Fair, but I'm just providing additional detail for those interested in the GeForce Now option. I attempted to use it a few times and was disappointed at 1080p60 because it automatically runs fullscreen. I was not able to enjoy it at my monitor's native 1440p. I was not overly impressed at how it looked on a Shield on a 4K TV, and I'm not sure to what extend either the TV or the Shield can upscale effectively to improve image quality.

I had really really high hopes for Control after everything I'd read about it shortly after it released... but yeah, the story is really, really lacking. It's much more about atmosphere and vague statements, and I never really felt any emotional impact from the story. When I first started playing, I was under the impression that it was one of those "there's much more than meets the eye going on here" stories where things seem obvious but are a cover for much more twisted or unusual things... instead it's all very bland.

The combat mechanics are fun but are ruined by the totally overpowered launch ability that when upgraded, makes a joke out of almost any enemy. Then there's the tacked-on loot system where you end up spending more time just cleaning out your inventory of useless crap you'll never use than actually putting together interesting builds.

I don't hate the game - the shooting and movement is mostly really enjoyable and I appreciate the attempt at making something a bit different in terms of story and environment, but it just landed with a dull thud for me. I made it to where the "Investigations" DLC sector opened and kinda sputtered out.

I finished the main campaign and had intended to get the platinum trophy, but I just got bored of playing the game. I am not going to spend money to get the DLCs, and will never play it again. It was fun, but it played just like Infamous: Second Son, which was a lot more fun, and actually had a good story.

The Foundation was pretty good but AWE definitely wasn't. Aim for The Foundation if you acquire it at a low price.
 
Bought during the Steam sale I refunded the game I was expecting more game is just sterile environment couldn't get into it.
Played only a half hour looked up the boss fights on Youtube didn't see anything I liked.

I never ended up buying it even though I have considered it multiple times to see the graphical tech used. I just always reminded myself how much I didn't like Quantum Break and other Max Payne styled games. I beat Quantum Break yet don't remember it at all.
 
I'm enjoying it, but can't run the DX12 / RTX on my 1080ti. But I did start it that way and it's pretty amazing with that on, but I'm used to over 60fps and just couldn't handle the framerates. On DX11 it's good looking but nothing very special, but I'm loving the Oldest House and how it reconfigures quietly behind your back in some sections.

Have the same video card and experienced the same issue w DX12. Absolutely loved the game once the combat clicked. There were some rather annoying bosses due to spikes in difficulty but enjoyed the weird story. I wish there would have been more story telling through videos and cut scenes and less through folders (i.e. reading). Made me want to go back and play Quantum Break.
 
Isn't Alan Wake in the same universe also? Got that for free on Epic but haven't played it yet.
 
Just got the game ($20 on sale on GOG. What timing, I was in the middle of watching X-Files when it came on sale. What a fitting combo.). First time seeing RT (have a 3080). I only started, I like the reflections in the windows and floors so far. Looks natural and realistic enough. Love the setting and atmosphere so far and the mystery of it all. Just my type of setting.

My one gripe, having been gone for 10 years from PC gaming and only doing PS4 gaming now and then in the interim, is seeing shitty low-res/quality textures in video games.. still. To this day. This game is beautiful and very well textured, but then you come across some posters and papers scattered around that seems like a 320x320 JPEG saved 20 times over. And sometimes you will have a clean copy of one paper, but then near identical content random piece of paper with super low res right next to it, or the text on the fire extinguishers being so blurry to the point of being unreadable, but the 1st aid stuff right next to them being very sharp. Same with the large art portraits in the hallways. 20 feet away it is a mushy mess, and you need to stand <5 feet away for it to clean up. Why is there no in-game slider to adjust the LOD threshold for these things?

Other textures like the round wallmounted light in the bathroom or the red metal tube/canister things not being round enough, with very clear edges to the polygons, making things look more hexagonal than round.

I mean, I get all these things add up in terms of horse power requirements. But you can be so highly detailed today with all these resources, but such primitive things are still so low quality these days, I am disappointed. I didn't even imagine I'd have these feelings in 2020 when I came back and moved from a nVidia 6800GT and PS4, to a 3080RTX.
(everything is cranked up to the max in settings).

On a more positive side, I am incredibly surprised at DLSS. I legitimately cannot tell a visual impact with it on and off and I've stood in various spots in game trying to judge aliasing and hair and other details as an A/B comparison, and I see no difference, at all. I just can't. Maybe if it was pointed out to me in a video zoomed in 400% with stills, like in Digital Foundry videos I'd go "ahh, I see it now.". But as just someone who is playing the game and is usually sensitive to quality change and wants to play everything at max settings... I just can't tell the difference. And I get nearly 2x the frame boost on top of it (at least so far, in the starting area where there's no heavy action). I go from 70-80FPS with everything max and DLSS off, to 120-130FPS with DLSS on.

I am so far keeping DLSS off though, so I get "used" to it with being off, and then once frames will start dropping due to enemies and effects later on, I will turn it on, and play with it on from there on, and see if I notice any visual difference.

I agree on all of that (gameplay and scenery). I played through with a 1080Ti, so had to turn off RTX to get smooth play, but it's still a great looking game. And there is a setting to cleat up the textures a bit (much less pop-in), but I forget what it was...

But all in all, pretty amazing game!

Any chance you could try to recall the setting for me? Is it a a setting in-game or editing a .cfg file or something? Because my in-game settings are maxxed out as is
 
I'll poke around later and see if I can find it... But it may have just been because I dropped to DX11 and turned down a few other settings to improve framerate, now that I think of it. Less RAM needed= less streaming texture pop-in!
 
I am just blown away by this game. I usually don't like games all too much but this one is definitely something great. Amazing graphics, facial details and animations, fun gameplay, great progression pace in terms of when/how you get new abilities and weapons, intriguing storyline. The works!

I did turn off MSAA and now the game looks even better! MSAA just applied a blurry smear. I like the looks of the game even more with MSAA off now.

You weren't running dxr on a 1080ti. It doesn't support it in hardware.
 
And DX11 also prevents it. If I run DX12 I have most of the options available, but it chokes the framerate.

I picked up a 3060TI from Best Buy.

Last time I played control was back in Sept. timeframe and I used a 2080.
I could run it at 3440x1440 with max settings and DLSS on which reduced the internal rendering resolution (for greater performance), but I don't recall it being perfectly smooth with the 2080. I remember thinking this game needs one step higher card to be butter smooth.

I fired up Control with the 3060TI and darn if this little card isn't in the 80FPS range + range and this is with DLSS OFF!!! Feels smooth as butter.

Surprisingly beasty little card for ray tracing!!!

Are you sure that's not also RTX off? I've seen tests and the 3060TI gets 40fps avg in 1440 with RTX and no DLSS so your 80 is literally impossible.

If you are claiming 80 fps at 1440p with no dlss and ray tracing with all settings maxed then you have literally lost your mind. A 3060 TI is not even remotely capable of that. Your card is less than 5% faster than a 2080 super and I played the game on a 2080 super and even with dlss on quality I could not always maintain even 60 FPS with ray tracing and all settings maxed at 1440p. I had to put dlss on balanced to maintain 60 just in the area I was testing in. Plus all anyone has to do is Google and look at benchmarks to see what you're claiming is utter insanity.

Sorry to burst your 2080 super bubble.

But I just checked with the 3070 FE I have installed right now in my computer (I got both a 3060TI and a 3070 from bestbuy and validating they both are good cards, and it's a hair faster than the 3060TI FE, but generally the same performance -- and yes -- max settings, no DLSS, and 3440x1440 = 80-90 FPS range.

Okay - I figured out the problem. Everytime I go into the video menus it keeps automatically turning on DLSS. I uncheck it - then its back on when I check again. I don't see an apply button, so not sure why it's doing that - but it appears I can't actually turn off DLSS for some reason at this point? So I don't know what it does without DLSS. Perhaps framerate tanks - but that is RTX on max with DLSS and the highest options for internal res selected for DLSS.

Sorry for the misdirection. It wasn't intentional.

Yeah I knew something was wrong and you had me wishing I was at home so I can link to benchmarks of your card from reputable sites. But I did look on a Tom's hardware review that showed the 3060 TI with Ray tracing on getting 53 FPS at just 1080p. And with dlss quality mode getting 62 FPS at just 1080p.

Yeah, all maxxed and no DLSS I get around 70-80 FPS average on my 5600x and 3080 @ 1440p...
120FPS w/ DLSS on, with a non-noticeable slight degredation to image quality. But you'll not notice it during regular play at all. And the frame times are quite a bit lower as a result of the higher frames. So things feel snappier/smoother, even with G-Sync factored it.

I'm a big fan of DLSS (as least when implemented well). I really hope it picks up steam, because almost none use it right now.

I just checked the settings multiple times. Unless something isn't actually changing in the background that says it is in the settings menu - then I don't know what to say. Someone else with a 30x0 card try it and report back. I have the nvidia drivers from 1/26, and the game is fully patched in the Epic client.
 
So the 120FPS that Furious Nerd reports on his 3080 with DLSS on is in the generally appropriate range for a 3070 with DLSS on to be in the 90 FPS range.

Furious Nerd - can you turn off DLSS? I can uncheck it, but it always is rechecked when I come back in to the settings?!?

Agreed on DLSS, when it’s done right it’s pretty damn great.
 
native is always better then DLSS in terms of image quality but Nvidia has really done a great job with DLSS 2.0...I believe Death Stranding is the only game where DLSS actually looks better then native

Gamer's Nexus - did a review and showed that DLSS 2.0 sometimes looked better on Cyberpunk 2077 on than off. The AI added detail that sometimes wasn't present at native res -- but it had a few artifacts from time to time that the devs will still have to sort out.
