My parents are still running an ancient Dell XPS from 2004-05. A beast back when but it is struggling to cut in today's world. It has 2x1GB=2GB of DDR 800 memory (Max, not upgradable unfortunatly) a new 500GB 7200rpm WD blue HDD, A 3Ghz Pentium 4 (With hyperthreading), and an ATI 9800Pro...
Ok so FYI i'm an AV noob. My parents just got a new house that has several built in wall speakers (8 sets covering 4 rooms). The previous owners took all the receivers and AV equipment. I, as the resident geek was tasked with trying to figure out what to do with the in wall speakers. After...
I doubt you will need a 4770K but I respect the nerdiness. An i5 would probably be just fine. Heck an i3 would probably suit your needs but lets be real. Screw that. and if you can get an i7 for $249.99 go for it
I wanted to make a thread to get the forum's opinion on if this is the best course of action. My device has been having performance issues for a couple of weeks now. The performance issues were most noticeable when I was using the report development side of Business Objects. Using the...
I have just recently built a new desktop with Windows 8 and all new parts including a 600W OCZ ModXStream-Pro PSU. I live in an older house with ungrounded 2 prong outlets. In order to plug my tower into the wall I bought a 2 to 3 prong adapter which supposedly grounds through the middle screw...
I am installing Windows 8 on my new build. I have already installed windows 8 on my laptop and I like it a lot. When Installing the OS on my laptop, Windows created 2 partitions, the primary system partition, and the 350MB recovery partition. When attempting to install it on my desktop...
I agree what is the point of getting an extreme edition Cpu if your not going to overclock it? That's like buying a Bugatti and never driving above the speed limit.
Adding a second 6950 in CF makes much more sense for the money than upgrading to a single 7000 series card. Also that is a solid cooler. But you could always go with something like an H80 or H100
That system seems like overkill to me if you are only doing the tasks you have listed, remote support, general multitasking, Photoshop, etc. But if you have the cash why not i guess... I would. If you don't game at all. I would reconsider the graphics card. If your going to be doing...
Borderlands 2 on high with physics on high. I am considering a gtx 660 but any other suggestions would be appreciated. also I use Photoshop, illustrator, Dreamweaver. I am also considering buying one of those Korean IPS panels 2560x1440 at some point for using CS6 but I plan on gaming on the...
I am looking to build a new system for gaming and CS6 (web design). Also other basic tasks like archiving music/video some light video encoding and using it to serve content over my home network to other computers.
I am having a dilemma picking a new CPU/MOBO. I used a Phenom 2 x4 945 for...
I need help picking out parts for a build.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Medium Gaming (borderlands 2 on high) light adobe suite cs6 for web design. and yes of course web browsing.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$700 after...
The Lian LI PC-B12B (the first one I listed) has foam to deaden sound and says that its built for silence, but I don't know if I like that its not painted black throughout. and I can't tell from the pictures how good the build quality is. Its also pretty pricey i think.
The Define was my...
I am looking to build a pretty powerful all around machine with a clean, quiet and efficient overall feel.
My last machine turned out to be a hot mess of noise from too many fans and a rattling front bezel also horrible cable management. This will be my second actual build and I want to do it...
Don't worry about Bios Settings. Just plug the hard drive into any Sata port II or III doesn't matter cause the bandwidth of sata 2 is already to much for your drive to saturate. Its all about bottlenecks. Its as if your hard drive is capable of producing a garden hose amount of water and...
$500 is a tough price for a "gaming" laptop. At that price there are definite trade-offs between performance, build quality, and mobility.
I would say best graphics bang for the buck at that price is something with one of AMD's APU's. A-6 or A-8 quad cores. I have an HP dv6-6117dx. I love...
The answer to this question seems to always be 'Yes!' I would upgrade to 8gb because it is a cheap upgrade. The more the better! Especially when using Photoshop which will eat up as much memory as you throw at it.
You have two options in order to stay within budget.
Option 1: Grab a new video card like some that have been suggested. Sure you will most likely be cpu bottleknecked but you will still probably see FPS increases depending at what res you play at. The update CPU, MoBO, Ram at later date...
I don't understand how the gtx650 is a lower end or should I say entry level card. its strange because looking at the specifications: it has 384 Cuda Cores!!! and with a 2gb version it seems that it would be a pretty powerful card. I know its only 128bit so its pretty memory bottle-necked...
I found a piece of software that has solved my problem: http://nosleephd.codeplex.com/
install it and select your external drive. Writes bits of data to your drive every specified period of time in order to keep the drive awake. works well so far.
Well after some thought I don't think the drive itself is taking 30 seconds to spin up. I mean I can access the content on the drive from my laptop around 10 seconds after it begins to spin up Its just that it can take more than 30 seconds to access the content remotely from my tablet which is...
This is the External enclosure I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817173042
The drive is a 7200RPM Seagate. Based on the sound of the drive as its spinning up it seems to take only 5-7 seconds. Accessing video from my nexus 7 when the drive is running at full speed...
I have an external 750GB hard drive with about 400GB of movies and 100GB of music on. I use an app called EMIT to stream this content to my phone and nexus 7 when I am on my network. The external Hard drive enclosure has both Esata and USB 2.0. I have it connected to my laptop via USB only...
I have an NZXT beta evo case and I have misplaced the hard drive rails that came with the case. Can someone suggest a creative way to mount a hard drive in this case without the rails or a place where I can find replacement rails?
Thanks.
16GB 1333 over 8GB 1600 all day! When it comes to Ram nowadays especially DDR3 frequency and timings arnt nearly as important as they used to be. You would be hard pressed to feel a difference between 1333 and 1600. I say More is better! go with 16GB!
dumb question but I have never done a raid setup before. I have two 7200rpm hard drives in my case. One is a 500GB Samsung spin point with 16mb cache and the other is a Seagate 650GB. My question is can I put these in raid 0 or do they have to be the same size and or brand? And if possible...
