I rebuilt my pc about 9-10 months ago and replaced everything except my hard drive. The HD is about 7-8 years old. Here's what I ordered for my pc when I upgraded it:
RAM-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277
Motherboard-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131398
CPU-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103696

I am a part time photographer and spend a lot of time in Photoshop so I'm looking at upgrading the RAM to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428&cm_re=ddr3-_-20-231-428-_-Product and keep my 4GB giving me 12GB total. And I'm looking at this hard drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._re=6.0gb/s_hard_drive-_-22-136-533-_-Product I'm hoping the 6.0Gb/s interface and 64MB Cache will speed up the processing of files within Photoshop. I know my motherboard doesn't have the SATA 3 connections, but I can get an add on card for $25 to enable this. Will this HD increase the opening of files and batch processing within Photoshop? If not, what would be the most beneficial upgrade to my system to increase the speed of opening and processing files? Windows 7 x64 is my OS.

Sata 3 on a mechanical drive is pointless.. This drive is better bang for buck. As fast, but considerably cheaper. Beyond that raid 0 or ssd if you want faster.

Thanks for the link. Would the 32MB Cache vs 64MB Cache make any difference?

The larger cache may speed up large file transfers. It does nothing at all whatsoever for random file accesses.

And the reason why we recommend a hard drive upgrade to a newer model is because your old hard drive(s) cannot sustain even 50 MB/s even on the outer tracks (that's no more than one-third the speed of current-generation drives) - and are all likely PATA rather than SATA. Many newer motherboards have no PATA ports at all.
