I like how my old 7950 with a 2-3x advantage in raw theoreticals is barely able to beat a 750 Ti here.

This might be a great game to test Zen with or other cpu reviews.

Good, all you need is a $1000CPU to pair with your $200 AMD GPU .

Joking aside, I do expect this to run better in the future for AMD.

System Specs

i7 5820K @ 4375MHz - Cache 4125MHz

32GB DDR4 2666 15-15-15-35-1T

980Ti @ 1455/7500

W10 Pro

I tested without MSAA to try and figure out how badly this game is CPU bottlenecked.

I tested 1440p with 4xSSAA (= 5K) then was surprised by the results so I tested again using DSR as a sanity check.

Given the results of this test, I tested once again using 4xSSAA ontop of 5K DSR and finally was able to put a dent in GPU performance.

All performance data was based on CSV files produced by CIV VI benchmark.

Apologies for the enormous (dual monitor) screenshots I simply couldn't be bothered cropping them right now

Does matter what LLAPI is used they will come across the same time frames to do either. Maybe a bit more with Vulkan actually.

Now on the windows topic, Windows 10 is still pretty much a beta OS, its been a year since I have been using Windows 10 and there are still many issues with it (even show stopper bugs). Eventually companies will go over to it, and more home users will upgrade to it or get new pc's. I know right now big companies are looking into going over to Windows 10 exclusively but its going to take time. Win 10 has been the fastest adopted Windows OS so far, but if they don't make sure things aren't more stable with it, its pick up will slow down.

Damn just last week came across an issue where I couldn't move the tiles around in my start menu, stupid shit like that shouldn't happen. A month before that my windows store wouldn't load up, tried all the fixes and none of them worked. Lots of irritating little things that just makes me wish that I never needed to go to Win 10. Another issue is with external HD's, Win 10 doesn't like them, I have had issues with Win 10 corrupting external HD formatting, to just not being able to recognize them or they power down after I leave the computer idle, and don't power back up when I get back to the computer and try to access them.

Well, my point here is that why does on need to blame users when you can blame devs ignoring those users?

ah ok I see what you are saying, Well its also comfort factor for the dev's, if they are used to Dx, they are going to stick with Dx. Vulkan is a best choice for cross platform apps, but why would a dev that knows their primary target base is PC driven want to learn a new API (for those few % sales)?

Also Dx12 has been out longer than Vulkan, Vulkan if it came out before DX12 would probably have a much stronger pick up rate than it has now.

Yikes. Time to upgrade the wife's computer.
I was gonna man a 1050Ti to toss in her box for this game, but looks like it's gonna be a whole new build. She's a huge Civ fan.
Damnit. The old Phenom II x6 and 5770 has served her well.

Oh so the AMD funded patch to reduce Geforce performance using DX12 and async isn't released yet

Lol, hope not serious. You need to look at the news to realize AMD can barely even fund their own R&D let alone developers.

BF4 is how old? Nvidia performs better on frostbite titles so that funding to gimp the cards is really working.

Works perfectly for me. On modern machine's. My laptop has some issues and it's not that old, i737x0 generation.

most likely its software conflicts for me, everytime I reinstall Windows 10 seems to work fine, but as I install software things get messed up slowly but surely it happens lol.

Why are AMD's CPU performing so poorly in this game (independent of the GPU performance)?

Core count doesn't explain why an octacore FX8350 is only on par with a HT'ed dual core i3-6100..., or the fact that it's behind against most of the intel quad cores?

All of the features are not in the game. One of the main things I like to do with my nephews is to team up against the A.I. or in multiplayer. It's not yet implemented from what I've read. Has it been added? Maybe I was told the wrong information? If it's supposed to be in the game and not yet implemented, then I consider it to be Early Access quality. Where is DX12?

Nvidia and AMD will release more drivers for this game since the newest Nvidia and AMD drivers are broken in general. There are a ton of issues for Nvidia and AMD users for other games, flash, video, etc with the drivers from both camps. Both usually need 2 or 3 releases before newest titles get the proper treatment.

I haven't purchased the game yet because I learned awhile ago to wait for the paying Beta testers to report issues so that I can get a full featured product that works perfectly. For you and others that will be reporting bugs on the base game, and the upcoming DX12 patch; I commend you. Make sure that you report all of the issues so that I can have a great first impression of the game. I'm tired of paying full price for bugs. :)

With that said, when the game is feature complete and running DX12 fine, I will purchase it and drop 350 - 3,000 hours into it. Of course depending on if I'm playing a MMO at the time. ;)
Here's the thing though... how many people play Civ for multiplayer, or at least multiplayer exclusively? Enough to make it worth delaying the game launch? Almost assuredly no.

Same thing with DX12. It's a strategy game - high FPS is a bonus, really, not a mandatory feature, and with what we've seen in the past DX12 performance improvements are hit or miss.

I've got about 10 hours into the game so far and the only issue I've had is that the game crashes on exit to the desktop. I just force close it from the task manager and no other issues. Runs at a near constant 120+ fps, normally at 144 locked.

I'd rather slightly lower fps in an rts than deal with the random green flicker I'm dealing with in BF1 on my 1080. With game ready drivers to boot.

Can't seem to find any performance numbers with a 1050Ti. I would have thought that at least someone would have put a few words about Civ VI in today's reviews.

If you are running 1080p, going by TPU's graphs:

Civilization VI: Performance Analysis

and

MSI GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X 4 GB Review

Specifically, look at 4k (the game seem to be hard capped at 90fps) performance numbers. 1080 can run the game at 4k at greater than 60fps.

Now, compare the performance ratio between 1050ti and 1080. 1080 is almost 3x the performance of a 1050ti, but 4k is 4x the number of pixels as 1080p.

If we go by those numbers, it stands to reason that 1050ti should at least get 60fps with Civ 6 at 1080p.

VRAM usage is pretty close to 4GB though.

Thank you, good sir!

I was actually a bit disappointed by the graphics in this release.

Civilization V was used as a benchmark all across the gaming publications when it came out, because it actually pushed high end GPU's in the then new (sortof) DX11.

Not a chance Civ 6 will do the same.

My overclocked pascal titan hits ridiculous framerates at 4k with everything turned to max, including 8xMSAA.

Anyone with AMD cards, the latest driver and Civ 6 try it out yet? Hows the performance?

Seems they broke DX11 performance and visuals with the patch. I will try make a benching on my 1080.

Graphics Benchmark:
DX11 14.468ms average, 22.257 99th.
DX12 14.698ms average, 21.312 99th.

AI Benchmark:
DX11 17.24 turn time.
DX12 17.95 turn time.

99th is better in DX12. Average FPS is lower and the AI is slower.

You would think the AI would be faster in DX12. But like Warhammer its not the case. CPU game logic limits are even worse in DX12 than DX11 again.

You do guys realize that DX12 is the biggest bullshit MS. pulled to fool people into upgrading to Windows 10, mostly gamers thinking they will get better performance. Just revert back to Win7, enjoy DX11 especially if you do SLI. As far as AMD goes, they suck no matter how you slice it.

You don't have a clue as to what you're talking about.

For everyone AI turn speed is slower in DX12.

This is the interesting part. I was under the impression that turn time calculations were 100% CPU, and DX12 reduces the GPU rendering load on the CPU, so it should be the opposite.

I'd be very curious to figure out why this is the case.

Same applied in Warhammer. Both CPU limited battles and turns got slower in DX12.

This makes absolutely no sense. I would love a technical explanation for why this is. With the lower CPU load DX12 results in, there should be MORE CPU cycles available for the game engine, not less.

Maybe DX12 just winds up thrashing the CPU cache and thus making it less efficient, or something like that?

I haven't tested the new patch yet, other than the performance differences, are there any differences in IQ between DX12 and DX11?

Spent 260 on her birthday so she could have this game, and she hates it. Complains there are too many pop ups and her units get destroyed behind said pop ups. Well fuck. Shes back to playing Civ3 on her 1060

Lol. I'd thought at least she would like Civ 4 Beyond the Sword (widely considered the best of the series, and old enough to be very light on system specs these days) or maybe even the latest expansion of V rather than 3. 3 is ANCIENT.

She didn't like 5. I enjoyed 5, but it was also the first one I played.
What I want is a new Rise of Nations title. I still play the hell out of that.
