Ok so FYI i'm an AV noob. My parents just got a new house that has several built in wall speakers (8 sets covering 4 rooms). The previous owners took all the receivers and AV equipment. I, as the resident geek was tasked with trying to figure out what to do with the in wall speakers. After much struggle I convinced my parents to buy the Sonos system consisting of the Sonos Sound bar, the Sonos Sub woofer, the Sonos Bridge and the Sonos Amp. My understanding is the Sonos Amp only outputs in Stereo and I have 4 rooms with 2 speakers each. What is my best option? I am thinking of getting them a Zone Selector since they have 2 speakers in the main living room, 2 speakers in the kitchen, 2 speakers in a bedroom, and 2 patio speakers.

Make sure any speaker selector you purchase has impedance matching.

I would personally purchase a dedicated AV Receiver (with multi-room outputs) for the multi-room stuff. Otherwise you are going to be stuck listening to the same sources in all of the rooms. It doesn't have to be high-end, and can be a fraction of the expense you already spent on the Sonos stuff.

I personally don't think the Sonos equipment was the best choice for what you are trying to accomplish here.

How many AVRs have multiroom outputs for 4 rooms? Most of the budget ones at best only have an "A" and a "B" set of speaker outputs....which may or may not be enough.

Sonos was a bad choice. Get a multi room AV. Let me see if I can find my list of good ones.

Uhhhh Sonos....no.

Go here: www.avsforum.com you can get lost for hours in there.....lots of great information.

What you choose to do really depends on how you want to use it, multiple sources going to multiple different areas, or one source across them all etc. The better modern AV receivers have iPad control applications that really come in handy. Typically those systems are used for ambient music, in which case a single source as the requirement is sufficient.
