Chimp Challenge : Official thread

Havn't finished a new WU -- so that badge is OLD :D

Also, when you fold under team 33, you get better work units and your PpD average goes way up. It will also cure the common cold, male pattern baldness and ED, if applicable. :p

I've been looking for an excuse to get some Viagra. PERFECT!

I tried to do the bsel mod on my Optiplex 745's e6400 - no dice - was hoping to get a ppd boost with a 1333fsb :(

Is there anyway to hide the console windows when folding? I saw that EM could do this, but, it's not available from the site anymore.

Is there a way to pause the console or stop it and pick up where you left off? LoTRO won't run for me while folding.
Just hit control-c and the console will stop. It should pick up where it left off when you restart it.

Edit: Only when running one console.
When running two instances of SMP client you need to save the work folder and queue file in each SMP folder then hit control-c for each console. Before starting the consoles back up you need to copy over the saved work folder and queue files back to their original location. If you don't copy the files there is a very high chance you will lose all the work that the consoles had completed.

Welp, I've never gotten around to folding for [H], so I figured this was a good time to start. Got the clients loaded on 3 of my PCs so far: An E3110, X2 5000+, and a P4 3.4Ghz. I've built a new PC for my sons, it's an E8400, but it doesn't have the OS on it yet, so that won't be running till probably the weekend when I have time to mess with it. I know my contribution isn't much, but I figure every PC counts right?! :)

every bit does help!

And you will be in the top 200 (my guess) with all that producing after the chip challenge is over.

Fold on!

Talk about a bogart in the pernts department, just check out this [H]ardeApe character  (my bad :(, thats the [H]orde team 33 username in the Chimp Challenge )

Fold on [H]ardApe and let the best team win (team 33)

lol, i wish i knew where the other 66 cpu's i have folding for me are.

seriously.

Thank you all!

We would also like you to stick around and help find the cure with us after the challenge is done.

Fold on!

Been folding for some time, though not for team 33. The 2140 and 3200+ will likely stay on under my username once this is done though.

I wish I had problems like that. :D

well what concerns me is that 1) if someone suddenly were to decide that they were b0rged under my name without their knowledge, say at some company, then am i in trouble(?), and 2) that with 66 potentially outdated clients out there, they aren't operating very efficiently, and 3) that since i dont know where they are, they aren't accessible to the [H]ardApe ;)

Yea, #1 could be a problem if someone, or perhaps 66 someones, gets a little bent out of shape. As for #2, if they've been running as-is long enough for you to forget about them, I'd say they're doing fine.

To all our new friends joining us for the Chimp Challenge. I've been asked a few times now about badges. So here's the FAQ on how to utilize them:

http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1027699981&postcount=5

And for the cliffs. Click on anybodys [H]ardApe badge, scroll down to where you see one on that page, select a color, and follow the instructions regarding how you wish to use it. You have a couple ways you can add it to your posts, but you cannot add it into your signature.

Remember everybody, there are no stupid questions. We are patient and want to help. And if anybody dares answers a question with insults or screaming RTFM, I will personally rip their arm off and beat them with it until they die. And god help them if I don't get to them first, others around here are a lot less humane than I. OK? :D

Thank you all!

We would also like you to stick around and help find the cure with us after the challenge is done.

Fold on!

I won't be able to keep all the machines I've set up for the challenge, *BUT* check this out:

With any luck I'll have this puppy loaded up with 12 or so folding machines in time for next year's challenge.

Sweet! Nice looking setup. Farm in a box...

Thanks to everyone from the rest of the forums that stopped by to help us out for the Chimp Challenge!!

It looks like one thing we need to do for next year is get an earlier start. It would be nice to have have a [H]orde dropping points 3-4 days prior to the start. A good "rolling" start so we're dropping major points right from the get-go seems like it would be a necessity for this level of competition.

It's been fun though. Maybe we'll bring it down to a photo finish .

Fold-On [H]ardApes!

hey, I went from a single visual client to the SMP client under XP on the rig in the sig (xp not vista x64 though). I followed the instructions sticked in DC but the console says

completed 0 out of 500000 steps <0 percent>

I just installed this so its possible that its gonna take a bit to show me an update or something, but is this normal.

Yep.. that's normal... it should start showing some percentage soon.

Looks normal to me. After 10-15 min, if the step isn't completed, you may see a
message about it writing data to the disk. Time to complete a WU varies from
protein to protein, and of course depends on your CPU, clock speed, and how
many cycles you use doing "work."

Welcome to the fold!

Just checked my Celerator stats. I've still got about 1000 PPD in "lost borgs" turning
in points...:(

The good news is that [H]ardApe is going to mow me over in ~ 5 hours! :D

Fold on Mighty [H]ardApe.

Sorry for the three-posts-in-a-row, but on the [H] webpages, I noticed several new
members who have various versions of [H]ardApe as their username. Please make
sure, if you want to be in the Chimp Challenge, that your username is exactly

[H]ardApe

and not [Hard]Ape
or [H]ardApe_
or [H]ardape
or some other variation...

Ok, I promise no more posts tonight in this thread.

Fold on [H]ardApe!

Hey guys, I want to help out, but I think there's something wrong with my config. Here's a quick shot of what it looks like....The time never changes and it just says working.... indefinitely. You can see the config parameters up above I think. Let me know. Vista x64 btw.

Did you run the install.bat prior to running the client?
From what I can see, it looks fine. I'll suggest that you edit out the -config as you already have done it and replace it with -forceasm.

From the pictures alone, I do not see any issues.
Please post said rig's specs and we'll get right down to it.

It's just weird because all the screenshots I've seen people are getting updates with each complete frame, whereas my computer just says "working..." I'm assuming it'll let me know when it's done with the workunit?

Is your CPU pegged? How long has it sat like that?

It's pegged right now i just started again with the forceasm command. I'll let it run overnight and see if it finishes a workunit.
