Ya those Canadian prices don't include taxes. Most of Canada is looking at 15% on top of those prices in tax. One oil rich province gets to pay only 5% extra. :)
NV cards have been out to lunch in Canada since at least the start of the c19 stuff.

1200 USD in Canadian right now is around $1,735 (the second cheapest on that lsit)... let see how cheaper they will be south of the border

That's just it. We're in the territory of buying hobby stuff that is quite high-end and will last you a lifetime. If I didn't already have one, I could kit out a very solid home gym for that money.

Yes yes. We know. You can by a home gym, or a guitar, or a new fishing pole, or your mortgage/rent or whatever else TF you want. Its money and can be used anywhere. I don't think this is lost on anyone, i'm not sure why it keeps getting brought up as if everyone assumed their next 2-3 grand of discretionary income HAD to go to nvidia.

It is just a way to tell other anonymous avatar some of your hobby you a proud of. Everyone understand how fungible money is, how it work and what $2500 USD can buy you in general. (as if people that bought a 4090 will have paid that much once you take the current selling price into account, for many that got them at msrp they will have paid the ~tax on them) people can be convinced it will be different for a 5090..... next time the GPU market will be great.....

It's really not. It's rather a call to people to take a step back and look at how absurd the price has gotten for these toys compared to other things that are, by most people's estimation more valuble and long lasting. It could be antique chairs, or fine glasswear, or a literal mountain of books, or a custom skateboard. It's all relative, sure.

But if you have enjoyed this hobby as much as some of us have, for so long, it's worth looking at other options at this point. I won't lay out the existential problem this launch poses for this hobby, and the very well-founded derision has been expressed over the last 10 pages of this thread. It's an awful launch that stands to go down the worst in the history of graphics cards, and by no small measue.

You can always "beat the system" by hanging 1-2 hardware generations back. You use to be able to hang only one generation back but that's fucked now too.

Best compromise IMHO is buy top tier and then skip the next generation and only participate in new hardware every other gen. Best case is to skip the big stupid power intensive weak uplift gens like series 3 and 5 cards

Very often in those type of message, after reading it you end up learning about something the poster personally own and do (when they could have been made very well without any personal details of the sorts) and they are always cool one never a new TV or 12 month family plan smarthphone data plan type.... any unprompted human speak tend to be a reflex to rise its value among the group, just a normal thing to do, we are strongly hardwired to do it.

Would not surprise me if for some people their 3090->4090->5090 (once nicehash revenues are taken into account) will have been really cheap, the person that just sold his 4090 FE for $2,100, if he bought it $1,600 in 2022, after 13% ebay fee and taxes, maybe still made money on it. It feel like it can be a lot of work to beat it that way too, outside luck or some connection.

I thought the 3 uplift was good. 2k series brought RTX to the table but craptastic otherwise

This is what I do. Very happy with a cheap 13600K and RTX 3080.
 
Generally, if you buy a Gen on a new node, you’ll get significant uplifts. If you’re relying on strictly architectural changes, not so much.

You could buy a Daniel Defense Delta 5 pro for that price. Then another 3k on a Nightforce scope. Another 1500 for a suppressor, another 1k for the tripod, 350k for land, 30k in match ammo.....anywho, 2500 for a consumer gpu is a lot and they'll still sell.

Stuff in today reviews like: At this time, the precompiled pyTorch distribution has no support for Blackwell, and Looks like a performance regression here. I guess that's because Topaz Video AI has no support for Blackwell yet.
Reflex 2 not ready for any reviewer, yet it seems, how much of a cool down around MFG latency talk would it have been to have numbers show MFG-reflex 2 cutting "latency" in half in a bunch of title...

The multiple push to the release date, not just that they had a 2024 product launch on their timeline but 21 to 30 of January, reviewer not all on the same drivers. Combined with very meh benchmark results and reaction.

We are used to worst messy launch and delay from everyone now (even Apple has not been perfect lately), so this does not feel particularly bad, but I doubt they are happy with it.

That said, the 13% of 3.x billions lost in market cap for completely different reason must help to think about something else.

3000 was a great launch, it was just hard to get cards at MSRP because of COVID and Crypto causing the demand to skyrocket. (and the cards had a fair pricing and great uplift, making them extra attractive)

I would say it was a great product, not a great launch. Wasn't it found that Nvidia was selling directly to crypto miners?
