Development Thread for ATI overclocking tool - v0.0.19 out

The 3D auto detect aint working on my system...

My configuration:
4.1 Cat
AMD 1400 Mhz Thunderbird
Qdi KinetiZ E
Windows XP all patches
Gigabyte Radeon 9600 Lite (400Mhz/200Mhz def)

It doesnt swithc to 3D speeds (440/240) when i enter a 3D aplication (yes, i setted it up right)

Don't forget, if you run too close to the ragged edge sometimes the chip degrades... you'll wind up with future problems.

my reasonin is the following:

) hardly ever a app (like atitool) can guarantee you that the NEXT app/game will not put more load on the card.
There always MIGHT be some app/game around which demands even more, generates more heat etc.....so that"s the reason to set it like 5 or so mhz LESS.
Btw. not even rthdribl is the last word in "OC"..there is a section i 3dmark03 whic is even more sensitive than rthdribl.
(Nature section, the water) Just as ONE example.

) running the card extremely on the edge without knowing whether the next app puts more load on the card is a risk. if you run your card "right" at the edge i can IMAGINE it may shorten the lifetime of the card, memory....and/or produce weird effects especially THEN when you least expect it.

) i already once shot a card (an old 8500 that was) with a moderate mem overclock. All of a sudden garbage on the screen.....3d apps acted up etc....card/memory smoked up.

If you use 400 mhz (core) as a reference and say: "ok, i downclock my card..say..8mhz to be on the safe side".....8mhz are 2% of 400mhz..and i can tell you that neither you nor anyoe else will see/feel any real world decrease in performance by downclockng it 5 to 8 mhz. However, you might see a difference when all of a sudden the card cranks out while playing your fav game and you need a new one because running it on the edge too long killed it.

(ANd btw. i dont think i am talking BS because, as said, i already killed a 8500 once and i also killed a stick of crucial system ram...and both of these were VERY mildly overclocked, not even worth to mention)

Edit: New keyboard......d*mn my posts read like i just learned to spell...horrible :)

Guh, I'm having some problems. When I try to find the "Max Core" or "Max Mem," the program crashes and gives me the following error signature:
Code:
AppName: atitool.exe AppVer: 0.0.15.0 ModName: msvcr71.dll
ModVer: 7.10.3052.4 Offset: 00002eee

I'll give the full technical report if needed. Any thoughts?

I'm trying to grab the file, but the link is timing out on me.
Can anyone email it to me?

Let me know.

Thanks

What exactly are you doing to cause this? I would like to see if I can replicate it.

Actually, I haven't done anything. I run the program from my D:\Downloads\Tweaking\ATI 0.0.15\ folder on my Windows XP SP1 computer. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. Here are my specs.

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2000+
RAM: 512MB PC2100 DDR
MOB: Asus A7N8X-Deluxe
VID: ATI Radeon 9500 NP
HD1: 60GB Seagate
HD2: 160GB Maxtor
OS: Microsoft Windows XP w/ SP1

I've been running it with no other programs running so it doesn't interfere.

would really appreciate a mirror for that tool....cant d/l from this site for two days now.i..site is down

The site is currently down so the link is not working. I apologize for the delay.

We are working on getting the fastest connection we can for you all, the day the new Catalysts came out we got hit HARD :D

In the meantime all you torrent users can get the file here:
http://www.syntheticvisions.net/softmod/
(still being tweaked so be patient)

Take care all ;)

so the torrent isnt goin for me and the site is down so anyone lucky enough to have the latest file can drop me a PM or catch me on AIM sometime plz

so far the tool has been spot on for my 9500Pro ~380/312(the core kinda changes as to what "mood" its in for today  ), tested out overnite for stability in the tool and 3dmark2k3 stressed for 2hrs at those speeds, im lovin it so far

Ciao W1zzard,

have downloaded and tested today, but tool is starting the "Find Max Core" with an error message:
Init of findMax: Subsequent images are different. Please report this bug.
After this the card will be downclocked.
Drivers are unlocked (Omegadrivers 2.5.04) and working correctly.

What is going wrong?

Could you possibly put in an option to temporarily disable the detection of 3D applications?
I run some games windowed and if switch to a background program it seems to confuse the overclocker. It starts beeping like it does when it detects a 3D app running, but it beeps a couple times and during that time cpu usage seems to jump to 100. Annoying when i'm trying not to get killed in cs :p

note that it doesn't do the beeping thing as soon as i switch out of the windowed game but later on. maybe thats not even the cause of the beeping, but i think it is.

why don't you just run it overclocked all the time then?

I got the new ATI tool and tested it and let it find the max core and it just kinda kept going and going and went past 430 and i just stopped and went back to default, i got scared.
Im on an ATI 9800 Pro (The Official ATI one) with stock cooling.

Nice prog W1zzard, just a couple of suggestions:

Could there be a dialog box displaying some of the data from the artifact test? Like "Artifact type X found at location XYZ after 25.4 seconds at 365/340, lowering core to 364" or some other type of info on what the find max core/mem is doing? Its a little irritating having to watch the seconds count down then quickly glance at the clock speed to see whats being changed. Also would be nice to see what steps the clocks are taking instead of just seeing the one number over the slider change. This could be toggled on and off w/ a Raw Data button or something like that..

Also along those lines, could you also make the seconds countdown in a fixed area, not a long text string? I'll sit watching it seeing how long its staying artifact free then I'll see the text shift like it was going back to 0 but really its just the seconds countdown adding another digit, from 99 to 100 etc. Just a minor annoyance.

A nice ATITool logo instead of the plain white info balloon in the system tray would be nice too, heh. :D

Again, keep up the great work.

Try opening the 3D View window befor eyou press Find Max Core/Mem, and see if the error still pops up.

I have asked him that before :p He said he was trying to think of a good name before he made an icon for the program.

Crodaccio, im getting the same error message. when you click find max core does it instantly have loads of yellow dots appearing everywhere in the 3d view.

I cant seem to get the auto detect for mem or core to work? The buttons are greyed out and I get the following error when I start the exe file

I am also still getting the same error as the poster above me. I am logged in as Administrator, so that is not the problem. On my two machines formatted recently and software configured the same it works on one but not the other. Also, version .14 worked on my laptop (ati 7500) but .15 is also giving me this error. There is also a corresponding message in event viewer with the following:

Event ID: 7000

The ATITool service failed to start due to the following error:
Access is denied.

Any ideas?

Make sure you unzip the file completely into a seperate folder before running ATITool.

Put the program and all associated files on your desktop. If I place everything in the C: drive, I get the same service 2 error. Sorry if this has already been suggested, I just came here, and only just saw this thread.

Whenever I try to use the max core, or max mem, or scan for artifacts, I get this damn memory reference erorr message. I don't think it's my ram, but I've got a couple of extra sticks of ram that I wasn't using, so I'm going to try them. Think it's the vram?

Sorry about that long white bar at the bottom, I'm too lazy to cut it out.

I am unzipping it to its own folder on the desktop of the machine with the problem, and I have tried unzipping it to a few other places also. It works fine on my other machine.

error with version 0.15

start program, click on find max mem and gives me this error

Init of findMax: Subsequent images are different. Please report this bug.

hit ok and then it starts to render the yellow image on the red background.

also, on finding max mem the slider just keeps moving down, the find max core works right by slowly moving it upwards as it tests.

running
win2k sp4
sapphire radeon 9800 pro 3.10's
A64 3200

Everything at stock

Unzip it TO the desktop. Not to a folder on the desktop, TO the desktop.

I don't see why it would make a difference, but I just tried it a few times on my laptop.

1) I downloaded .15 and saved it to my desktop. I extracted all the files to the desktop. Same message, tried it twice. Removed files from desktop.

2) I extracted all of the files to a folder on my desktop and it suddenly works.

3) I tried extracting all the files to the desktop and it now works there.

4) I am baffled. There doesn't seem to be a pattern.

try running without forced aa/af - if you have it enabled that is ..

aa and af are set to application selection since there is no off selection.

I guess thats the off for ati drivers?

yup .. you happen to use omega driver? just talked to a user who used omega and had problems .. no problems with normal catalyst

Ok, this error is not the fault of the memory. I might need service pack 4, however, service pack 3 always crashes my system, must be some hardware config problem, but since service pack 4 includes all previous service packs, I can't install service pack 4, so can anybody find another way to get past this error?
