Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

I'm talking about when there's still plenty of time, and it almost always works on the SECOND attempt, so it's not a time issue. The problem is with the mechanic itself IMO.

You're right. The Beta had the same problem. They never fixed it.

I know that...thanks for the tip for others, though. I'm talking about when there's still plenty of time, and it almost always works on the SECOND attempt, so it's not a time issue. The problem is with the mechanic itself IMO.

Agreed. It's burned me a number of times.

No wonder why Im always getting killed by RPGs...they have so many lol :(

I was in a game last night one of our servers here and I swear to God I couldn't think straight with the constant wall to wall bombardment. 5 seconds tops and poof, you were dead.

I thought it was a little bit overdone myself. I immediately went to an infantry only server after that one for a much needed change of pace.

Thermal Camo came in handy. Enemies tried to lase me from hilltops, jets and helos couldn't lock on, tanks guided missiles were useless.

Needless to say I brought the pain.

Thermal Vision allows you to see mines. I pretty much roamed the map untouched, until a group of engineers were sick of being raped and ganged up on me. :D

Shoot, I dread seeing you if you're on the opposing team. ;)

On the other hand, if we're on the same team I'm more like :D

did they remove the ladder from inside the antenna on caspian border? or am i crazy and there wasnt one in the beta?

Im thinking that would be the perfect place to set up a soflam

there was one in the beta and i've heard it's been removed...haven't actually checked for myself in game.

How do you guys quickly identify a foe? You know, when you are running and turn a corner and bump into someone else? Do you shoot first and ask questions later?

I always seem to get killed because of the split second I need to look above their head for a missing blue marker.

Most of the time I have my eye on the minimap, a quick look will tell me if friendly is around the corner. That will let me distinguish is someone who is hiding in that corner over there is friendly or foe. Other times I just look at their face, the USA dudes don't wear masks and goggles like the RUS dudes do.

Does anyone know how to disable the stupid "do you want to disable aero" pop-up that windows so kindly shows me every single time I launch the game, despite me telling it not to ask me again? I'm getting tired of getting killed because my game will minimize 3-4 minutes after joining a match (and crashing half the time)

Would like to know this as well.

Meh I know who my TEAMMATES are because of the blue marker, but I can't tell squadmates from enemies because the markers look way too similar to me. This was annoying in BC2 and still is.

That's a windows issue. Try closing BL after you join a match or increase the size of you page file.

try this:
find the BF3.exe > right click > properties > compatibility tab > check the box that says something along the lines of "disable visual themes"

that worked for BC2, not sure if it'll work for BF3.

Learn to recognize the uniform. I learned this from playing BF42 servers that had name tags off. I don't even look at name tags.

not sure if it is the best fix, but you could "disabled desktop composition" on BF3.exe it turns aero off when it is loaded. i am use to doing this because gaming on one screen, watching movies on another seems to be more compatible with this option checked.

heMadHatterXxX:
i would try turning on color blind mode, you might have a slight color issue with your eyes. you can spot blue vs red but not green vs red, the most common kind of color blindness. most servers have FF off so i been in the habit of shooting my teammates for a second if they are not clearly a friendly. the funny thing most of the people you shoot, shoot back out of habit.

The recoil on most guns in the game feels fucking sweet though.
I love the way you have to compensate with the mouse to control the recoil on full auto. The feeling of being in the zone when you create a tight circle of bullets at someone 100+ feet away with a machine gun and watching them fall is just fucking satisying.

Yeah, that's part of the problem with kit stuff. Everyone wants to spam the M320 once they get it.

I've been hitting the 320 since I unlocked it to unlock smoke. Smoke grenades can be just as invaluable in taking objectives as medkits.

That only works if they have been "Spotted" by you or someone else beforehand. Otherwise, you won't see them on the map. Correct?

blast! i just looked and its gone ,i dont understand why they would take it out

Interesting, because somehow someone set up a SOFLAM up on the platform in a game I was in. I guess they must have used a jet/helo and bailed out to parachute down on it.

And actually I'm glad the ladder is gone because snipers would just camp up there, and due to the height/angle it was REALLY hard to kill them unless you were a sniper as well. Hitting the platform with an RPG may or may not do it, but I find that hitting the other side of a non-destructible object with an RPG doesn't really do damage through the object. Kinda makes sense, but also makes it annoying when there is someone camping right on the other side of a thin piece of metal.

Problem for me is the little blue marker is way to small for 2560x1600

Uniforms - RU has dark uniforms, US has light ones. Whenever I start a round I always tell myself - dark uniforms die, or light uniforms die. Helps me remember. With FF off, shooting first is always an option also. I've taken plenty of rounds from teammates coming around corners - and given plenty also.

Yeah, regarding identifying enemies, it seems like 90% or more of servers have FF off, so I usually don't worry too much about firing a couple of rounds into a friendly if we both come around the corner too fast. Usually I can see the markers, but not always depending on the environment. I typically play Assault, too, so if I did accidentally damage them I just chuck down a health kit immediately to make up for it.

I have found the one problem of having a PC version of Battlefield 3: No chance of playing with your friends.

All four of my friends are getting the 360 version and I don't have a 360 console nor am I willing to pay extra just for multiplayer. (Multiplayer should be free regardless if it's console or not.) I have already spent enough on my computer as it is just to play current games. It still has some life left in it until I upgrade, which hopefully will be November when SB-E is out or wait until next year.

None of my friends are willing to upgrade their computers or patient enough to deal with the graphic and game issues they've read about the game. One friend has a Radeon 5450 and another with an 8800 GT. The last two are still using a computer with integrated Intel graphics chips.

Blah.

I guess I'm going to just wait for Skyrim to ship. BF3 is a fun game, and I really enjoyed the single player mode. I haven't done co-op (for obvious reasons), and have done a few online matches. But, I'm definitely not some pro FPS gamer. It just would be better to play with friends online or someone you know.

Great game, and really good graphics.

Let me rephrase: I peek at the minimap from time to time to stay aware of where my teammates are, so if I see someone in a certain direction where I know where there is no teammate, I shoot first no questions asked.

Also, you are right on enemies being spotted beforehand. But, I think they flash on the minimap for a split second if they are shooting.

That's a shame on your situation, but it's been the opposite for me. Roommate went out and purchased a new PC for this, I upgraded for this. His buddies at work converted from XB360s to play this on PC.

The slight issues have not deterred us from having any meaningful fun and we've been able to group/squad up relatively easy. Sorry to hear your situation hasn't panned out. Join the [H] Gaming section if you want players who work together.

When ff was on in beta and my buddy was missing icons I said 'when in doubt shoot everyone".

Shoot first, ask questions later; .....I know, this is not very helpful; I too have some trouble ID'ing friend and foe...but it's getting better. Glad FF is off on most servers till we learn this game.

I take back my depressing complaints about performance with GTX480 @ 2560x1600.

I turned off Blur and Deffered AA, everything else at Ultra, the game runs at 35-50FPS average. And Ambient Occulsion at SSAO instead of HBAO.

What exactly is the second AA setting? I have it at High too.

Still wondering if upgrading for a GTX580 3GB will boost my performance by a large margin. Any ideas? My cpu is a q9550 at 3.7ghz.

gtx480>>gtx580 will probably be a "large margin"; up to you if you need/want it. Good to hear you have an option, though.

It's a hard option to upgrade. I'm broke, going to school and I have to sell my gtx480 for at least around $250 and put that towards the gtx580, and be even more broke for the next few weeks.

I had an offer for $260 for my gtx480, but he hasn't responded :(

Just curious, how many of you will be picking up MW3 too? I played a bunch of MW and maybe 10 hours of MW2, but right now I've still got to finish Batman: AC on top of all the BF3 I'm playing. And then Uncharted 3 comes out tonight. Too many games! I don't think I'll be picking up MW3.

My brother is a big MW fan, I see him play MW2 online all day, and to me it's just some ADHD shooter spamfest.

The only thing that remotely interests me is the campaign. And I probably won't shell out $60 for a 8-9 campaign.

I was really surprised how much work BF3's campaign was put in. I thought it would be bots+MP maps.

I refused to by MW2 when it was on sale for $19 on STEAM. I don't plan to get MW3 for any reason.

Why would I when I have BF3 and Red Orchestra 2 to keep my shooter lust satisfied.

I think that q9550 would heavily bottleneck a gtx580.

After seeing BF3 at Ultra on my system my suitemate's gonna be building a system for it. Suitemate across the hall has it on the X360 and it just does not compare.

Hold E to decline... Space bar to accept.

You don't actually have to hit the spacebar to accept, you're already back in the game. Pressing the spacebar with default key bindings will just make you stand up, which if you're in the middle of combat is a good way to get dead.

If you don't hit spacebar to accept, you bleed out; at least, that's what happened to me in the beta.

.

That has nothing to do with the PC version. I have friends who own consoles, they are just casual gamers to me, not really "gamers" anymore than I am a football player for playing a few pickup games now and then.

I dont consider them when I think of my "gaming" friends and I went out and made friends with people who game on the PC for this reason.

My best friends have a PS3, so I went and bought one too so I could dick around with them, but my "gaming" friends all own PC's. Its a more serious / hardcore gaming platform and you owe it to yourself to get some PC gaming friends.
