Best NAS, 6 bays Mon, 8 bays preferred (3.5")

Yes absolutely, but I have space requirements of no wider than 35cm, no higher than 24cm and no deeper than 45cm. Finding that in DIY is proving hard!!

Best NAS, 6 bays Mon, 8 bays preferred (3.5")

Hi, What's currently the best NAS vendor? My requirements are: 6 bays min, 8 bays preferred (depending on width) Google integration (Docs, Pictures etc.) My front-end is Nvidia Shield TV so streaming to that Am I totally out of touch with pricing as well? Over £800 for a diskless QNAP 6...

Mini/Micro ATX Cube Case for NAS

Hi, Currently have a huge tower and want to downsize. Does anything exist that is more like a bought NAS in that its a cube/rectangle? Really rather DIY so looking for something that has 6 5.25" drive bays for 4-in-3 hot swap cages, but need them side by side rather than upwards. I have space...

2nd hand stuff for home lab for latest ESXi (6.7 U3)

Thanks. I was a bit "hard" with "must be supported". I didn't mean officially by VMware. I'm running 6.7 U3 on ML110 Gen7 at the moment - I had to swap out one of the drivers to stop it PSOD'ing but it works really well. But the Gen7 officially maxes at 16GB RAM.

2nd hand stuff for home lab for latest ESXi (6.7 U3)

Hi, I need to set something up at home to play with. I have HBAs and disks already so just need board, CPU and RAM; on the RAM won't ever need more than 128GB and don't care in what sizing (4GB, 8GB dimms etc.) just whatever overall combo is cheapest. It must be supported by the latest version...

Tower Case with 2x 92mm fan mounts and 9 or 10 front, exposed 5.25" bays

ha ha! Not to hand, but it was basically using some longish bolts to go right through the heatsink mounting holes, through the motherboard and then some anti-static washers between the board and nuts. The most annoying thing about the HP BIOS is they refuse to POST without the case fans...

Tower Case with 2x 92mm fan mounts and 9 or 10 front, exposed 5.25" bays

Yeah true! The ML110 G7 has slightly different mounting hole centers for CPU heatsink, with the standoffs fused to the case - used some spare meccano for that :)

Tower Case with 2x 92mm fan mounts and 9 or 10 front, exposed 5.25" bays

Thanks. I'm actually in UK! The 92mm fan requirement is because I butchered an HP ML110 G7 unit because it was much cheaper than buying separately (the whole thing including PSU, board, RAM and CPU was less than £100). The only downside is the custom HP BIOS requires very specific fans...

Tower Case with 2x 92mm fan mounts and 9 or 10 front, exposed 5.25" bays

Hy home server case is falling apart - the IO cables have all basically come apart from the panel. It's currently an Akasa Infinity case (which is probably a bit big anyway). What options are there out there now - all the decent ones I've seen are EOL (Zalman MS1000-HS2 for example). I have 3X...

    Sound deadening case feet

Hi, My home NAS (home build, not off the shelf) is in the loft, which is boarded but not carpeted. I get a lot of vibrational noise from this setup and want to minimize it. I have the Akasa Infinity case which has those swing out feet, which to me personally serve no functional purpose so...

    WHEA Uncorrectable Error

Hi, This is a server... got a strange one. Clean install of Windows results in this error, as soon as it's finished the old-school progress bar (loading files...) it just about shows the Windows flag for about 2 seconds. It's strange because I have a controller in slot 1 (Gen 2.0 x16 running...

    High-speed 4-pin PWM 120mm case fan

Thanks everyone. I tried the Delta QFR1212GHE and AVC DS12025B12UP024 but both no good. The board must then be coded for exactly the characteristics of only the pre- supplied 80mm and 92mm fans. That really only leaves me getting 120mm to 92mm adapters, but damned if I can find them that are...

    High-speed 4-pin PWM 120mm case fan

Thanks ryan. That model looks to come from both ML150 G6 and ML330 G6 servers. I also found AVC DS12025B12UP024 (1.05A) which comes from both ML150 G5 and ML310 G5 servers, and looks to be 3800RPM full. What I did try is swapping the headers around for the original 80mm and 92mm (AFC0912DF)...

    High-speed 4-pin PWM 120mm case fan

Well, in the BIOS I can enable or disable 'Thermal shutdown', but this doesn't affect 'wrong' fans being used as it still gave me the warning then powered off. It only seemed to stop the 'health' LED turning red!! :) Nothing in iLO config about thermal at all.

    High-speed 4-pin PWM 120mm case fan

It has HP iLO, which is probably not dissimilar to BMC. I'll check that out.

    High-speed 4-pin PWM 120mm case fan

If found someone doing the exact same thing: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/fan-advice-for-hp-ml110-g7-mobo.18432265/ https://www.arrow.com/en/products/pfb0812ghe/delta-electronics Maybe it's not (just) RPM. I can't find line current specs for the Noctua's.

    High-speed 4-pin PWM 120mm case fan

Yeah I know - I am hoping there is an acceptable range at which it will POST ok, with the bottom of the range being far away from 6100! From my testing with the original fans, it doesn't spin them at 100% on power on so that suggests it's maybe looking for a percentage of the original fans RPM...

    High-speed 4-pin PWM 120mm case fan

Thanks catscratch. I don't think max 2400 RPM is enough. It needs to be more than that minimum!
  22. L

    High-speed 4-pin PWM 120mm case fan

Thanks zepher - the original 80mm fan is rated at 10.2W so I doubt the HP board can do 4X that on the header and it's unlikely HP will divulge what it can do. What will happen if it can't do 40W - just not spin or more severe damage?
  23. L

    High-speed 4-pin PWM 120mm case fan

Hi, The motherboard from an HP ML110 G7 server has hard-coded some sort of fan RPM requirement and if it doesn't meet it, it reports an error then powers off. I don't know and can't find what the minimum RPM is. The original 80mm fan (Delta PFB0812GHE) is rated at 6100 RPM, which at full speed...

    LGA1155 backplate

Thanks. I just checked and the mounting holes on the board are 80mm to centres but standard Intel are 75mm, right? PS: It's the fan that's the problem. the 6 pin one are proprietary to HP so I was thinking the other way round: that Hyper HS is Intel push-pin type; I'd need to keep the existing fan.

    LGA1155 backplate

Actually, I'm now looking at the Hyper TX3 EVO as a replacement because it's 92mm, which is what the existing CPU fan is, but swap them. But, does anyone know if the fan can be removed from the snap on bracket of the normal Hyper? Doesn't look like the 'fan bracket version' is available in my...

    LGA1155 backplate

Hi, Took motherboard out of old case which actually had the heatsink fixings as standoffs on the case. New case doesn't have these nor holes in the right place to use standoffs. So no way of actually securing the heatsink, which is screw based rather than quick release. My existing backplate...

    Install OS to SD Card

Yeah I'm going to bin that idea! I'm going to give FreeNAS a go, which is ZFS which is what I had (although with OpenIndiana) before Windows Storage Spaces. I remember a bit about a ZFS best practice for RAID-Z2 being not less than 6 disks and not more than 10 disks. My build is a bit 'awkward'...

    Install OS to SD Card

Hi, My current home NAS motherboard died. The config was RAID 1 for Windows and all data disks in HBA mode for use with Storage Spaces. I'm soon to be getting an HP ML110 G7 motherboard which has integrated SD Card slot and internal USB port, so just wondered if I could install Windows to that...

    Motherboard had it?

No go. Without it in it did what it's been doing - fans/disks come on, but no beep and no video. When I put it back in without heatsink and fan, the computer shut itself down about 10 seconds later, I assume thermal protection kicking in. I'd have expected beeping wit no CPU? I also found...

    Motherboard had it?

Hi, As title really. Everything powers on, including fans, but get no post or display. It's a server board (Tyan Tomcat n3400b). When it was working it used to beep 3 times quickly on post to indicate all ok. It doesn't do that now. I've tried CMOS jumper, change battery, change PSU, take out...

Server 2016 - Storage Spaces (not Direct)

I'm testing Server 2016 at work. What a headache! With a 15 disk pool (created in GUI) made up of 13 HDD's (1 marked as hot spare) and 2 SSDs... 1) The GUI doesn't allow you to create a tiered virtual disk with maximum set for both tiers because it's too big for the pool 2) The GUI doesn't...

Hey, I am trying to install Windows Server 2016 with a RAID 1 volume but it is not detected. I've downloaded and loaded the driver using the 'Load Driver' option but it still doesn't show. If I try using drvload.exe to manually load the driver, it returns error 0x80070103. I'm thinking I...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hey, I use OI 151_a (yeah, I know!). Is there a way to simulate read/write to a pool to determine which drives have gone bad. Once I have done that I am going to replace them and re-jig the pools, so basically start again. What is the best distro out there now? I am considering Windows...
