Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

I see what you did there... with only one eye. Point is, screen shouldn't turn totally red.

Yes the lights are blinding, I agree. You can try and turn down some of the effects to high instead of Ultra.
I did that and the sun wasn't as bright.

All I ever do in BF3 is fly jets. I have yet to witness a jet pilot turning the tide of battle. Flying jets in BF3 and playing on the ground, even with helo's - is like playing two different games.

I score way more points on the ground than in a Jet. I flew around the whole match and finished with less than 1000pts.
I score more in Helos, but it's difficult to see ground troops without spotting. You have to hover lower to see them, but risk being shot down.
The helos are not as effective in past BF games, even in BC2 they were more effective.

So when you hit level 45, it resets and goes back to one?

Edit: Aka CoD? Or does it just keep going?

Curious, because I'd like to have those medals. Also, to comment on those who complain on lack of teamwork - try to help those in the game. Don't complain, help them. They are more likely to be new to this game since it has been marketed like crazy and people who used to be CoD fanboys are playing in games with me (real life friends too). Best way to handle this: Be supportive. It will help when all the CoD gamers go to CoD and realize they don't have the freedom they had in BF3 and the tight community BF3 has. They will come back if the experience is good.

You have the option to accept or decline a revive.

Sometimes it come and goes too quick but I'll make more of an effort to make use of it.

Yes, the team play last night was terrible. It was the first night I didn't have that much fun.
I guess the flood of inexperienced players are temporarily killing gameplay. I capped about 8 flags alone and my team couldn't hold any of them.

I knew I was in trouble on another server when I made it into the top 5 on my team with a fairly hideous 7-13 type score thereabouts. That tells you everything you need to know about that game and what my team was like.

Your kills/deaths isn't necessarily tied to how well you do or your team. Total score determines your ranking on the leaderboards in the end. It also determines MVP. So it doesn't always paint a picture of grim games. If you went 7-13 - you could of just ran more objectives than your other teammates. Not saying this happened, but just something to keep in mind.

Layed down my first Smoke Grenade last night. Made me smile.

I think I'm going to be using it alot.

That actually made me feel a little better about myself. :)

Yeah, it's a good way of handling the points. Think of it this way, for every 30 points you get healing someone or 100 for a kill in a round, it goes to two areas: your total experience to level up and your score at the end of the round. It goes both ways.

I'm finally starting to suck a little less. I was really good at 1942 and BF2, and decent at BFBC2 after a while. Stick to cover is probably the best piece of advice for any new BF3 player. Stick to cover!

If anyone wants to squad up with someone who throws ammo/medkits, revives you and repairs your vehicle, I'm your man. I prefer to be on the peripheral of the lines, not necessarily in the guts and grits of battle. I will take a mofo down if the need arises though.

Smoke seems like it will help in this game dramatically. Even moreso than BC2. Smoke in BC2 was terribly under utilized.

This man speaks the truth. I was just running in when I first started and was sucking massively. I am actually going through and judging my surroundings now. Allows me to stay at least positive now. I hated Metro in beta, but now I am moving properly enough to get the jump on the cowardly snipers. Ah I love killing them.

Can anyone explain to me how the laser targeting upgrade for the heli works? What type of missiles can lock onto it?

Does it have the same effect as the SOFLAM?

Anyone using the Javelin? I've been trying it out and it completely sucks. You also don't get the Explosive ammo upgrade with it, only 2 missiles can be carried. I swear the dumb thing does very little damage and it misses the target quite a bit.

Could of sworn the guys I was playing with last night were raping tanks with that weapon. Perhaps you just need to get used to aiming it properly? I am not that familiar with the that class to be honest.

it's a damn death trap for me, i always get killed while i'm (foolishly) standing in the open locking onto a tank. the 'EOD vest' perk works for it, you get 3 missiles. i think it will work pretty well when more people use the SOFLAM and you can get instant lock-on.

If it's the weapon I'm thinking of, the javelin should be the lock on missile... so aiming it properly is kind of >_>

I think you use it in the first co-op mission to destroy a couple of tanks. If so, the incredibly slow reload speed coupled with the time it takes to lock on can make it ineffective overall. I haven't unlocked it yet so I wouldn't know in MP.

Ahh yes 3, instead of 2 with the vest upgrade.

Maybe I am using it wrong, but I lock onto a tank/apc with it and fire. It's fire and forget, correct? If the vehicle even moves two inches the dumb thing hits the ground where the vehicle was when I fired it.

Anyway... it's back to RPGs for me until I figure that stupid thing out.

Considering you get a whopping 10 RPG's with the explosives perk and the fact that RPG's are so effective against infantry... I find it hard to justify loading out with any other launcher.

Ten?! Wow...that sounds like quite a lot, even for a perk.

Exactly. Plus the fact that you can be sneakier with the RPGs and the Javelins give the vehicle a lock warning that something bad might happen.

10 RPG's! wow lol

I'm unlocking Squad EOD soon. Might have to roll with that. (my squad is usally 2-3 engineers with 1 support)

i had been running support till i was sick of getting destroyed by tanks and getting in range to C4 them is a ton of fun but far to easy for them to counter. i switched to eng and found using the AA gun great. kill the stuff in the air. let our guys in the air go after stuff on the ground. i would just sit in different areas closer to their side, let jets and helos fly past me then lock on, they start to turn around head back to base and i get plenty of time fire 2 shots off, first one dropped by flairs , second one disables them. took out 40 vehicles in just a few hours as eng this weekend.

If the body does not have an icon above them then they are no longer revivable. You only get so much time to revive people. I was pretty frustrated with revive not working until I learned that.

I know that...thanks for the tip for others, though. I'm talking about when there's still plenty of time, and it almost always works on the SECOND attempt, so it's not a time issue. The problem is with the mechanic itself IMO.

What I see happening with the new people is that they get into the mix for the first time and get killed quickly/alot, so they immediately revert to scout/sniper and just kind of sit by the original spawn points so they aren't getting killed alot.
I try to help my squad, (by the way, what the general chat commands? I know K is squad but thats the only one I know), and tell them to rush or heal or whatever, but most of the times it useless. I typically end up with three snipers in my group that never rush points or emcom's or defend or whatever. Chatting is almost kind of too slow, need like voice comm forced to them or something....

I primarily play Assault, so I always drop Medkits in key locations and I always Defib when possible. It's why I haven't loaded out the M320 yet... Would not want to replace my Medkit with the Grenade Launcher.

Yeah, that's part of the problem with kit stuff. Everyone wants to spam the M320 once they get it. I haven't used it ONCE. Medkits are WAY more valuable to your team than the M320, but I guess it doesn't help people whore their K/D ratio so it's clearly useless...

Providing K/D ratio stats is probably the worst thing for this game. You should only get stats on points IMO.

Does it have the same effect as the SOFLAM?

I believe so, yes. Any kind of "guided" rockets/shells/whatever can be used with it. Those are all unlocks, so by default you don't really have any guided stuff.

Yeah, that's a big problem in this game. People don't want to ruin their K/D ratio so they camp somewhere the entire round and don't help the team.

Also, as for chat:

J = Chat All
K = Chat Team
L = Chat Squad

No wonder why Im always getting killed by RPGs...they have so many lol :(

I haven't tried the Javelin, but I just remembered last night that I had unlocked the TOW missile a while back, so I loaded that on an IFV on Tehran Highway - that thing rocks. Manually guided (not lock-on), shoots all the way across the map, one shot disable, good splash damage - it is great. Awesome to shoot it up and over a building, then aim just below the spot marker for the tank (kind of cheating, I know) and they never even know where the shot comes from.

Of course, then I drove the BMP over one of those walls at low speed (instead of launching off) and got it stuck nose down between the wall and ground and couldn't get it free. Had to get out and shoot it with RPGs so it would respawn.

Thermal Camo came in handy. Enemies tried to lase me from hilltops, jets and helos couldn't lock on, tanks guided missiles were useless.

Needless to say I brought the pain.

Thermal Vision allows you to see mines. I pretty much roamed the map untouched, until a group of engineers were sick of being raped and ganged up on me. :D

Yes I've unlocked that as well and it DOES rock. I always win head-on battles with other armored vehicles if they don't have it.
