Battlefield 6

I have no idea, but BFV and 2042 ended up with a lot less maps than BF4, BF1 was close though.

Just started to update, I'll have to play tonight.

I'm not talking about the launch map list, I'm talking lifetime. Paid DLCs have their perks.

Exactly. We'll get maybe 6 free maps if we're lucky. All the while we'll have to deal with the following:

“It has to be grounded. That is what BF3 and BF4 was — it was all soldiers, on the ground,” design director Shashank Uchil told dbltap. “I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj. Let’s keep it real, keep it grounded.”

That aged like milk with a turd in it. I figured that would be the case. CoD MW 2019 claimed similar, then within weeks after release they back back on their marketing. In this case they're showing it off pre-release but it would be nice if these companies would be sued for false marketing.

I'd rather pay for an expansion, not have the cartoon graphics, and have more maps.

I think DICE can borrow from Wargaming's page by releasing DLC that is based on real military heroes and content supporters but skip the licensed items and anime crap, lol.

I'd pay real money for BFF skins and SFX as they made the BF community laugh for ages. Probably can donate the money from the BFF DLC to a cancer fighting cause since the guy "THICK 44" who voiced Recon died from brain cancer :(

MW2019 stayed pretty grounded for the most part. Yeah they had some fancy camo you could grind for but operators for the most part were modeled after humans, and there wasn’t the Omni movement bs. BO7 is doubling down on and will have wall jumping.

BF3 launched with 9 maps, BF4 had 10 maps, BF1 had 9 maps, BF V had 8 maps and BF 2042 had 7 maps at launch so BF6 isn't launching with a lot less maps than BF games usually launch with. The older games got a lot of maps in the years after launch, but they didn't launch with a massive amount of maps.

Most of the maps in the beta could use some tweaks and most were decent, but could use some tweaks in where the capture points are and some of the maps are much better for one spawn than the other. Not a fan of empire state at all and Siege of Cairo works better in breakthrough than conquest IMO. Lack of maps in the beta will of course make people tired of them as the same map shows up over and over again if you play quite a bit.

Usually I only found 3-4 of the maps good, a few OK and quite a few that I hated in the each of the previous battlefields including BF1 and I skipped BF V and 2042. For me the maps in the beta were generally OK. I found Liberation peak and Iberian Offensive a bit above average, Siege of Cairo was OK and disliked Empire State. Operation firestorm was pretty good in BF 3 so likely that I find that one pretty good in BF 6 as well. If the current maps are around the middle of the pack then it should be better than a lot of BF launches for me. Operation firestorm was good in BF3 so it will most likely be good in BF6, unless they completely mess it up.
Yeah, I didn't care for empire state either.

This unfortunately is nothing new. I remember when Medal of Honor was supposed to be the new COD. The issue essentially boils down to old man yells at cloud. The gaming industry doesn't care because you the consumer have already been replaced by another consumer who doesn't care because they are a kid spending their parents' money after being raised on mobile games. This is just the new normal.

I played the new Iwo Jima map on 2042 and it’s actually very nice. Ray tracing does add another level of eye candy for those who enjoy that, which I wouldn't mind seeing in BF6.

Some people like that stuff and it's fine as long as it is only cosmetic and skins don't provide a camo advantage. The issue comes when the troops stop looking like they belong on the battlefield or looks like they are from a different faction. The upside is that if enough people buy battle passes then it gives an incentive for EA to provide more maps etc. to keep players active.

It is EA so I wouldn't be surprised if we both get battle passes and paid map packs.

I completely disagree. Art is an important aspect of a game, and a military game should look like a military game.

I'd much rather than BF3/4 style battle passes with dozens of maps and 100 guns than a game with 15 or so maps and circus looking weapons/characters.

Absolutely agree. If it's a good game I have no problem shelling out for more maps. Just keep the rainbow rifles out of it!

They can add colorful skins but I want it client side only. You can be a pink fluffy unicorn if you want, but youll look like a normal soldier on my screen.

This is why I have never understood why they don't branch out for a game that fits. Make it Battlefield: Apocalypse and just have a bunch of crazy skins, weapons, etc. Hell have cosmetic loot drop like something out of the Division where you can dress your character. I will never understand making a military style FPS and then going out of your way to sell cosmetics that have nothing to do with the game. I mean I don't understand buying skins to begin with. but at least make it so they fit the setting.

Far Cry did something similar with Blood Dragon. But the reason I suspect a MP game doesn't do this is they don't want to segment their player base. It looks a lot better to say we have 1 million players than it does 500k x2

I never saw the point of looking like a fairy that wears boots on the battlefield ;)

I get it, but they are also talking about going yearly so plenty of opportunity to play with settings each game.

This also goes back to where they should just sell a Battlefield Portal and offer expansions every so often to add additional content. You could more easily test crazy maps and modes just to see what takes off. Bring in the classic maps, weapons, and skins while also introducing new more outlandish settings as tests like apocalyptic, gangs, steampunk, etc.

I don't really mind the weapon skins/camo. It was in BF4 and didn't really notice them that much. Hopefully it doesn't go overboard tho.

They can always do a future BF with the crazy stuff. They can switch on/off between the silly version and the more serious version. Annual release would be too much, but this should be a proper BF. 3 years later they can release their kiddie version, and 3 years after than they can do another proper BF. Assuming there are lots of maps and the game is good, 5-6 years between releases is not bad. I'm not going to spend 6 months unlocking crap and then have to do it again next year anyways.

I've been playing 2042 and the latest Iwo Jima map and it's really fun. It's everything you expect from a Battlefield game, a large map, tanks, BMP's, planes, helicopters, tunnels, trenches, awesome gunplay when contesting spawn points. I think it's actually better than any of the maps in the BF6 beta.

I agree with Rush being better at that size, but why are they even dictating it in the first place.

Have a checkbox for sizes and let the matchmaker figure it out.

Yeah this is what I never understand about matchmaker. It is always so limited. If you are going to force matchmaking on me, let me pick the maps, specific modes for those maps, and acceptable player counts for each even if it requires going into an advanced setting.

You can do that with the Custom option, but it is more limited and you can't save multiple pre-sets. Being a match maker, you'll find less available players as well compared to a server browser. You'll be matched with people with different preferences (probably the default) so end of match you're kicked out and need to start a longer search again. Because the server you connect to might do Conquest, but then switch to another mode...

Oh I get it. Seems just as long to quit when the next map comes up you don't want to play only to join the queue again.

After reading the lead dev's comments regarding map size and design philosophy I'm not optimistic. In fact, I've gone from a day 1 buy to a wait for significant discount sale buy--if I even buy BF6--and that's going to wholly depend on the modding community.

For those who missed it, he said that he didn't see the smaller maps as a problem (and as some have pointed out, it's not the size so much as the design of the maps, which aren't the same thing even if they may seem similar points). But worse, he said they want to cater to everyone so they're designing infantry maps, vehicle maps, helicopter maps and jet maps and tank maps, etc. So there you have it--eventually we'll get a 64 player tank map but it'll just be...tanks I guess. And then there will be some sort of air superiority map for the flyboys. But they won't be mixed arms battles apparently, which was always a feature of the Battlefield franchise, imo.

BF42 had maps that catered to either tanks or planes only. Battle of Britain was definitely aerial combat based, same with Midway, although you did have to drive the carriers to capture a couple of flags at sea. Aberdeen was tank based- sure you can be infantry but be prepared to run a long way with nothing to do. Having maps catered to certain play styles isn't new to Battlefield.
