Says you.....:P
Seriously though, I think this is roughly 75% conspiracy theory, and 25% Nvidia not going about this very well. As an admitted ATi fanboy, I enjoy the competition between the two behemoths, but at the same time I also enjoy the levels of BS that it pulls out of both of them...
Well, the troubles are back. I went a couple weeks with an occasional crash, but not really enought to make me get anything other than annoyed. Now it's pretty much a fight to even play games sometimes.
I just did a clean install for Windows 7 and got a few Superfetch, Windows Explorer, and...
I only have about a month on this vista 64 install, but I'll be doing a complete install of 7. I do fresh installs every year or so on all my computers and figure it's probably a good idea to keep the habit going.
I've pretty much solved the issues. I haven't had any problems for a few days now, though I will probably look into replacing my RAM in the near future, but I'll take those questions to the appropriate forum :P
Thanks for the help everyone though. It seems in my hiatus from computer building, I...
I've basically isolated it to memory. Now it's just a matter of determining whether it's the sticks or something between them and the CPU.
/praying for sticks
I've basically narrowed it down to a RAM issue. I manually adjusted all of the settings to be synced up correctly and had a pretty stable run playing L4D for a couple of hours and then a raid in WoW without any crashes. I did get a few fatal errors with WoW that after checking the tech forums...
Ran a good 3 hours solid with no problems....then randomly two crashes in a row while playing WoW. Still can't really figure out how/why it's occuring. RAM settings seem stablized. Maybe more power to the DRAM?
Here are the settings via cpuz. I just got home from work and it booted up just fine, including using the case power button.
Core: 3210 mhz
multiplier: 16
FSB: 200.6 mhz
HT link: 1003.4 mhz
Core Voltage: 1.375v
Memory: Link to actual ram for comparison as it's obviously not running at the...
I set everything to auto except voltage, which I had around 1.325 (stock is 1.3). Memory was around 1.65 most of the time. Clock speed was at 3.2 (200 fsb x 16) and HT was reading 2000 on cpuz the last time it didn't crash immediately. Memory timings were auto as well (cpuz had them at 7-7-7-20)...
Ran memtest, failed at the last second but during it, it said there were hardware problems but didn't give details. Then it restarted and went to a screen that let me choose either my OS or do memtest again. If I chose OS, it restarts and comes back. If I pick memtest, it says there is an error...
Looks like it's gonna be a long week >.< I'll give memtest a shot, but the fact the power button doesn't even work leads me to believe there is something more than just memory errors or what have you.
*edit*
The power button issue just randomly appeared. It worked fine an hour or so ago, but...
Can't run Memtest. Any given boot has about a 20% chance of successfully making it to windows, most just either hang somewhere between loading the OS and logging on or loop back to the boot up.
Another new symptom.....my power/reset buttons don't work and the CPU is around 48C atm (haven't...
Okay, here's the setup:
Asus Crosshair III
AMD Phenom II x4 955
Sapphire Radeon HD 5870
PC Power and Cooling 750w silencer
Caviar Black 640gb HDD
OCZ Platinum DDR3 1333 4gb in Dual channel
I did the build on Friday. It ran stable while loading up OS and apps (Vista x64) until midday saturday...
Nuth, my level 60 Tauren shaman on Dalaran...co-starring Mr. Wiggles.
Raid gear. 8000 mana, 100+ mana per tick, and almost +400 to heals buffed. Using lower rank heals I can basically spam indefinitely without going oom. I do pull aggro ALOT from healing though because of it. I'm tied...
Here I am about a week ago at the stables in Arathi basin. Btw, that would be 15 alliance in the screen shot zerging the bejesus outta the place. They were losing terribly so they all grouped up and literally went in a circle around the map. The entire alliance was 7 hunters, 5 paladins, a...
Warsong Gulch-Ten versus Ten-level 10-60
Basically this is a 10 man capture the flag event. Both teams start at their respective bases and try to steal the other teams flag and defend theres. Games tend to go pretty long (hour long games are common). Basically a ghost town these days though...
I think during the initial couple months of CSS release, cheating was more of an issue than it is now. The cheaters have either moved on to bigger and better things (like trying botting in AV for rep and honor)or just quit. I've been playing CS more or less since it's release. I've seen every...
oh good, that means only an hour to go, right?
I'm a lil frightened to see what the barrens are gonna be like with people flocking to the new battleground instant in the north end.I've still got quests to do up there.
Alright, that worked. Thanks everyone. I got everything working now (I'm typing this on the new computer).
Next step is recovering data and reformatting the offending 80 gig HDD.
One simple question to be sure: When I put the old drive on the chain, How do I configure the jumpers so I...
Alright, I finally got XP installed on that second drive. However, new problem, I can't connect to the internet. It's Windows XP with service pack 1a. What's next?
Alright, I'll give the RAM sticks a jostle
edit: Tried the ram sticks.....still no workie.
I tried booting into windows 98 on that older drive and it worked fine(aside from the usual new hardware nonsense)
So all I can figure is that it HAS to be the hdd.
Any ideas on why my...
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
1 gig of pc3200 Ram
Radeon 9800 Pro
80 gig HDD (or 20 gig at the moment....or atleast trying to)
Windows XP home edition
450 watt PSU
DVD/CD-RW
The 20 g HDD has an install of Windows 98 on it right now,
Well, I tried the repair and it didn't work. My guess is something is wrong with the HDD itself and it's just gonna have to be set aside for when I have some freetime to figure it out (I am trying to get a report for work done)
So I just decided to bite the bullet and reinstall windows on a...
