit out of A1, and you'll get drops like that. They may not suit you per se but they will suit someone on the AH, thats how you make the big sales and then you can buy geared specifically tailored to you.

Farm, farm, farm. I felt like I was limping too and I got a pretty decent upgrade yesterday in A1. A nice fast 1H 800 dps sword for my monk, had dex, vit and a socket. No base LoH though but still.

Not true, I've been scouting the AH for the past week looking for this. Cheapest I found I had to bid on. At the time, bid was 50K, I bid 100K and ended up losing in the end. Unless you're referring to a piece of crap that has no main stats.

Since release it has become an increasingly common practice to keep a Magic Find (MF) set in your inventory, and swap it in shortly before a kill. Philosophically we don't have a problem with the practice. While players getting more Magic Find for their kills isn't a game breaker for us, many players have said they don't enjoy doing it but feel the benefit is too large to ignore. Since the call for a solution really comes from all of you, we'd like to invite you to chime in with your opinion on what the solution could be.
It's worth keeping in mind that if we do implement a method to alleviate gear-swapping in combat, we'll simultaneously be looking at ways for players to get an added MF bonus to compensate.

Here are the solutions we're currently considering, and would appreciate your feedback and opinion on what seems the most reasonable for you, and why:

Option 1: Set a Magic Find Cap
We could set an MF cap between something like 100% and 200%. Nephalem Valor provides 75%, so you would need between 25% and 125% to reach the hard cap. Everyone could find ways to hit the cap for MF% on their gear and then stop.

Pros: Creates a gearing-game around trying to hit the "MF% cap" that some players enjoy. It also solves the swapping issue for people with enough gear to hit the cap. Players who want to min-max and gear swap can do so, and players who think it's stupid but feel "compelled" can try to hit the new cap instead.

Cons: Depending on where the cap is set, it may not actually alleviate gear swapping, and players who wish they didn’t have to will feel compelled to do so. It also devalues a highly valuable stat, and desired stats mean desired gear, which helps diversify the item hunt.

Option 2: Slowly Adjust Magic Find Over Time
When you equip an item with Magic Find, we don't let your MF% change right away. Instead your Magic Find slowly "drifts" towards the target Magic Find -- potentially something like 1% every 3 seconds. If you open up your Character Details sheet, you can see the number change "8%... 9%... 10%." Even though you could in theory switch to Magic Find gear for the killing blow and get a few extra percent, it’s probably not worth it.

Pros: High degree of visibility as your stat sheet updates. Still allows you to swap your gear when you get an upgrade in the world without having to feel bad about putting the item on.

Cons: May not alleviate the problem for players who still feel compelled to get a few extra MF%. Depending on the rate, some players may just swap in an item during the last 20 seconds of a fight even though they don’t want to.

Option 3: Use your average MF% or your lowest MF% of the last 5 minutes
We could sample your MF% every 30 seconds or so and create a moving average, or use the lowest MF% the game has seen on your character in the last few minutes.

Pros: A lot of the same benefits as Solution 2, but harder to game. Still allows you to switch gear when you get an upgrade, which is great.

Cons: Difficult to communicate. We'd have to communicate this on the Details page somehow, but during normal gameplay there could be the sense of not knowing what your "moving average" is and wanting to look at it. Magic Find is already a difficult number to feel at any point in time, so hidden rules that modify Magic Find feel that much worse.

Option 4: Zero-Out Your MF% for 3 Minutes After Swapping Gear
When you swap gear, your Magic Find is disabled for 3 minutes.

Pros: Absolutely effective at discouraging gear swaps. Still allows you to swap gear when you find an upgrade, and the 3 minute duration is probably short enough that if you kill an Elite pack and get an upgrade, you can put that upgrade on and have your Magic Find active again by the time you get to the next pack.

Cons: Players who are unfamiliar with the system may open up their details page and see their Magic Find as 0% and not understand why. We could mitigate this by making the 0% MF colored with a tooltip stating the countdown until your Magic Find would work again, as well as what your Magic Find will be when the time expires.

Option 5: Gear Swapping Interacts with Nephalem Valor
There's a whole class of solutions that interact with Nephalem Valor. For example, we could remove a stack of Nephalem Valor when you swap a piece of gear.

Pros: Stops gear swapping just for the last kill, while still allowing the player the option to do so.

Cons: Some players will lose a stack by accident. We could put a confirmation box in to address accidental loss of a stack, but game-interrupting popups are potentially character-killing. It also causes co-op players to drop out of sync. One person may switch gear and lose a stack or two, and if it happens before a boss they'll want to clear two more packs before hitting the boss, but the other party members may not want to -- causing some tense social situations in co-op play. Finally, it tightly couples two systems together and generally tightly-coupled systems don't function over the long haul as well as loosely-coupled systems. In other words, future changes to the Nephalem Valor system or the Magic Find system (or systems related to those two systems) become harder to make as both systems would be impacted.

While we're having our own discussions and tests of how well these options could work, we’re interested to hear your thoughts. We’d mainly like to hear which approaches you like, if there are any specifics you like or don't like about it, and why. Having the context of how this affects you personally really helps us.
We're going to be locking down comments in this article to focus feedback to one location, so please head to the forum thread link below to discuss

Thoughts??

How about none of the above?

Soft cap it at 125% worn, then add half a percent per percent afterwards. Leave gear swapping as is.

How about just create a hotbutton to swap out a whole gear set at once? You have to have the items in your inventory at the time of the swap. Leads to less inventory space to hold the loot but that would be the drawback to it. Not like it would be hard to code that.

I'm so mad atm with the Auction house in the EU, since sunday it has been up and down like a tarts nickers, It's swallowing peoples money and just giving errors. it is completely FUBAR

And earlier my skull grasp finished on the RMAH, only there was no log of its ending or anything, i was about to just quit this game for ever but luckily it turned up 30 mins later out of nowhere and i breathed a massive sigh of relief.

700+ dps weapon with a reasonable amount of Dex and LoH? heck, even without Dex and only LoH they sell for way more than 20k. :(

Yup, I'm farming a lot with my group. It's kinda ridiculous how often I have to go back to town to vendor the bad rares, I think I've gotten a few reasonably decent items to sell but haven't had any luck selling them.

Option 1 de-values all MF gear and people would only wear Helm/Amulet since they give the highest bonuses.

Option 2 would have people sitting in town for 10 minutes or more waiting for their MF value to go up.

Option 3 just adds a lot of needless complexity to the issue and if they didn't want to add diminishing returns to attack speed because of that, then they obviously won't do it here.

Options 4 and 5 punish people that swap gear for other reasons (LoH weapons, Shields, Resistance armor, etc.)

Seriously this was poorly thought out and I don't understand why they're seeking to punish players when at the top of the article it says they don't have a problem with it?

Actually got some nice items yesterday in Act1 inferno

ilvl55 ammy w:
100str
158int
103vit
+35% crit dmg
socket

ilvl62 ring
+68 str
+40 vit
+45 res all
+4% chance to crit

How much do you think I could get for those on the RMAH?

That's already the drawback. They want to "balance" it. Their ideas suck, however.

It baffles me why they would make it needlesly complex or punitive mecahnically. Rebalance MF as a whole, leave gear swapping alone. Though, do add in a main/off hand gear swap button.

I dont understand it either. I think all of those options are very bad. I hope they dont do any of them. I dont quite understand why they consider this to be an issue. What is the big problem with letting experienced/skilled players swap their gear at the last second. It takes a little strategy and skill to do anyways, why shouldnt they be rewarded....

For me, I dont even swap gear cause its a pain in the ass and too time consuming. I find rares so often usually my inventory becomes full and id probably end up getting items mixed up with mine if I did that.

If i had to pick an option from the list, it would probably be the use the lowest MF from the last 5 minutes option. That would definitely fix the issue and its least intrusive to the game.

Id rather they just put a hoykey in the game to be able to switch gear on the fly like in D2(but that was only for weapons).

this is the fun option, but Blizzard is heading down the same road they did with the IAS nerf and if they go through with some type of MF nerfing, they are going to reduce the fun of MF swapping players and will possibly cause many of those players to quit

the D3 team is still having trouble understanding what is a fun gameplay aspect/mechanic versus what actually needs to changed/tweaked.

I do think something needs to be done, however I just don't feel like any of the 5 options really nail it on the head.

The reason I think it needs to be changed is because this is basically an issue between the rich and the poor. Well the rich have MF on their godly dps/def gear already. So the whole swapping issue isn't for them.

Well the poor realize that good gear is already expensive, let alone trying to buy that good gear WITH MF on it also is prolly not gonna happen.

For this reason I don't feel like the poor should have such an easy, maybe minor inconvience (clicking on some items/smaller inventory), alternative to having high MF. Having good gear with MF on it should be something that you have to work for, not some easy way to bypass that but yet still enjoy the benefit.

So I think I like opt 2 I guess. The least bad option I guess. Def not opt 5, cuz just swapping out a shield for a weapon for a boss, or changing weapon to life leech b/c of reflect should not be punished. Just my .02

My interpretation, "We don't see anything wrong with MF balance or MF swapping, but we need to drastically redesign how the system works".

I dissagree with any of those options they have suggested for item swapping. My suggestion is that you can only change your items quickly when in town just like skills. If you are in hostile territory then there should be a delay of 3-5 seconds between swapping any items. The first item swapped would be immediate and take effect immediately. Only after that item is there a 3 second delay.

This would make the most sense, and would male people happy. But then again, it's work to implement, and makes the game easier ans more enjoyable. Which means blizzard wont do it. Those retarded fucks think the only way to change this game is to nerf the shit out of players. That's the only change they know how to make. Im really damn mad at blizzard right now.

Best option is if enemy life total = 100% apply magic find on hit if not 100% don't apply. But I guess they can switch after first hit though...

This way in order to get magic find you have to have the gear on from the start of the battle. Can't beat a boss down to 5% then switch.

Though I haven't found magic find very useful for anything other that white monsters. So this is probably the last thing they should be worried about.

Yeah, me too but we all know that isnt going to happen. :p

If I had to guess which option they go with, it will either be the NV getting removed when swapping gear or using the lowest MF of last 5 mins.

QFT

They have no idea what fun is... they're clearly too close to the project, or too inexperienced to handle the project.

ok, cool. even if the strength and vitality are lower than my current weapon?

I think they want to keep some sort of opportunity cost to equipping a MF set. If they added an armor change hotkey without changing the system in some way, it'd completely devalue all the items that happen to have alright stats with MF. Why buy that when you can just get a cheap blue with a high MF and swap that in?

I'm not sure I like any of the options they give, but I can somewhat see the approach they're taking given what they've listed as options.

As long as you have enough vitality to begin with, you'll gain far more DPS from a higher weapon DPS :)

As someone who has spent all his gold and time on making a good dps/mf set (it's my only set), the quick-swap option would definitely devalue my set, but i'd prefer that over any of their other options, which still devalue my set in varying degrees.

Here is my prediction, they add an armor change hotkey, but using it will remove any stacks of valor same as changing your active skills.

This would be perfect, imo.

Yeah that was kind of my issue with it as well and probably one of the reasons Blizz wont add a hot key. I am too lazy and it takes too much time for me to bother getting two sets and swapping pieces on the fly. I just run with 1 set that is DPS and MF.

Thats the only negative aspect to adding a hot-key. It makes DPS/MF items go down in value which tend to be fairly expensive atm.

I think the best option is, they should just leave it as is. Let people swap gear manually if they want. Its not a huge issue.

I was also referring to the opportunity cost of having to click and switch the items manually. I think they want some sort of price for the convenience. I think DarkSaturn's prediction would be great for me as well, but I'm fairly sure that most of the people whining now would just whine more about that, since right now people can have their MF set AND the neph valor :p

It's not a huge issue, but if you read the complaining in the battle.net forums you'd think it was the end of the world!

I don't like this as a HC player.

I have a shield in my inventory that I swap on when I need it.
