Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

No Intel_Hydralisk some of us, as hard as it is for you to believe, never got a decent drop from when we made our characters until we either:

1. Bought gear off the AH which is boring as hell and shouldn't be part of the core game play. Should be where you go to for the last piece you want; not what you need.

2. Wear level 38 - 44 rares into Hell Act IV / Inferno. This is what I did until I quit somewhere in late Hell Act III as I realized that 14k HP wasn't going to cut it and playing spreadsheets is boring.

3. Spend real money at the RMAH which is even dumber than going to the gold AH above.

I know you have said repeatedly that stuff level 38 - 44 dropping in Hell Act III and IV was psychological and not truth but it is what it is. That's all that dropped for me until this patch and now I'm trying to figure out if I want to try an elemental resist set or MF set or pure dps set. Before I got absolutely nothing but level 38 - 44 gear from Hell difficulty and was miserable / ticked off.

I'm happy that they fixed whatever they fixed, but I remember just fine what it felt like to play 140 hours on my main to gear up my alts that I may never play. Kudos to Blizz for fixing the drop rate. They should be commended for that.

What I find funny is that nobody has talked about how retarded the crafting system still is. You're max lvl? Excellent, spend 40k to make a shitty POS that you salvage since the vendor will only give you about 1.2k for it...and 9/10 times it has crappy stats on it...excellent!

Didnt they reduce the crafting costs on the latest patch? I wouldnt know as it isnt out for european servers yet.

Todays patch helped a lot. Though crafting is somewhat worthless anyway with the price of items on the AH being so low for similar gear. Special crafting recipes are the ones usually more worth it.

yes they did, i just finished lvling up the blacksmith and jewler to lvl 9.
then i did over 200 gem combos, because i've been saving them just for this price drop. blacksmith is actually at a high enough lvl to make my lvl 60 monk better than equipped pants.

Good. I have been hoarding gems (not crafting) and randomly some crafting materials for some time now, waiting for this patch. :D

Refer to my previous post: Color of an item does not determine whether or not you're "getting drops".

At this point it's psychological now. If we recolored all items to be white but kept their stats, people would be shitting a storm about garbage loot yet no stats were changed.

Also, I've stopped playing too; although for other reasons. And I don't make illogical incoherent nonsensical conclusions based on the coloring of the words on an item. Also, it's such an obvious regurgitation of everyone's belly aching combined with the 30 hours to level 33... way too much trolling going on now.

K, didn't really want this to turn into a dog chasing its tail kind of thing. But don't focus so much on words verbatim, when I said I didn't get any legendary, I agree color is really not the point. It really never was, its all about stats. There should be some correlation between the two.

Anyway so basically I said I didn't get any items of a certain "caliber" in over a 100 hours of gameplay.

Speaking of gems, does anyone have any flawless square emarlds for trade? Ill trade any other gems for them. Looking for like 20 or so.

Any one else think the repair bill is crazy high..I mean almost 30k now to repair thats just dumb.

Yeah, mine is about 40k to repair fully destroyed. Its going to be hard to actually make gold profit just from running through quests and gold from kills/chests. Everything will be going towards repair costs now.

The name of the game now is, try harder to not die and if you encounter mobs you cant kill, better leave game and remake than spending thousands on repairs.

Honestly, I welcome the change. Gold needs retain its value and paying pennies for a death isn't putting up much of a incentive not to die. The mobs are now easier and after playing about an hour of the new patch, the game is starting to feel better.

Yeah I do agree with you. They did make the game easier so....dying should technically be a little less now anyways. Maybe that counters the repair cost issue. Think of it this way, hardcore players cant die at all so.....at least when we die its only a gold issue. :p

I agree. I did an Act I farming run to avoid high repair costs from dying so much in Act III, but I went ahead and tried Act III anyway. It's amazing how much the damage reduction helps. Little things that would kill me are much more forgiving now, like those heralds of pestilence didn't kill me while they were offscreen launching their arms. I even went back and cleared all 3 floors of the keep depths. Those soul rippers are WAY less threatening now. Out of the 3-4 elite packs I encountered, only one of them caused me a major repair bill. Back then, I would have bailed at the sight of one of those dudes. I think I'll just suck it up and deal with the increased repair costs. I might wanna start from the beginning of the keep depths quest so I can get some loot from Ghom, then work my way to Siegebreaker.

Hell, I might make an attempt to continue past Siegebreaker and see if the soul rippers in the tower levels are tolerable now.

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but the crafting system is currently the most profitable way to play the game:

http://www.twitch.tv/trumpsc
http://www.twitch.tv/kingkongor

Several streamers on there making upwards of 100 million gold per day by crafting 6 property gloves, chests, shoulders and legs for viewers with a fee of ~100k each (plus their mats). Plus these can roll the highest end modifiers in the game, so even crafting them and selling them yourself can be extraordinarily valuable. You can buy the exalted grand patterns for a few million each, which isn't that much of an entry fee.

Also, for those that didn't know, you can't craft the best possible items in the game. A top crafted rare would have less stats than a top found rare. The total "stat budget" is less on crafted rares in other words. That's not to say you can't craft good items, not at all, just that they restricted crafted items from being totally on par with dropped ones.

Just took on an elite mob Act I inferno... total gold gained about 2k, total repair bill 40K.... :(

Im mixed on this new patch. The repairs costs are annoying. I think I am now in the negative for the day because I keep havign to repair for 40k.

Inferno got easier, but I still die pretty fast. Drops are better, but Siegebreaker is impossible for me to kill as DH now because of the reflect damage and lack of IAS now....

Hmmm.... How are we supposed to kill siegebreaker if any hits we do to him kills us.... Stack life steal? Retarded.

Havent been able to play since Sunday. With the inferno nerf and higher upper bound drop rates per act, do people still get the impression that RMAH is manditory to clear inferno?

Why would the RMAH be manditory ever? No...

And ya inferno got a pretty big nerf in some areas and buffs in others, Act3 I no longer die in 1 hit, but I still die in 2-3 hits. I welcome that change though. They made siegebreaker have relfect damage and I am really confused on how I am supposed to kill him now.... Hes impossible to kill with the ias nerf and reflect dmg... Thx Blizzard.

Anyone feel like doing some coop mf goober runs together or some butcher runs?

Had I known these were on the AH, I might not have spent all my gold. I guess I'm going to be farming a bit to acquire several of these patterns. I did get the Exalted Grand Dread Shield Plan to drop for me though (so I didn't have to spend money), but I wasted practically all my crafting resources and gold (I built it pre patch), and all it ended up having that was remotely useful was a lot of magic resist. I guess though if you can make money from this stuff though, it might make life easier.

So, I'm finally level 58, almost to the end of Act 3 Hell, and this is my character:

48 hours played  I am very slow apparently.

I just snagged these for 120k gold. This seems like a good price given the stats, no?

I just had Trump build me 5 chests and 5 legs. during his review of each item he really liked 5 of them.
I put all of them on the RMAH without a buyout.

*crossing fingers*

Hello, is it possible to go through hell and inferno without buying things from the auction house?
If not, is gold picked up through standard play enough to buy decent gear from the auction house?

I am just curious because if gold farming is neccessary to get me through hell and inferno I will probably drop this game since I do not have enough time for that.

I play a wizard btw.

Wizard and DH are the easiest to play... you don't need to farm gold or touch the AH. It is possible to get through both without ever touching the AH. Yes, you will get an abundant amount of gold to purchase items on the AH if need be... hell, you could spend less than 50k gold on an entire set and get through inferno... Items are fairly cheap--only the items that are the BIS and weapons with the highest dps are overly priced. You can also, sometimes, get lucky and find an item for cheap that may be worth 10x its value.

I have been through a lot of patches, in many different games, but 1.0.3 is a complete disaster. The IAS nerf took 8k of my 29k DPS, but more importantly its makes the game feel slow as molasses and boring. Add to this that zombie bears are now broken. The increased repair costs are insane.

This whole major changes going on makes the game feels like its still in its early beta stage, lol.

1.0.3 fix certain things, but breaks others or doesn't yet solve certain balance issue. It'll probably take many more major patches to iron everything out.

I slightly understand the IAS nerf...but what is the reasoning behind the increase of repair cost?

probably another tactic to force you to use the auction house, this time to force the broke to turn to it for repair money

What the heck, the Act III Inferno boss Ghom is ridiculously harder now. I wasn't able to beat him and decided to bail early due to repair costs.

They nerfed the content in Inferno so it's easier, aka more beatable, but made the repair costs higher so people have to beat it legitimately rather than graveyard zerg over and over to kill elites.

Basically, the long and short of it is, if you are dying over and over, you

A) Aren't using the right strategy
B) Don't have good enough gear

I think the problem here is that they've tuned this more like difficulty in WoW, which was frequently a gear check, and people aren't used to that. You aren't gauranteed to be clearing Inferno with average gear, and people are upset.

This is just my speculation though since I haven't gotten to Inferno yet. While there seems to be a huge # of people complaining about repair costs, there were plenty of people clearing most of Inferno pre-patch, and it's easier now - so I'm not convinced that it's game design if you're still dying over and over.

I am not a huge fan of the AH. Have I made some money off it? YES! but I feel, with my time restraints, seeing as I have a life, wife and a career. I do enjoy this game, just wish it wasn't so based on the AH.

I feel I am being penalized for not wanting to use the AH for every upgrade.

Does anyone think that Blizz is going to "loot" these legendary weapons and place them on the RMAH for more profit? That is my whole thinking behind the RMAH.

Blizzard has repeatedly stated that it wouldn't do such a thing, so it will be a big move if it does eventually happen.

If they wanted to have a real pay2win model, they would have formally opened up a store for items. the AH/RMAH is designed for players to make exchanges with each other. This kind of reminds me of those conspiracy theories where Blizzard intentionally hacked their own WoW servers to sell user information to gold farmers. The real Blizzard tactic is to make a star pony for $25 and roll in the cash.
