Concord (PVP multiplayer FPS)

To be fair I don't believe this game would of done much better without the pandering.
Isn't first descendant literally this game, but pandering to an audience that actually exists?

The latter option would likely be the smartest business decision. But they have to deal with the hideous characters as well. No one is going to want to buy cosmetics for characters that look like potatoes painted up like Easter eggs.
Are you sure? Servers still cost money. The tax write off might be the best approach.

If the pandering only went so far as to add pronouns it would have done ok IMO.

The problem is in a hero shooter the heroes are the game. They ruined the heroes so they ruined the game.

The heroes look like the people they're pandering to, and that's a massive turn off to everyone, including the people they're pandering to (they won't admit it, but it is).

Someone should mod this game so that all the weapons are replaced with virtue signaling protest signs
That would be hilarious

That was quick. I really, really hope EA keeps this in mind for their upcoming Battlefield game. The hero game market is just flooded with copy/pastes.

Online shooters all look the same to me. What is even the difference? You can have heroes in a looter shooter, right?

Hero shooter is more like TF2, a pure shooter with heroes as characters with unique abilities and whatnot. Then you have looter shooters which are like Borderlands or Diablo (well, slasher) where the main gameplay loop is to get better loot. I'm sure you can mix the two genres together.

Oh, no...won't someone think of the executives who made these poor decisions.

It's hard to say. The game's reputation is so far in the toilet, you might be right. The game will need a significant redesign in order to succeed even in a free to play / cash shop business model. Especially given the saturation in the market. But, given it was released I don't know if the tax right off is really viable / available. I don't know enough about that.

I just can't figure out why they decided to release this with the $40 price tag given the awful feedback it got even before launch. It seems like had they released it for free it would have maybe done better. The characters were absolutely hideous looking, but the game still had decent graphics and the mechanics seemed decent.

Who knows, maybe the tax write off and not having to pay for the servers really did make the most sense financially.

Still, it blows my mind that all these big AAA publishers signed off on these shitty hero shooters when the market is already so saturated with free choices.

They did have pronouns. Each character had their pronouns displayed at the character select screen bio.

lol new note on the charts

There should be no problem with the tax write-off as long as they kill any and all distribution of the game and any sort of support/servers while refunding the game. If they make it as if the game never existed it should be fine. It's basically the same thing Disney did with the single season of Willow they put out. The show was released and destroyed for how bad it was. Disney then pulled it from Disney+ (the only place it existed) and used it as a tax write-off.

But, given it was released I don't know if the tax right off is really viable / available. I don't know enough about that.
Well, if disney could write off Willow, then it is probably an option here too.

Well they do have 50 concurrent modern audience players so there is that... 50 posts a day will solve everything.

Holy shit. That is a huge loss of money for Sony.
At least its breaking other types of records.

Surely there is a large contingent of neurodiverse gender confused pansexuals who want their avatars to look like this?!

Everyone: after all these colossal failures maybe the games industry will finally stop pandering to this bullshit non-existent "modern audience".

You can just smell the soylent oozing from these posts.
My favorite so far due to the cognitive dissonance. She just did an interview ranting and raving about the Ghost of Gamergate.

There are a zillion games just like this one, just better. It's starting to feel like the mid 90's where every developer had to make a fighting game. 80% of them were trash in spite of some huge budgets for many of the flops.

Hey, I for one liked Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game for Sega Saturn. A lot of the fighters had terrible controls and a decent premise though. Primal Rage with decent interactivity and less fart attacks could have been epic, same thing with Time Killers. ClayFighter is pretty amazingly terrible but still amusing, although I didn't play any of the sequels.

Bloody Roar and Battle Arena Toshinden II were my jam.

Sadly, I played almost all of them good and bad. I had a posse of friends that seemingly didn't want to play anything but vs. games. Generally speaking, I'd say Capcom and Namco made the best ones and anything using actual video captures tended to be trash. At least minus Mortal Kombat. My low-key favorite under the radar fighter was always the Sega CD version of Eternal Champions. The original one kinda sucked, but the CD-based sequel actually had a phenomenal game engine with lots of combo routes and finesse.

To be fair, that one was a success for 20+ years.

Sony's barely made it off the runway and had to turn back for decommission on its maiden flight, so to speak.
Very true with a valid point.
