Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Getting real old for all you "Elite" players telling the rest of us that we don't know how to play the game. We voice our disappointment at the higher repair costs and other nerfs which really hose over the more casual players and that is all you guys have to offer.

Sorry, some of us don't have hyper reflexes or high lvl items to give us an edge. We just want to be able to enjoy the game we paid for, not to become some "hardcore" gamer to brag over and berate those with lesser skills.

I don't mind grinding for gear and gold, but when the damn repair costs is overwhelming the ability to gain said items and gold then something is majorly wrong. Blizzard has made a game that was fun and turned it into either be "Elite" or give up playing cause we're too badass for you.

Screw you Blizzard! :(

Um.. you don't know there's town portal and you can repair your gear at any time?
Why would I carry 3 sets of gear on me? That's stupid.

Did you not play D2 at all?:confused: If you didn't then I'd understand your complaints and mark them as valid.

If you did...uniques didn't drop like candy in D2 like some people are making it sound....and I had a nearly maxed MF sorc.....Or if you played ladder and didn't play retard OP builds (cough hammerdin cough) then you were in the same position you are in A1 inferno. You'd have to grind grind grind to get gear to progress in hell.

Ah the hammers in, I remember trying that out, he was fun when I played LAN with my frIends with hacked characters (increased run speed/mf/stam/exp charms). He was bitch to use in act 2 with the narrow tunnels of the worms.

NO ONE is allowed to complain about the Maggot Lair unless you've played a Skellymancer. Holy shit

After having gotten a chance to really play the patch last night, i must take back some of my earlier criticism. Looking back I acted like a spastic retard who just had his cookie taken away, and it was purely based on speculation to boot. Once I played the patch, i realized all my qq was (mostly) for nothing.

3 bad/annoying things in the patch, imo:

1. They went a little overboard on repair costs, but we'll learn to cope.
2. Chests are kinda lame now.
3. There were a SHITLOAD of "Reflect" modified packs, which as a wizard cannot solo no matter what i do. I had to bring in my tank buddy.

Honestly I didn't notice the vases/etc nerf. They were more specific than i realized. In certain areas there are A LOT of vases, these are now only holding gold (think skyrim dungeon and those urns)... barrels, racks, corpses, piles of heads, piles of bones, etc were all still dropping worth-while loot, imo (whether or not my MF (161% w/o NV stacks) was effecting it).

I got 2 upgrades to drop last night, one for myself (nice MF right with int/vit), and one for my barb buddy (9% life, 60+all resist, bunch of other stuff), plus LOTS of items which i've been turning around on the gold ah from anywhere between 10k-400k. The increased drops seem to offset the over-zealous repair bills a bit (that is, if you don't mind playing Auction House Tycoon 3 ^_^).

As others have said before me, 2 cool things stood out:

1. They fixed gems. YAY i can combine these now!
2. About 1/3 of the drops i got (after reaching 5 stacks of NV) were rares. It felt like i was swimming in loot, from Act 1 no less, and they seemed mostly ilvl 61. I got some ilvl 63's, and some lower, but the loot actually felt tuned appropriately.

Anyway, this all just goes to show me that i need to play more, read less, and most definitely stfu with the QQ based on patch notes.

Carry on fellas :)

In case nobody knows this.. any blue that is ilvl61+, should be salvaged and not vendered for the most profit. The inferno essences sell for 2k+ on the AH(and they go fast). Most of these blues vender under 1k so its worth it.

Thanks!! This will help combat the increased repair costs.

I still remember the days when necros had a 30 minion per summon cap. Those were glorious days. 90+ minions = THE LAGOMANCER:D:D

I feel like this would be most people's opinion if they didn't overreact to every little change in the game. Kudos to you for admitting this :)

Ahh yeah, the "glory" days of early D2. Still get a chuckle when people call D3 a beta, they must have not remembered how broken D2 was at release. I think the worst bug was where sometimes if you died, you'd still be alive, but the game had you flagged as dead, so you couldn't leave the zone or attack anything and the only way to fix it was restart. Pretty sure they didn't fix that until months later.

edit:
3. There were a SHITLOAD of "Reflect" modified packs, which as a wizard cannot solo no matter what i do. I had to bring in my tank buddy.

Get something with Life on Hit (wand, amulet) and just switch when you see one of these packs. Even with only about ~500 they should be manageable.

Fighting mobs with Reflect using my wizard is like committing suicide. Had to ensure I have Diamond Skin on when I'm attacking them.

The only thing my necro was good for was corpse explosion. I was really useless solo. I could't kill cows in hell, but when the first one dropped, boy was there chaos!!!

The patch helped a lot, actually. I still think they should replace item degredation on death with corpse runs, though...

Personally I think it's total BS that people are saying repair bills are too high. Stop dying. Also, you can still definitely make more gold than it costs to repair... cause people are doing it. Even casually.

I spent a lot of gold yesterday. I'm down in the 200k range maybe. I bet I could easily do a few runs and be back up in the 400-500k range within 2hrs.

You're also essentially saying that you're upset you can't casually (easily) play at the highest difficulty. Why should you be able to?

I have to agree, especially with the item drop buffs. I spent ~300k on an entire side-grade set to switch from gold find to magic find. By the end of the night, i'm sure i turned a profit with the items i put on AH. And, i was dying like a complete noob (i just found out that if there is a shiny ball above the corpse, that means it will explode lolol)

See that's the thing. Even when I don't die, I have to drop 6-7k in repairs every time i go back to town to dump my accumulated blue items. It was worse in ActII Hell because no gold was dropping compared to Act III. It just seems like the average players are getting punished for the gold-hoarding of higher-dedication players. Alternatively, I HAVE to try and sell stuff on the AH in order to gain gold at an appreciable rate, since drops don't sell for enough and less gold is dropping.

I consider myself a casual which means I don't grind the AH nor do I grind A3/A4. I don't feel like I'm losing gold playing/farming A1 at least...are you dying in A1?

In all honesty, all blizzard needs to do to quell the QQ is to remove the 5-6x modifier on wear and tear but penalize death, maybe just make it cost X amount of gold when you die...but I don't think their code allows them to do that.

It wasn't to punish gold hoarders. It was to punish the glass cannon builds that would die 3-5 times killing an elite pack and rapidly progressing through inferno via corpse hopping or just brute forcing a mob.

Granted, it IS blizzard telling people how they should play but punishing "gold hoarders" is not what it was meant to accomplish.

I was referring to the lowered drop rates of gold and items. Personally, I actually think it is an anti-inflation tool. Look at it like this:

Gold is created by each game client in the form of gold drops and item drops that are sold for gold to the merchants. This gold is then part of the greater economy via the AH.

There is, however, only one source of gold destruction (removal from the game) in the main SP game: repairs.

Part of Bliz's management of DIII is the AH and the prices for items. If they let it go unchecked, prices will get so high that eventually anyone taht did not get in ahead of the curve will be forced to grind (not what Bliz wants, since they WANT people to use the AH), utilize third party gold sellers (also the opposite of why they created the AH) or quit. Thus, they need to manage the IG economy, and that includes anti-inflation measures.

As far as I can tell, in total, there are only two TOTAL sources of gold destruction: repairs and the cut Bliz takes from IGG AH sales. So they increase the repair costs. It's a tax, pure and simple.

So what they did with this patch was take a major shot at inflation. They decreased the amount of gold entering the system, and increased the amount being taken out, effectively decreasing the amount of currency going around (in relative terms at least).

I know WHYthey did it, I just think it sucks in regards to the WAY they did it. Personally, I would have increased the cut they take from the AH sales, but I think that would have been much less effective, so, blegh.

Ah makes sense. I just know a lot of people are bitching about the repair cost. I still think i t should be a static fee per death instead of what they are currently doing

Good times. I still think my charged bolt sorc was the greatest lag machine ever...level 33 charged bolt, 300%+ increased cast speed. Your rig can handle hundreds and hundreds of individual charged bolts crawling everywhere, right? :D

I would agree. I think it is a multi-pronged attack at multiple issues in the game though. Two of which are inflation and trying to reduce corpse run/brute force attack gameplay.

Does Blizzard usually tune their games around/against a select few people who are "exploiting" gameplay mechanics?

I cleared from Zoltan Khule to Seigebreaker last night on Act II / Act III Hell difficulty. I think I died twice, and my highest repair bill was ~1800 gold. If you are getting hit with 6-7k repair bills in Hell you are doing something wrong.

Not in my experience. There are usually FotM builds and sometimes they get nerfed. The IAS nerf was pretty big, but honestly it seems like it was pretty OP. IAS just scales better and better, having 50% IAS is huge.

Depends on gear? I'm all yellow, and I think I read somewhere that yellows cost more to repair?

Didn't say highest, playing at Nightmare Act IV with the same gear that pre patch I was able to do quite well, now post patch I am getting boxed in and raped. Not all of us Dallows are in Inferno, there are lower lvl characters that are finding it harder to build due to the changes. Get off your high horse dude.

Spend 100k gold on the AH and you will be steamrolling Nightmare. I think that's why everyone is saying "stop dying" - Normal, Nightmare and even most of Hell are not at all challenging if you pick up a few decent pieces of gear off the gold AH. It takes five minutes, it's not expensive, and you can flip the pieces back again once you get new stuff.

Depends on gear? I'm all yellow, and I think I read somewhere that yellows cost more to repair?
Yes, rares are more expensive. But all of my gear is level 50+ rares so I don't see how you can run up a repair bill literally 5x what I was spending unless you are dying constantly.

Maybe my character is just vastly overpowered for Hell, I don't know. I do have a 700dps 1H.

Isn't Nightmare like the second difficulty level? You're having trouble with that? Sorry dude.

Yea, I was nearing the 50% mark for IAS

I'm unsure how to fix it, my gear was pretty well planned out. I guess it's time to farm instead of jumping into inferno.

Which changes are you speaking of that breaks nightmare?

If you are having difficulty in Nightmare mode, you might as well quit now. You are doing something very wrong. I'm not sure I used a single health potion until I got to act2 Hell (Wizard).

Rethink your play-style or get better gear.

I didn't have any problems on my Wizard until Hell and I wasn't even trying to kite. I was just tanking mobs + pewpewing them down.

I'm glad I stopped playing this blizzard nerfing bullshit game. Hopefully everybody will realize blizzard just takes all fun away from the gamers with their constant incoming nerfs. We basically take it up the ass with this shit!

Obviously this was intended to weed out the glass cannon builds. This game is a solo farming game, kill fast, pick up loot, same shit over and over. Let us enjoy fucking playing this dumb down version of Diablo. If we want to down Azmodan in 15 secs who the fuck cares.

Originally I hated this game because of the shit loot system and no excitement in the game. So I said fuck it I'll just keep playing, farm a lot of gold and buy good gear. And blizzard fucked me in the ass with this latest patch. Let us enjoy this shitty game without your over done nerfs, god damn blizzard!!!

This is not no mmo dungeon based game with different char builds, specs or what not. It's a fucking hack n slash. Attack fast, kill fast, loot fast. All the chars in this game do the same shit. I'm done getting fucked in the ass by blizzard :)

Quivers weren't touched. 12% is low on a quiver.

I lost about 20k dps and this was simultaneous with the nether tentacles nerf. I'm all for balance... but making sweeping changes that completely destroys your gameplay experience is too much. If I'm not enjoying my character anymore, then I'm done. Was hoping 1.03 would motivate me to play more but it's done the opposite. The xbow I paid 13.5 million for is now worth less than 4 mill due to the IAS nerf. The most mind boggling decision ever was for Blizzard to touch weapon itemization. Stupid stupid stupid.

My barb can faceroll inferno now... just need to spam the button for revenge and afk watch the NBA finals. Not very fun though. No real motivation to progress either since I've already cleared inferno. Sigh.

EDIT: Not sure how it double posted when I edited...

re: quiver, thanks, didn't realize those weren't touched.

What was your DPS pre-patch compared to post?

re: quiver, thanks, didn't realize those weren't touched.

What was your DPS pre-patch compared to post?

Without sharpshooter... Went from 74k to 54k. Weapon IAS was nerfed pretty hard (a lot of stuff was nerfed way more than the 50% in the patch notes).

IAS had itemization budget issues (the classic example is rings... 15% ias dwarfed the other DPS stats on rings). IAS on other pieces was a minor issue (amulets and gloves for example can roll much higher in the other main stats / crit stats vs. rings).

IAS on weapons however... was a NON ISSUE. It did not jeopardize the other stats in terms of DPS budget. +DMG and +%DMG were very competitive (and better most of the time depending on base weapon speed). Their decision to underbudget IAS on weapons was simultaneously stupid and it wrecked weapon balancing (i.e. now blues with +DMG and +%DMG will largely be the best items unless you get a similarly good roll on rares with IAS as an afterthought). I thought they'd have some common sense and not touch weapons (like not touching quivers)... but dear lord.

I'm just waiting for them to realize how good +Crit Damage scales. Oh boy, better be careful before investing in that too!

What barb skills do you use? My barb is doing anything but facerolling inferno...

The same thing most Barbs use I imagine. Frenzy, Leap, Ignore Pain, Super Saiyan, Revenge, and Warcry. He has about 900-1050 resist all and 9500 (not sure on this one) defense with warcry up and 35k hp. Nothing fancy. As long as revenge doesn't go on a dry spell it's pretty derp.
