Thanks, I'll try that as soon as I get home. Any other suggestions if that doesn't fix it? BIOS upgrade? I'm at revision 0501 and the latest one is 2106...so mine is pretty outdated.
I have not tried that yet. That's simply removing the battery for a few seconds then putting it back in right?
Forgot to mention, I brought the memory in to work with me and it works perfect in my work computer. One stick at a time and then both sticks at the same time...system booted just fine.
I guess I needed to seperate those two lines. There is no POST with either stick of memory installed.
When my computer boots up...normally, with the 4GB RAM installed...it says DDR3-1333 even thought the 4GB is DDR3-1600...The 4GB and 8GB have the exact same specs.
No post on either stick of RAM. On bootup my screen says DDR3-1333, but the RAM is DDR3-1600. Would that matter? The 4GB I have in there right now is DDR3-1600 and is working fine. Not sure why it says 1333. I've reset BIOS to factory defaults and still nothing. Could I have really gotten...
I have this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131406&Tpk=m4a785td and I just purchased this memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428&cm_re=ddr3-_-20-231-428-_-Product
When I put the RAM in and powered it on, nothing booted up. I...
I rebuilt my pc about 9-10 months ago and replaced everything except my hard drive. The HD is about 7-8 years old. Here's what I ordered for my pc when I upgraded it:

I just purchased a Dell UltraSharp U2311H monitor and it has a DisplayPort connection on it. I've done a little reading on it and there are several people that say DisplayPort offers better quality than HDMI. I do Photo editing with CS5 and I really want the best/most realistic results from my...
Thanks for the info. As far as RAM goes, can someone differentiate all the settings?
1066 vs 1333 vs 1600
PC3 8500 vs 10600 vs 10666 vs 12800
Cas Latency
Voltage
I don't understand the differneces on these and how 1 will benefit me over the other. I don't need the best of the best, but...
Ok, so my current PSU says:
TurboLink
Model: CWT-420ATX-12V (420W Max)
Do you need any other specs? Will this run my new setup ok? What I got was the Asus M4A785TD-V EVO w/ the AMD Phenom II x4 3.0GHz True Quad Core, Socket AM3
Still at work and doubt I'll feel like messing with my computer when I get home...assuming I do need a new PSU, is this combo a decent deal?

I appologize for sounding like a dick. I had a bad day at work and shouldn't have posted anything until I had calmed down. I do appreciate everyone's help on this site. I still haven't had a chance to get the specifics on my PSU, but will make an effort tonight and post what I find. Once...
My "reluctance" to do so? As I "suggest". Just maybe I was at work earlier today and didn't have access to my computer? When I have a sec to get into my computer, I will verify exactly what it is. I'm assuming with you posting this, 400W isn't adequate anymore?
I think I'm finally set on a total of 8GB for now. I've been reading up on CS4 and memory usage and it seems as though 8GB will be more than enough to get me by. I'm looking at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231275
As far as Power Supply, my original one died...
Ok, so I bought this combo kit and now I need some RAM. My dilemma is whether to get a 2x2GB kit of RAM or go for the 4GB single stick. If I do the 2x2GB option, I'll only be able to get 8GB in the system...which will probably be enough. I know CS4 can use 7+GB RAM and if I have 8GB in the...
Ok, here's what I'm looking at so far. Let me know any experience or opinions you have on these:

How's this a poor use of money? I have $250ish today to spend for MB & CPU, then I'll have $200 or so in 2 weeks for the RAM. I have a case, power supply, hard drives, etc already purchased. I'm not strechting this out over 6 months or anything. All parts will be purchased within a 2-3 week...
If I had $600-$1k to spend on a system, I would...but I don't and that's why I'm asking for suggestions in the $200-$250 range for MB & CPU. I've seen several Dual core kits in that range. My current system is a 2.6MHz single core from roughly 7 years ago...so just about anything will improve...
Just to clarify, $200-$250 is for the MB/CPU. I'll get the RAM after I figure out which MB to get. I'll have another $200 or so to get RAM. Thanks for the responses so far. I'll start going through them.
I'm looking for suggestions on a Motherboard/CPU combo. I've looked at TigerDirect but I'm not sure what all the new equipment is(built my last computer 7 years ago). I know I need at least 8GB RAM and I'm not planning on overclocking or anything crazy.
1) What will you be doing with this PC...
and I've not had to research this stuff in years. I pulled up TigerDirect and it looks like my options are Socket775, AM2/AM2+, and AM3. I'm assuming Socket775 is Intel and AM is AMD. I need a MB that can hold at least 8GB RAM. That's my primary concern and I'll figure out the rest from...
I tried rebuilding my computer last night and now I can't get it to boot. I have an 80GB drive that was plugged into SATA3, I have 2 1TB drives plugged into SATA 1 & SATA 2. Now when I try to reload my OS, it only detects what's in SATA 1 & 2 as drives I can install the OS to. I put the 80GB...
The photos are shot in RAW format then converted to TIF at around 112MB per image. I usually have 8-12 photos loaded into CS4 at once. I also use LightRoom in my workflow. LightRoom seems to run fine on my laptop, which is a standard Dell Vostro 1710. CS4 kills the laptop. Especially...
So here's what I'm looking at so far. Please tell me if this combo is inadequate:
Mobo & CPU combo http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.198627
RAM x2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227298 or...
Current CPU is a 2.8 P4...from 4-5 years ago.
So far all the Mobo's have been AMD proc's. Is that just cause they are cheaper, or just better? I'm sure this is debatable, but if I can get equal performance out of cheaper hardware, I will.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc ---Photoshop
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? ---$500
3) Where do you live? ---Southwest Missouri
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific...
The only things I'll use from my existing setup are the case and HD's. It will be used 99% for Photoshop. I don't game, so I can't see myself using this for any other purpose. When you say quad core, are you talking about 1 CPU split 4 ways, or 4 CPU's? I know I'll need tons of memory, but...
What MB & CPU would be a good fit for the workload? Do I need 2 cores? Dual or Quad core? I haven't built a pc in several years and I've not stayed up to date with what all the options are.
