Diablo 3 Beta

Gotcha, thanks for the info. Looks like it's mostly rune combinations at later levels.

Don't know if this has been posted but you can assign any skill to any of the 6 available buttons. In-game you have to turn on Elective Mode and then it functions just like the skill calculator on the D3 website were you can just use the arrows to move between the different types of skills. To me that was what finally set D3 over the top because it opens more than just rune combos up but total glass cannon/tank builds. I'm personally looking at a Monk healer with as much CC/debuffs as I can manage. Elective mode took it from pretty cool but limited builds to OMFG TAKE MY MONEY!!!! in about 3 seconds for me.

I finally got around to beta-ing last night. Played a Wizard and Monk. Shit the monk is mean. I enjoyed it. There is some super corny dialogue though. Wow.

I do like the little lore update button and listening to Deckard or some random explain something or other. Way nicer than reading pages of that shit.

All in all, i'm looking forward to it. Going to try the barb and witch doc tonight!!!

Interesting! Looking forward to trying it out on May 15th!

The guy who talks about the squills or something is hillarious

Has anyone in the beta played & enjoyed the Barbarian? I never got into the other Diablo games before, but in MMOs I tend to enjoy the big, powerful, melee/tank type of characters. I see a lot of people saying they like Monk for melee... anyone think Barbarians are fun though?

I'll let you know later tonight. I will say this in the early levels the monk felt OP relative to the wizard. It may have just been the skills you're starting with though.

Yeah, I know about Elective mode. If you played the beta earlier on, what they call "Elective mode" used to be the standard. They changed it to the way it is now by default and shoved Elective mode into the menu as an option.

The barbarian is fun he just doesn't have a lot of interesting skills at the lower levels. It's pretty much just leap, cleave(with the rune that makes everything explode), and maybe the spear skill which is pretty much Scorpion's "Get Over Here".

From my experience in D2, and base on my play in the beta, I don't think healers are gonig to be needed.

The barbarian is a fun, visceral class. Enemies literally fly off the screen when you hit them. Monks are basically the D2 paladin, they have heals, high avoidance, and eventually get auras (mantras). Barbs just facetank it all since strength directly adds to armor (damage reduction) and barb DPS.

d3 isnt very intense, disable 1 gpu and ur good to go. thats what my friend does with his 6990.

I just dont feel like theyre taking D3 as seriously as the originals

They aren't, it's a definite different feel and narrative. I'm not sure if it bothers me yet, but there is zero horror element, at least in the Beta.

blizzard is more towards pleasing the general public now days. i never play d2 so cant really comment on how its changed but wow changed tremendously over the last 3 years from epic to not so much.

Yea even though you were killing zombies and such, the art style or something never made you feel like things were dark and gloomy, or how horrifying it would be to have to slaughter all these civilians-turned-zombie. I'm hoping they'll throw some surprises at us at some point.

It definitely feels more like a wow/diablo hybrid, but I've come to terms with that.

It's not the D3 we dreamed about, but it's going to be a blast regardless.

It's a little bit of an issue if you're running 3 monitors. My brother has two highly OC'd GTX 480's (watercooled) and in nvidia surround he was getting 30-40 FPS while my single 7970 was getting 90-110 fps. It's quite a difference.

SLI doesn't work in D3 and neither does Crossfire(at least the beta) so that is 1 GTX 480 vs 1 HD 7970 :p

Also, I can't find D2 so I guess I'm gonna play through some Titan Quest to get ready for D3 :D

Not sure why you guys insist on judging the game based on a beta. I didn't find Diablo II to be "horrific" until much deeper into the game.

The beta is Chapter one, act one. It's setting the stage, teaching newbs to play and getting you caught up in the back story more than anything.

So would you say it's the D2 equivalent of the Blood Raven quest?

I can see both sides, there is a slightly different vibe to D3, but I agree that it's way too early to judge based on the beta.

I'm choosing to remain optimistic about the finished product.

If I remember correctly, there wasn't much more than little demons, zombies and yetis leading up to the Blood Raven. But ya - it's very similar to that trip. It's just enough to whet your whistle.

In D3, thus far, I've encountered abominations that explode when I kill them and little baby demons and other crap spew out from them. I've encountered wretched mothers that literally vomit zombies. I've encountered undead that continue to come after me, sans legs. I've helped a blacksmith kill his own wife because she's about to turn into a zombie.

I'm sure it'll get more "horrific" down the road.

And yet, it doesn't explain why the masterminds decided to fuck up the skill UI.

Is it really that hard to make a PC friendly UI? Beyond that, the game itself is fine.

I know, right? The Skill UI is pretty dumb and obviously made for scrolling on a console.

At least it isn't as bad as Skyrim's UI. In D3 they at least got the character/stat/inventory UI right.

I'm judging based on both previous games. I think D2 fared the same fate, as you say, especially early on. I liked the foreboding feel in D1 right off the bat.

At least in Skyrim you can mod anything you see fit.

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but for people who ordered the Collector's or boxed copies,

http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/download-diablo-iii-now

This is the link to download the D3 client right now.

There's no point of downloading this if you ordered a boxed copy. All it is is the data that will be on your disc. You still have to wait till midnight to start installing. It's gonna install at the same speed whether the data is on your hard drive or on a disc.

I see a very valid point for downloading it. I rather have it on my HDD and install it at much faster speeds than reading it off a cd-rom.

I'm all for a better UI, but I don't really see the limitations of this one. Can you be more specific in your concerns?

It just seems cumbersome. I mean look at all that screen real-estate used to configure a single skill. I think it would have been better to arrange the UI to allow the configuration of all the skills in 1 window. Sure it will be cluttery, but more powerful in the long run. Hell, the last 1/3rd of the screen is almost useless. Then again, I guess it shows off the artwork of each skill/rune :p

Aside from it being a little too large (as was already mentioned), I really don't see a problem with the skills window.

Well they could have put the info right there in the screen instead of making us mouse over every skill/rune to see what it does. There is more than enough room. To me that just seems to be extra steps to access information for no reason. Not that big of a deal but still a little annoying.

I dont mind it either. It is definitively aimed at the more casual audience, but I don't have a problem with that. Skills are now broken into more categories and it spells everything out fro you. The previous one was just a grid of icons. This one is more organized, a tad big, and you have to "change the page" to see the next categories which has people screaming console. Though yea i do wish the runes listed info straight up.

Been a bit since I played the beta. You're annoyed that you have to click on something for it show the details?

If they had all the details wouldn't it just be more cluttered? It's cleaner this way. I like clean.

Its pretty basic so far, and to think that there are going to be major changes in 2 weeks is a bit far fetched. I hope they tweak a few thing here and there. Like they aren't going to change some of the really ridiculous dialogue and voice acting. Its not that bad I guess, but some of the stuff is rough. Whatever.

I still need to play the demon hunter. The witch doc takes some getting used to but he can be fun. Not sure how you'd survive without dogs though. I got shit on when I tried to use horrify.

The barb feels like a barb should. He wrecks shit. I'm excited to play in a group. I think teaming up will be legendary.

I like how when you kill enemies, they drop their weapons on the ground n shit. Simple I know but I think its cool.

I dunno, that is all for today i guess.
