Yeah thanks, I fixed the QX6850 I'm replacing a bad asus striker extreme... It has DDR2, and it looks like the striker extreme ii has DDR3 I was trying to build rebuild an old computer, but maybe it's a pipe dream :(

Update: I'm leaning towards a bad board. I stuck a different c2d CPU in there, different ram, different GPU, etc.... I read a lot about the striker bios going bad too. It doesn't look like it has a removable chip though.

well after trying new and older driver combinations for the network adapter and video adapters, I went ahead and threw out the baby with the bath water (as mentioned earlier).. lol. I'm on WinXP Pro, and everything seems to be working great. I wish there was a way to disable that...
