Destiny 2

I finished the campaign last night. The story was pretty good and seemed to flow well with the missions being fairly varied and fun.

It's a little odd that a few staples from Destiny 1 are absent until you finish the campaign. Due to that it's almost best to go through and finish the main story missions as fast as possible then explore afterwards.

The story mode is very easy with the AI being dumb. This is a common complaint among reviewers. Vanilla Destiny 1's story missions were pretty easy as well. Strikes, the raid, hard mode missions, that was where the challenge came in. Bungie started making harder story missions for Taken King and Iron Throne. I think Bungie removing the ability to replay story missions at a higher difficulty level was a mistake. Replaying missions on harder modes was fun in the first game. Even if you didn't get good rewards the added challenge was fun.

So kids and I had a blast, they enjoy it a lot... I spend a lot of time teeth-gnashing after a while because it's like watching Scrat in a room full of nuts. I can't get them to focus on speaking to the next quest giver because they squirrel off after some baddie every time one pops up. Have to have PS + to play together, which is crummy. I'm a PC gamer, this crap is a given in our world.

On a good note regarding cooperation, one of the boys realized I don't pop shields and barriers randomly and started using them. They work great to funnel enemies into tight spaces so you can rocket them into oblivion.

Lots of fun!

Lol. That sounds like 11 year old boys alright. Reminds me of watching my nephew play games when he was that age. Glad the three of you are having fun with it.

I clicked thru the guys channel and he seems to be a huge Destiny 2 hater.
So yeah idk how valid his opinion is.

So far the game is fun, played for 3 hours last night. Hit level 8 and had just made it to titan, spent alot of time doing public events and all the missions on earth I could lol

I asked a friend of mine who has been playing Destiny 2 since it came out and is someone that I consider a "Destiny junkie." I think he's put something like 2000 hours into it so I defer to his expertise. ;)

I have no idea how many hours he's already put into D2 but probably near the top of the heap.

I asked him about some of what's been mentioned in this thread like the SP campaign, replaying, and a few other things and here's what he said:

You can replay three missions a week at high difficulty by visiting Ikora and meditating. Doing all three will award enough tokens to get a reward package from Ikora.

Not sure what people expect from a Destiny story. It is easy, but it's not a shooter in the vein of a DOOM or Wolfenstein, it's much more Diablo or Borderlands in that it's not really about the story.

D2 has a much better story than Destiny did because it actually has a story campaign,
but that shouldn't be the reason anyone plays the game.

It's like six hours, and less if you have an XP boost. It's all about the grind that opens up after you complete the story. That's the reason people play the game for 2000+ hours.

Note the bolded comment. I chuckled because it's true.

I think he's basically right. The campaign basically gets your feet wet.

My friends that played the hell out of the first game are loving this one. The only complaints they have relate to balance in the Crucible, which I don't give a damn about.

Whats all this auto aim nonsense I'm hearing? Can it be turned off?

No one knows yet.

On the PC beta we all found out that the way the aim assist was working was people could go into any and all situations with a controller or especially an XIM4, keep auto aim on, and be gods amongst men against anyone else. In PVE it really doesn't matter, but in PVP it's definitely an unfair advantage and a bit of an irony considering it's usually the KBM people dominating the controller people.

This needs to be refined and addressed before the full game comes out on the PC.

I think we all know it comes down to this: If people liked the first one they will love this. Past that I can see it bringing on some new fans and especially some people on the PC that never bothered with the first one because they didn't and don't any consoles.

The trick is going to be: How big does that get and how much staying power does it have? Bungie has gotten pretty good at this.

Hopefully they just cut auto aim out or make it so you can choose to use auto aim on a controller but only play against other controller users. Selecting no auto aim would let you que against m+Kb users, would fix this and still give controller users that need auto aim a place to play pvp

no matter how successful the game is on console I think it's a valid question to ask how well that will translate to PC...PC gamers are more finicky and just because something does well on one platform doesn't mean it'll transfer over...I have no doubt that the game will do well initially but will it have staying power?...there have been tons of games that do well in the short term but then player count drops hard (The Division being a recent example)

I think the easiest solution to auto-aim is just to make it like PvE or like the console versions of Destiny 1. It's there, but it's mild enough where pad players would still be a massive disadvantage. Whatever experimental PvP auto-aim code they used in the beta was atypical and potentially even a glitch.

It's all up to Bungie. If they follow through with solid support and compelling content (and fix annoyances) then this game should be fine on the PC.

As long as the PC version is good and Bungie supports it I think the game will do fine. I doubt it will have the level of playerbase as the console versions, but I don't think it will die out either. The problem with games like The Division really is the lack of good support and content. Destiny 1 would have died within a few months on the PC for the same reason.

Bungie has announced that one of the modifiers for Destiny 2's current Nightfall, Prism, is not working properly; specifically, the element "is not persisting on screen as is intended."...additionally, it's found a "more severe issue" with the Momentum modifier that was meant for use with the next Nightfall....as a result, Bungie plans to bring back the Prism for a second week to stop the Momentum issue--whatever it is--from impacting players...it noted that these bugs will be fixed in a future hotfix, but there's no word on how soon that update might arrive

It is common with most online games like this including MMORPG nowadays. Story missions are piss easy. The difficulty comes from end game raids. A lot people only care about glamour and story. If these games are to difficult it will drive away the bread and butter. The casual players.

Good, so consoles are beta testing to ensure an even better PC version is delivered.

Do your eyes bleed with the console version?

Long story short I seen a guy with a character name of Eye Bite in the game Rift and that person was right for those first starting out to play that game in 2011 so much going on with the screen with Rift Raids in that game yet it still looked good doing it.

Personally I don’t enjoy watching console gameplay even on Twitch, the fov is like I’m watching someone zoomed in at all times.

FPS also is a bit hard to watch without context, and with no control over movement it can get nauseating.

This game is already making me play longer and later than I initially plan each day in order to get all the weekly rewards.

At least I will be ready to tackle the raid this weekend. The first few tries at a new raid are always fun.

^^ Somehow this is how it happens, folks. ;)

I'm going to be casual with this game as I can screw 10 hours of day grinding stuff while it will be replaced with the next DLC level cap. I spent way too much time in Destiny 1 probably about 100+ hours in the first game which is alot for me even. I'm sure people had 1000+ hours but what is the point? I spent time farming for armor upgrade materials it wasn't much fun a little fun but when the DLC came out all of that stuff got negated with the light level cap.

I got about 150 hours or so out of the first Destiny and felt like I got my money's worth out of it easily. I fully expect to get at least that much here on this new one as well and that will be fine.

The light level, I thought, was put in for people who had maxed out existing characters to try and provide some kind of incentive to keep playing and grinding.

I don't know how they did it, but like I said, I know two guys that have put 2000 hours (?!) into the first game. Beats me.

One of my friends probably has about that into the first game. He played from release, then stopped for a bit before Taken King, then picked it up again. Then he convinced me to get back into it after Rise of Iron and get a couple others to buy it. The four of us probably put another 80-100 hours into the game between the release of Rise and a couple months ago. We'd play 3-4 times a week and spent like 6-7 hours a day playing on the weekends.

[Destiny 2 is a Joke] 12,000 thumbs down 14,000 thumbs up
I've never played Destiny but it's a loot based shooter, like a FPS Diablo game right? Those type of games tend to be more about mindless grinding and loot, not about high amounts of strategy and skills. There's nothing wrong with some devs making games in the low skill mindless grinding loot based genre, as long as they are not falsely advertising their game to be something else. Looks like the reviewer's main complaint is that the game isn't a different genre - just because the camera perspective is FPS doesn't mean it's going to play like a typical FPS shooter.

An hour later since you posted this it's 14K up, 13K down. Wow.

Except it mostly does play like a typical FPS shooter. Certainly the core gameplay mechanics are absolutely meat and potato FPS and very good at that.

It does have some "Diablo style addictiveness" to it all to be sure.

If you ever get into a Raid or certain other circumstances like that, trust me: It's not mindless and it does take some skill to say nothing about if you get into PVP situations.

How do raids work for matchmaking does it search for randoms? I know about clans but how do you find people for clans.

The "story" play through of Destiny 2 is basically a tutorial for the the rest of the game. The first mission of the game has your guardian lose all of your powers and abilities, and you have to work your way back up. I can understand the confusion for someone not familiar with the game, or who hasn't spent much time with it yet. But, after he tries to run a nightfall, if he ever gets that far, and gets his ass handed to him over and over because he's not using his abilities or learning any game mechanics, he should change his tune.
Nightfalls, like other later activites in Destiny are the actual gameplay you're paying for. The video is simply click-bait with a title contrary to public opinion to generate views and ad revenue.

Destiny 2 PS4, PS4 Pro, And Xbox One Versions Compared

A newly published technical breakdown of Destiny 2 compares the game's console versions, looking at PS4, PS4 Pro, and Xbox One...Eurogamer's Digital Foundry did the heavy lifting and found that the PS4 Pro is the "ideal platform" for Destiny 2 right now if you are after the best possible experience from a technical and visual presentation standpoint

The PS4 Pro version can output at 1080p or 4K, and it delivers better texture filtering, the report said...players on PS4 Pro can also expect artwork that "revolves more cleanly at oblique angles," due in part to a greater number of higher-res sample points...additionally, Destiny 2 on PS4 Pro apparently has better shadow rendering quality, though no matter what console you get the game on, you'll see a nice image...

As of now there is no matchmaking for Raids. They are testing out a form of matchmaking for the Nightfall called 'Guided Games' this week and if that goes well it might be added to raids, but don't get your hopes up.

The best thing to do to find a raid team is join a group at https://www.the100.io and play with them. Likely the group will have a clan that you can join. It is a great way to meet other players and get the high level stuff done if you don't have a normal group to play with.

hopefully they can add matchmaking before the PC release...sucks if you need to join a group or clan to play the Raids
