aight thanks man, is the best way to check for artifacts to play games or benchmark?

I find a combination of both works best, some benchmarks work out features which are not common in games, but may be in the future. It's all about personal preference on how long you test for artifacts, and remember what you bought the video card for: playing games(for quite a few). Settle on a number, play your fav's casually like normal, and if and when you see something odd bump it down a mhz or two.

that depends what you're testing for. rthdribl is awsome for detecting core artifacts but then again.....I've sat down and played NFS: Underground for a couple hours and got a couple anomalies after awhile.

Yes, a combination is best. Make sure it "clears" a few benchmarks first and then give her a go in your games. I can get my card artifact free in 3dmark2001 but when if it artifacts while you're gaming it's very annoying indeed so make sure.

aight i just ran 3dmark01 and 3dmark2003 and didnt notice anythign, im off to game now

PS. 19,500 in 3dmark2001 IM SO CLOSE AHHH

Maybe u didn't read the readme of this tool........it says non-ATI cards can be checked for artifact with the help of third party overclocking software.......

anyway........anyone else know if this tool support artifact testing on DX7 card and xabre series card?????

i dunno if anybody has suggested this or not.. too many threads to go through.

i wonder if it would be difficult to perhaps add a moving light source in the rendering window? maybe more than one..

kinda like in 3dmark01..

though it probably isnt needed.

Crodaccio, im getting the same error message. when you click find max core does it instantly have loads of yellow dots appearing everywhere in the 3d view.

Yes, have them !
But have this problem only in this test....no problem with games or other benches.

same here, it not a problem due to the card being clocked to high, it's software related somehow just can't figure it out yet. i thought i found a solution but didnt, i'll post here if i do figure out how to fix it.

:D ...hoping in some answer from WIzzard or some beta tester.....

is it possible to get the source code for you project?

sorry if the question has been asked before, but i wasnt about to read through this entire thread, that would take days :D

No. You have to have PS2.0 to test.

it's not a tweak program. ;)

Exactly, don't loose sight of its original intent. Otherwise it may get blown out of proportion and become unpopular before it even has a chance. We all love this thing for what it is, lets try and keep it like that and just hope W1z keeps thinking up way to improve on what we've already got.

Hey how do I overclock with these things? and wuts artifacts ?
I'm a complete newbie in overclocking...I wonder how much increments of core and memory I should go up by?

source is not available - however if you have a certain question feel free to ask.

pixelshader 2.0 (renders the reddish background) is NOT required to run the rendering ... it just helps a lot to detect visual errors on 9500/9600/9700/9800

no worries about getting unneccessary stuff added .. i dont want to make another tweaker with tons of useless registry settings :)

Awsome, good stuff.

At least your head is still in the right place and you're right on track.

I have one question for you W1z.....maybe you know.....maybe you don't.

If I just leave the "Find max core" or "Find max mem" running for an extended period of time (say, 8 hours +) will it eventually settle on a certain clock and never move or will it keep dropping? You'd think that it'd find something eventually that's over the stock speed that's fine but who knows. ;) I'm just wondering 'cus I have left it going overnight and the results it turns up are FAR lower then what I actually use to game artifact free. For example, I've got my core on my 9800XT sitting at 430MHz and it's 100% fine all day long in rthdibl and games. If I leave ATITool going overnight, it finds a way to tell me that only 420 is acceptable.....and that's only a pathetic 8MHz over stock!!! It has done the same with the ram, telling me that I should have it 10MHz lower then what I've found to be perfectly fine.

I'm not sure if it's worth taking/using those lower numbers or not. My scores'd drop but I guess it'd mean I'd just be THAT much safer. Could it simply be detecting artifacts that are impossible to see with the human eye and compensating for those? If so I think I'll stick to my old numbers.

Any thoughts/words???

I got the same numbers with my 9800xt. Im thinking that the XTs are just stable overclocked pro versions. I think that XT speeds (stock) are quite enough for ANYTHING these days anyways.....

That's what I'm starting to think too. I'll bump it up to 430/800 for a 3 minute run of 3dmark to show a friend or something but I almost never have it OC'ed when I'm gaming. I'm sure when I get the rest of the mods done to my case It'll help a little and I'll find that happy medium. For now however, everything's fine at 412/730 and I don't care what anyone says. :D

to be honest im the same, ramp it up for the occasional benchmark but run stock almost all the time when playing games. i've even used atitool to underclock in 2d stuff to reduce heat and extend the life of my card a bit, its a softmodded 9800se so i'm a little concious of taking care of it incase it decides to go tits up one day.

i was wondering.. if there would be anyway the app could be integrated into the desktop.. kinda like a wall paper with functionality?

what would that require?

I got an error when running it

stopservice2: overlapped I/O Operation is in progress...

however that is not true I'm not running anything

still having same problem

init of findmax: subsequent images are different. please report this bug.

i did really like the changes youv made though w1z

the new method is much better and the settings bit is really good as well, not over the top stuff, just useful options. spot on.

just looking forward to getting it working now, might have to resort to a reformat soon :)

Downloading now, gonna give it a go and see what I've got to say. Even though I'm sure it'll be nothing but praise. :D

If that error comes up, just restart your computer and it should start up correctlyh.

which drivers are you using?

w1z, when i go to "2d Profile (loaded on Startup)" i select default. because i have to before doing the 3d one.

after that, i go to 3d, and select a profile, and it says "Atitool has generated errors, and will be closed by Windows.

You will need to restart the program.

this is with:

nf7,
2100+,
ati 9800Pro,
dx8.1b,
catalyst 3.5

when checking for artifact da comp lags like hell...is dat like stressing the whole complete system? even my cpu temp increases lol
