I am really surprised at some of the windows install sizes people are reporting. I have Win 8 pro on a 128gb SSD and with just windows, office 2013, and chrome i am at 43.2 gb. This is a fresh install and i have no games, movies, music or anything installed.
Personally I have no issues with windows 8, Start8 really helps out a lot and if metro is not your thing then it will allow you to disable it. I also run it on a notebook as well and really do not have many issues but as others said a mouse makes a world of difference.
So I just picked up a rather nice Toshiba notebook since my desktop decided it was no longer right for this world. Now I run in to a little issue, I use my computer daily for work and in doing so require dual or triple monitors. I was looking at a few usb3 docks that had 1 dvi and 1 hdmi ports...
So i am trying to upgrade a friends old desktop and ran in to a little issue. Its been a really long time since i had to buy a power supply and i really have gotten behind the times. so with that said the computer has a Intel® Desktop Board DG965WH motherboard with an Geforce 8800 GT. Any...
So i was poking around the interwebs when i ran in to this page and though it was a rather interesting idea. http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/keylock/
Now the only issue i would see with this is by using a key as a switch that would mean the power leads would be always connected if the...
Thank you both very much, sorry i was not more clear in my question. My main worry was ensuring that someone would not be able to access the computers just by using IP:Port. I was hoping that it was as simple as not enabling the port forwarding but was not sure if UPNP would auto port forward...
So i have a bit of an odd question and i think i already know the answer but i want to be sure. I would like to set up RDP for 3 desktops at my house to be accessed over a vpn when not home. Currently i am running a VPN on a linksys WRT54g router with dd-wrt. I would like to know what all needs...
Yea i do understand that i just was not sure if the computer would see the network drives or read them because they would be over the 2TB limit was my fear.
Thank you very much for the info, and since the hard drives in question are not going to be installed on my pc or used to boot off it sounds like i should be good.
So I know this is a little noobish questions but this is the first time I have ever messed with a drive over 500GB. From the reading that I have done it seems in order to use a 3TB drive installed on a windows pc I would have to format it in to at least 2 partitions for windows to be able to...
So i am totally out of ideas and come seeking help. i have a desktop with 2 asus ve205 monitors, about 3 weeks ago 1 of the monitors started a flicker or shimmer. After a few mins it would normally stop. i went on vacation for a week and now when i turn both monitors on the 1 just keeps...
Thanks you all for the feed back, looks like you all made it easy for me. I am glad to hear the MCE remote works well in both linux and windows since i am thinking of running a stripped down version of ubuntu 10.04 with xbmc in stand alone mode.
Thanks for the info kac, i spend a week messing with 7MC but was having alot of issues getting it to read iso files. Kac77 can you tell me do you use a remote with xbmc? or do you know how well a remote would interface with it?
Thanks for all the great responses.
Right now I plan on throwing in 3 2tb seagates in a raid 5 setup til I can get some more money together to build a full file server.
So I finally decided to break down and build an htpc but i have a few questions as far as the software and storage.
I was wondering what everyone would recommend as far as the movie management software/interface? I was really hoping to find something that had an interface similar to Netflix...
Well first thing, there is going only going to be 2 computers and the netgear on this network that's it no other computers clients or anything else. The way the system was set up before was from the ISP we have 3 static ips (over kill i know), so each device had its own static ip...
so long story short i am in need of some help with setting up a small mini network. There is going to be 2 computer and a router each with there own static public ip address (ie 68.x.x.x range) The issue i am running in to is getting the netgear set up correctly, every time i disable the dhcp...
well biggest issue is the computer access code is a pain in the a$$ to keep for all the computers i use it on. also on windows vista if there is more then 1 log in on the computer it changes some settings that does not display all the users and you have to manually time the user name and...
so i am wondering what everyone here uses? i have 5 computer i need to make a remote connection to and have been using logmein for that, but there are some small issues i been having with it. something web based would be great so anyone have any ideas? free is also a great thing as well :)
so wondering if anyone here ever heard of a site called www.mint.com ? i found it on lifehacker and was wondering if anyone here uses it? I love the idea of it but still a little worried about trying it.
