BenQ G2400W

The Samsung definitely had better contrast than the G2400W, but not the V2400W. Maybe I just got a really good V2400W? I did find the colors more saturated on the Samung, though not overly so.

My only dislikes with the Samung were improper pixel mapping of consoles over DVI and HDMI, and the dark greys turned brown on it, making dark games from my 360 better on the G2400W. I also hated the OSD buttons because the writing is dark and they are a bit touchy.

Funny enough, though the G2400W had better color calibration than the 2493HM, as does the V2400W, but sometimes accurate doesn't mean vibrant.

Enjoy the 2493HM

ok, After I sold my G2400W I ordered both G2400WD and Samsung 2493HM so I could watch them between eachother and after doing that I sent the G2400WD back.

The colors are more attractive on the samsung. The G2400WD colors are redish if you understand what I mean and less atractive. The Samsung Also looks better. Out of BLB there was no difference. Both were good.

If you care about the colors I wouldnt buy the BenQ:s

I can only say that side by side the picture on the 2493HM looked more attractive.

I noticed that G2400WD was more vibrant than G2400W but still not really attractive for my eyes. I felt that the colors were to red on the G2400WD. The intresting thing is that G2400W didnt have this problem. I cant understand why they had to make it redish to make it more colorful. This was confirmed when I watched the screentests.

I am no expert on those graphs but as I see both G2400W and the Samsung show more accurate colors than the G2400WD (V2400W) and both show a less red picture. So it was not just that I felt this way it seems to actually be like that on paper also.

I have to say that I had G2400W and it is a great monitor and from the tests I did G2400WD is too. But both these monitors doesnt show a picture that is really appealing for the eye. G2400W cause of not enough vibrant colors and G2400WD because of to red picture. The advantage BenQ has is proper pixelmapping but this is not an important issue for me.

I just bought a G2400WD.

First impressions:
+ the picture quality is superb once you fix the colors (R-97, G-97, B-93)
+ really nice plastics, doesn't feel cheap at all
- the stand is really flimsy, any move makes the monitor shake
- it has a dead red subpixel that I wasn't able to fix with UndeadPixel or by gently rubbing the area
- with AMA on (which in my case is a must) it has horrendeous inverse ghosting on light grays

I'm going to return it tomorrow.

Just finished reading the whole topic.. :D
10e thanks for posting so much to this topic it helped a lot, but im still a bit concerned about the black bars (page 17 pics). Do they annoy much when playing? Could you post some in-game pics? That would help a lot.

Thanks

So i made up my mind and bought this monitor today! Seems great, no dead pixels and i got a special warranty, that if even one pixel is dead i get to replace to a brand new one!

So is there something i sould need to know about calibration and stuff, mostly using for gaming.

Thanks

The black bars don't annoy me when playing, especially on the PS3 because in 720p, you don't see them, and most PS3 games are 720p.

If you constantly move your head up and down you can see them "vibrate" a bit, but when you are not, they mostly just stay in place and are very inert.

If anything, they are probably most bothersome during movie watching especially with dark films.

Enjoy the monitor. It's a good good one.

Hi,
I think 10e should have his own thread... "Ask 10e".lol...

Anyways, my question is about HDMI. When you connect a console (xbox360) via HDMI to the PC monitor does the console see the display as a computer monitor or tv? In the console settings will you have the PC resolutions to choose from or will you get the TV options. (720p..)

Thanks 10e, i trust your opinion. :)

I'll propably order ps3 from amazon in the next few weeks. So far the monitor seems awesome, i can't see any problems with the viewing angles so it's perfect for me.

The Xbox 360 sees it as a TV over HDMI and a PC Monitor over DVI.

The only difference that I remember is that the DVI connection will show 640x480 as a resolution and the HDMI shows 720x480 in its stead.

That's pretty much it. I'm wondering what will happen when the rumoured 16x10 resolutions come? Will it have to be over DVI?

10e,
I'm pretty sure the new resolutions in the fall will work over VGA.. not sure about DVI. But if DVI gives you monitor resolutions now then I would assume it will be available in the fall.

I'm narrowing my choices for best 24" monitor for my situation. (xbox 360 gamer & graphic designer) Any insight on the choice?

Ok i got my G2400WD in today. Looks awesome and no dead or stuck pixels.

My olny question is about color calibration. I cant seem to find a good setup. Anyone have any recomendations to start at?

I'll finally be getting my G2400WD back from RMA from Buy.com tomorrow. It's aggravating that they just HAD to wait 7 stinkin business days to send my replacement back - I mean, come on, does it seriously take that long to look at it and send me my replacement?

Anyway, I was wondering the same thing. With the monitor I had before, I could find NO WHERE to modify RGB values? I suppose I'll mess with it tomorrow when it arrives.

To modify color values you have to be in "standard" picture mode.

Then you go into color, change it to "user mode" and then hit enter, and then a second time to actually go into the various color values.

They changed it from the older BenQs and made it a bit less intuitive. Not sure why....

Good luck with the replacement.

GREAT NEWS!

Got the monitor today, and WOW! That weird halo/ring effect is gone. NO Dead pixels (I was worried I wouldn't get lucky again)! Still tearing with the DVI input, but HDMI at 1080p looks AWESOME! I have to power cycle it once or twice, but then the tearing goes away. I'm very very pleased!

I see the RGB modifiable values now too. I SWEAR those weren't there before. I think there was something seriously wrong with my previous monitor, I'm so glad I got this replacement! :)

The only thing annoying about this monitor when I got it was some slight backlight bleeding on the bottomright when watching movies. It glowed a blue hue.

Glad to hear it.

Enjoy.

Got my G2400WD on Thursday, and I'm loving it so far. There's some slight tearing pre-"warmup" when I play my PS3 at 1080p, but that goes away after a couple of minutes. Great monitor overall.

Quick update: It seems the tearing only occurs if I turn my monitor on (after a decent cool-down period) before the PS3... Is that normal? I'll do some more testing to make sure.

Edit: Yeah, it only happens when I turn my monitor before my ps3. I get some consistent tearing/latency in an RPG I play. That's weird...

Am I the only one that thinks the gamma/brightness is too dark? I had to get powerstrip and adjust the curve a little. It makes the reds a little less intense as well.

I can't even see the first four black boxes without adjustment : http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php

got mine too but can´t use multiple displays on my gaming pc... On my other useless it of course worked :(

Got my G2400WD some days ago...

Gaming = Need AMA on. Else a slight blur results. (Notably on Counter Strike Source). With AMA there is definitely reverse ghosting. Doesn't bother me that much. But I can definitely see it. In CSS for one, and also when browsing web pages and the black text on a lighter background, when scrolling will leave a white ghost figure behind. AMA off and it's no longer there.

Input Lag = can't feel any lag at all. Coming from a NEC 90GX2. If you turn on V-Sync, input lag is introduced. I haven't tried any buffering tweaks or anything, but as far as I know this isn't fixable.

Colors = I like the out the box colors more than what's been suggested here in the forum. Black level is fine.

Stand = Wobbly.

Refresh Rate = Can't go a single Hz over 60 @ 1920x1200. If it could do 75Hz like my 90GX2 all would be forgiven. I can tell the difference.

Movies = Looks fine to me.

Overall I'm satisfied, got it on the NewEgg sale ($280 or something, free ship), worth every penny. I would've loved a DoubleSight, but not at $700.

Had more time with now and it certainly works super for gaming. As mentioned virtually no input lag and no ghosting. My reference is an 8 ms monitor and I soon got immune to ghosting on that one too. I am sure it´s there for a sensitive eye my 2400W doesn´t have overdrive :)

Movies it´s acceptable but not in the same league as my LCD TV but wasn´t expecting anything else so I am still happy with it.

Now tested movies some more... Well I must say I don´t really find this useful at all for this purpose. surprised how unsharp and blurry it is with dvd movies even when I upsample them compared to my 720p lcd tv. especially since this is just 24" and that is 32".

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a good office display, in another thread I've been already suggested the G2400W, would be nice to know now your experience with it since I see many of you already own one of this benq panels

I've already two dell panels, 2408WFP and 2005FPW, ok the second but not satisfied at all with the first that it's anything but eye friendly, too bright, red saturated ( even after calibrate with spyder3pro) and poor text.

What im looking is a eye-friendly panel to work, sharp text is very important to me, in the 2408 the text is not very clear and over gray or blue background it shines!

thanks!

text certainly is very sharp but the 1900x1200 resolution makes things very small... Could increase the font size but then the text here for example gets very separated between the lines.

the text isn´t as sharp but is anyway easier to read on my 32" sitting 1,8 metres away it feels like at 1360x768. Maybe a 22" 1680x1050 display is better?

You may be able to do higher refresh with VGA, but no way will you be able to go 1920x1200 @ 75hz with single link DVI due to bandwidth limitations. Unfortunately the old G2400W could do 1280x1024 @75hz without dropping frames, but the V2400W and G2400WD are limited to 1024x768 I believe. Dunno why they removed that?

If input lag comes from V-Sync it's usually the video card introducing it, especially if you have Crossfire or SLI, but that may just be the video card slowing down if you are using a single card.

Generally that's not the monitor doing that, unless it is doing the scaling. If it's from the PC, that's the PC doing that.

TVs are more forgiving, especially 720p ones, because they hide compression artifacts.

that's disappointing to hear. you're not the first to say that this monitor isn't so great for viewing movies in hi quality. I want a a 24" mon for both gaming and BLU RAY. Maybe I gotta dish out more cash for a samsung.

anyone disagree that the G2400W isn't too good for Blu Ray movie viewing? What would be better?

and is there a source that ranks the latest 24" monitors regularly?

I've been intrested in this monitor for some time now..as it seems perfect for PS3 and X360.

My question is, when I connect PS3 with this monitor via HDMI cable, will I get sound when I connect my headphones with monitor? Or do I have to do something else?

Thanks.

If you hook up your PS3 and set the "audio settings" in the XMB to HDMI, you will get sound from the monitor. I've tested it and it does work properly.

I'm almost sold on the G2400WD. My main concern is whether the colors are to muted. The vibrancy of the colors is probably my #1 priority when purchasing a monitor. I've heard that the Gateway FHD2400 has a more vibrant screen, but other issues about the Gateway make me hesitant.

Also, I'll be using this to watch movies as well as playing games, and most monitors that I've tried out didn't have adequate screens for movie watching, as the colors were too muted. (Granted I didn't use a calibration tool to fix the colors, as I didn't know about them until recently.)

Your concern makes sense, as some have complained about this, but keep in mind the Gateway FHD2400 is a wider gamut display, which without color management will saturate colors to the point of inaccuracy. The HP W2408H as well.

The G/V2400W/WD are both standard gamut monitors, and when using consoles I've enabled the movie and dynamic modes to get an extra kick in color saturation (as consoles don't need accurate color). The movie mode also serves well with BluRay or HDDVD.

If you want vibrant colors similar to cranking up the "color" control on a TV, a wide gamut screen would likely better serve you. Unfortunately most also have unpleasant characteristics not present in the BenQ such as:

1) Reduction of brightness can cause loss of contrast at lower levels
2) Generally poor colors uncalibrated, generally oversaturated colors when calibrated without color management
3) Improper scaling of HD signals
4) Overscan on by default (with no control) with HDMI HD sources

I can only think of the Samsung T2x0HD series as being likely to give you a properly scaled, non cropped image (due to overscan), but they are generally more $$$.

Another one, albeit at 1920x1080 (1080p) native resolution is the Dell S2409W, which at least uses a similar panel to the BenQ (from AUO), and is fairly inexpensive.

Thanks for the response.

It's interesting that you mention that I'd prefer one with a wide gamut display, since that seems to be the primary critique of the HP 2475, which by all other accounts is a damn good monitor Granted it's more expensive than the BenQ, but for an extra couple hundred that might be my best choice from what you're saying. Since I don't think the HP 2475 has some of the other problems you say most wide gamut displays have (with the exception of oversaturated colors).

Is it just me, or has the G2400WD gone out of stock at most of the better online retailers? buy.com and Amazon only have it listed through third parties at ridiculously high prices compared to where it was a few months ago, and provantage.com is out of stock entirely. Newegg is out of stock too, but I wouldn't buy from them anyways.

I hope this is just temporary and BenQ isn't discontinuing the G2400. I think my CRT is about to die and I'd settled on trying one of these if it did, but now it looks like I might not be able to get one.

V2400WD is the similar model (if not better) with a slightly higher price $399 from BenQ store.
If G2400WD is out, you can try V2400W instead.

I'm aware of the V2400W but am not particularly wild about it due to the increase in cost over the G2400s without much (or any) added benefit, and more input lag according to digitalversus.com.

If the G2400WD doesn't come back I might have to buy it though. BenQ's store actually has it for $439 plus about $35 for shipping, so I'd probably try and find it elsewhere.
