Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Pretty sure all you have to do is face an enemy vehicle and tap Q to spot. Don't even have to bring up the CommRose. Works that way for me, anyway.

And revives...yeah, I get frustrated with that as well. I always revive if I can (I almost always play Assault) unless the situation makes it not possible (like if there's a tank staring me down, lol)

Part of the issue with revives (besides lazy teammates) is that in my experience the defib paddles are really awkward to use. I swear, EVERY time I stand over a guy to revive and hit the paddles, it will not work unless I get RIGHT down in his face (like crouching or prone) so I end up wasting time and sometimes get killed trying to do it. They need to make the angle/distance at which it works just a little bit wider or longer. My 2 cents.

I will have to play with a bit more, I actually thought that you needed to bring up the CommRose before it would spot as it didn't seem to be working by just tapping 'q'.

If the body does not have an icon above them then they are no longer revivable. You only get so much time to revive people. I was pretty frustrated with revive not working until I learned that.

Yep, a quick tap of Q is spot, hold Q for the commo rose. Be nice if that info existed somewhere also - maybe that accounts for how little spotting there is.

I don't understand why they made it so tanks can barley make it up hills, even with boost which is also something I don't get why they added...

What the in-game UI should have looked like:

If you agree with it, you should post your support at the BF3 feedback forum:

http://getsatisfaction.com/battlefield3/topics/new_in_game_ui

DICE's response so far:

Here's a good reference thread linking to each of the major idea topics on the official BF3 feedback forums:

http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/...ted-outstanding-under-consideration-dice.html

Great information! Thanks Defiant.

Funny how these things were so far ahead of its time earlier this decade. PC gamers don't complain without reason. We had everything and more 6 years ago...what the hell happened? Oh I know, consoles and money from all the watered-down crapware people bought year after year...at least we still have ARMA.

I will post on those forums, we have have hope yet!

They will fuck off back to COD in a week or so.

We all hope so...
Why wish that? Wouldnt it be better to help them get better that way you have more players that will get into the BF series instead of COD? When you see bad players why not squad up with them and maybe try to teach then to be better players instead of hoping they go away.

I myself would like to see more people stay with a good game like BF3 instead of hoping they go back to COD. But that's just my opinion I guess.

Ideally just get over the fallen troop, press defib, and let it animate the action all together where it brings you to the proper distance if you weren't. Just go into an area with down troops and spam that button and it'd basically bring you to the closest one near you, kinda like those auto-parallel parking tech in newer cars. That'd be tits.

Any word on if they're going to fix the retardedly oversized chat window so it doesn't take up 1/3 of the screen?

And that, friend, as you stated, is in fact the players themselves.

Not really given that lack of team work was never this pervasive in previous BF games. No one drops med kits or ammo boxes, no one revives, no one uses the SOFLAM, etc.

Maybe there is a massive influx of CoD players who aren't accustomed to team work, but like I said it seems far worse than any previous BF game. It doesn't help that the CommRose and context sensitive communication system seems to be balked.

I just wanted to say that I've been playing a lot on the HARD servers and we seem to always kick a lot of ass. I see the [HIG] tag on the top all the time! Stefawn here btw. :p

Wooo

This would have been possible w/ VOIP, like the ps3 and xbox has; the browser/battlelog version of voip for pc is not condusive to making new friends or talking to strangers..... no good way to communicate, to teach........

Ya, a tank is the original go-anywhere machine. In this game, if you have a steep driveway the tank can barely make it. :D

I like the fact that engineer has a damn good chance against a tank and jets/heli's

They arent as OP as they were in BF2

No worries, I figure the more people there are posting in those feedback threads the greater the chance that a lot of our complaints will eventually be addressed by DICE in future patches.

I keep mashing requesting a pickup in those situations, but from what I've been reading on the battlelog forums, commo rose radio commands are client side only?? What exactly is the point of having a commo rose if only you can hear the messages?

Not even mentioning how half assed the commo rose implementation is....it looks like it was thrown in as an afterthought because the community kept bitching about having one in the game. Where are the important radio commands like drop ammo/health, request repairs, bail out, enemy boat spotted, etc? Isn't that why we wanted a commo rose in the first place? Instead we get to yell GOGOGO to ourselves, brilliant.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thoroughly enjoying the game, but several aspects of the UI just feel rushed/poorly thought out and implemented. I really hope they fix all the niggles, all we really want is the same functionality that BF2 had!

OH god no... 14 inches of snow and 100% power outage in my town possibly no power for a week. oh the humanity! I have had to fall back to my power outage plan alpha, sleep as much as humanly possible in hopes that when I wake up the power will be on.:p

(sent from work)

Last night i de-engineered 3 tanks LOL! I've only done it twice in BC2 and yet I did it 3 times in one night. So funny. Seems easier to do.

I don't know what's more annoying. An LAV driving away with the icon showing 1/6 at the start of the map, or idiot Support and Assault not dropping Kits or Defib'ing.

Then again, when I spawn support, I get like 4 resupply medals since noone else drops the boxes. But I must say, it's damn annoying when no Assault defib. It's rare to find them.

Maybe this question has been answered before, but whats the quickest way to check different video setting and fps? Is there a benchmark tool? Loading and exiting the game seems like a lot of work.

I was getting really frustrated trying to play recon this weekend, and for some crazy reason I decided to whip out the shotgun... Talk about gratifying. That fricken subway tunnel map? Dude was running through the train, and I popped him... He died, but his body kept flying forward. Instagiggle. There's nothing like sneaking into a building where 3 or 4 people are holed up sniping your bros, then KABLAMBLAMBLAMBLAM they're all part of a lead salad within seconds.

I've seen that although when I play assault I try to put med kits in good spots and I try not to do to people what's been done to me just like in BC2: Defib someone in a bad spot where they get killed instantly again anyways.

I had that happen to me several times last night and I would have been far better off respawning but they did it to get their points.

The other issue I've seen in the game is the choice of spawn points themselves in certain situations. Spawn killing can happen all too regularly by complete accident although I've seen plenty of blatant camping, base raping, and the rest of it, too.

Gets pretty frustrating after a point.

If I'm not dropping a med kit as assault, it's cause I have the grenade launcher equipped. I don't generally do it, but sometimes I do. Wish the launcher was an accessory.

There's been a couple times I was tempted to go assault to provide defib....but I haven't leveled up assault enough to get it yet. Shows how often I play assault :p

I don't always care trying to get a ride. Many times I hitch a ride with a driver who ends up trying to take out another vehicle from halfway across the map. I still have to jump out and proceed on foot.

I find it frustrating how many people don't seem to know you can use sprint in the vehicles - I'm getting tired of jumping on as the gunner in some random tank, only to have the guy putt-putt away to the flag. Hit the gas man, there's a war on!

LMAO...completely agree.Ive jumped out of tanks because I could run faster than they were driving...:p

I wasn't too pleased on Caspian Conquest, when the tank driver I had been with (and repairing frequently) for half the game, took off after I hopped out to help him deal with an AT guy hanging around point A. Beyond having to hoof it across half the map to get back to the action, it was a real shame because I'd been doing a pretty good job keeping him alive.

I also noticed that 'Pick me up' doesn't really work. Hope they fix it soon!

So I have been playing a few hours now up to level 8 or 9 and my thoughts are fairly straight forrward. It seems like the game plays "sloppier" than BFBC2.

Going prone with a sniper rifle has the same amount of scope movement as standing? Where does tha come from.

Why does the tank go slower than molasses when it gets one RPG in it.

Why can't I change my loadout while the game is loading?

Who thought it was a great idea to make every single light souce totally blinding?

In general it is an OK game but the group of 15-20 guys I play with normally certainly aren't stuck on this game like we were BFBC2. A few even stopped and went to play world of tanks last night. That is saying something coming from a group that averaged over 1200 hours played in BFBC2.

I primarily play Assault, so I always drop Medkits in key locations and I always Defib when possible. It's why I haven't loaded out the M320 yet... Would not want to replace my Medkit with the Grenade Launcher.

What's more annoying is when on HC servers, you get teamkilled and the person who killed you won't even Defib you...

QFFT!!!!!!

The flashlights are completely overdone, blinding the shit out of teammates, red dots, even IF they directly put the laser in your eye, is only affecting ONE EYE, why is my entire screen red? And why does it look like the sun is ten thousand times bigger and brighter than it is in real life? It's totally disorienting.

For giggles, try getting in the carrier's AA gun on the map where the attackers have to get on boats and shit to get to the island and face the island. The green hue + the sun makes you pretty much completely blind and you can only shoot (uselessly) at air units in the peripheral (far left and right of where the sun is blazing)

It seems like the game plays "sloppier" than BFBC2.

That is interesting. Compared to BC2 I find the game to play more 'precisely;' from weapon mechanics, to movement, to vehicle handling it all seems tighter to me. I love that bullet drop has been implemented on assault rifles too.

.

You have the option to accept or decline a revive.

Really? I didn't know monitors came with eye detection.

People are really really bad at this game.
Yes, the team play last night was terrible. It was the first night I didn't have that much fun.
I guess the flood of inexperienced players are temporarily killing gameplay. I capped about 8 flags alone and my team couldn't hold any of them.
