Why don't PC cases have 5.25" external drive bays anymore?

I surrendered. Didn't like doing it, but... yeah. Although I picked up a case with a 5.25 bay, it's filled just with a DVD-RW lightscribe drive. Rather than fight the problem of not having front-of-case customization, I just gave up and hid the whole case. I don't care about aesthetics...

16TB for under $50? Not sure if this is legit.

Thank you everyone. I'm in need of a new storage drive and I'll probably just go with a traditional 3.5" spinner. It'll store mostly images and pre-edit video taken from a 4K camera and will be on a separate computer from the one where I do most of my media work, just as a backup. I think it...

16TB for under $50? Not sure if this is legit.

I haven't posted here for a while, but I saw on Newegg when looking for a new data storage drive that they're selling what looks like a thumb drive and they're advertising it as a 16TB drive priced at under $50. There are no reviews of the product so I'm not sure what to think? Fact or...

Infinity (well-reviewed and highly regarded) reference series home theatre speakers are extremely low priced right now.

Couldn't hurt, as long as you have some kind of rubber feet in between to keep the upper speaker from sliding off the lower one. The vibrations of a sub could cause that to happen if it's loud for a while. How is the sound and coverage from it? I've never actually heard music from this R...

I would recommend calling them. I had to call them to get the ball rolling. Be sure to make mention of the black Friday price so that they don't overcharge you. Kinda sucks the a manufacturer of such good products has such terrible communication and logistics.

Infinity (well-reviewed and highly regarded) reference series home theatre speakers are extremely low priced right now.

Both for under $340 total here. They're clean sounding, as if they were in sealed, non-ported enclosures, and yet somehow they make that sound out of ported boxes. They don't really match my other speakers with the grilles off, and they look like space heaters with the grilles on, so they're...

Infinity (well-reviewed and highly regarded) reference series home theatre speakers are extremely low priced right now.

They arrived today. They both appear to have no defects and so far seem good. I've been running a lot of tests for the purpose of aiming them and setting gain/crossover/etc. levels, so it's been mostly tone generator tests and white noise tests so that I get a balanced flat response in as much...

[Somewhat Alive] MEGASALE: JBL Studio Series Home Audio Speakers (590, 580, 570, 530, 520c, 550p Subwoofer)

Looks like they're still on sale. If you're serious about keeping them long, long term, they're worth the purchase while they're still in production as a matching set, at almost any price. If you upgrade every so often, I'd say forget it, because there will always be that better item or better...

Infinity (well-reviewed and highly regarded) reference series home theatre speakers are extremely low priced right now.

I only bought two because they will be placed under my main two speakers. Hopefully my measurements worked out well and they'll fit just right. The price was low enough that buying a second didn't break the bank. Wife doesn't mind at all considering I just replaced an old home-grade...

Infinity (well-reviewed and highly regarded) reference series home theatre speakers are extremely low priced right now.

You know, I think that center channel C263 has identical drivers to the towers. I'm curious to know what they do to account for the difference in enclosure space. It should be a very good center speaker though. Some good news, some bad news, some worse news: Good news, as of today, they said...

[Somewhat Alive] MEGASALE: JBL Studio Series Home Audio Speakers (590, 580, 570, 530, 520c, 550p Subwoofer)

I was comparing the Infinity R12 to the JBL Stage A120P. The Infinity had a flatter frequency response and held it's response down to lower pitches/frequencies before the rolloff when compared to the A120P. The Infinity also had a significantly stronger amplifier. I was comparing those two...

[Somewhat Alive] MEGASALE: JBL Studio Series Home Audio Speakers (590, 580, 570, 530, 520c, 550p Subwoofer)

Infinity is an amazing speaker brand. I posted about their similar (or better) sale. JBL and Infinity are both Harmon International. I bought 2 powered 12" infinity subs (better specs than the 12" JBL, even though JBL is still awesome) for under $340, including free shipping and free tax...

Also, sorry about not including a link; it's just that at some forums, you can get a warning of being banned (or banned if not first offense) for posting a thread advertising something for sale (spam). Another poster did the favor of posting the link though, and thank you for that. I really...

Infinity (well-reviewed and highly regarded) reference series home theatre speakers are extremely low priced right now.

I have a pair of JBL S38BE that are almost as old as my 1995 Infinitys. They're surround speakers for the same system, even though they don't aesthetically match. They're in a different part of the room, so it still looks ok. I like them quite a lot for their clarity, and since their woofers...

I'm not meaning to spam. Therefore I won't include a link as you're smart enough to figure things out if you're interested. I have been an Infinity fanboy for a long time, especially since I mostly listen to a pair of speakers I bought in 1995, that have been pounded through DJ jobs that they...

What the max amount of money you all would spend on a 120" screen ?

My wife once damaged our garage door with her car. The replacement door ended up being around $1200 since it was insulated to keep in heat and was big enough for two trucks to get through one door. Granted, I'm using a 1024*768 projector that's further reduced due to the movie being in...

Why don't PC cases have 5.25" external drive bays anymore?

My newest case is that case (Define 7). You won't be disappointed for the most part. I think cable management was a small issue, but only because of the limited options with my power supply. If I had bought some different PSU wires, it would have been a super easy build. I didn't care enough...

Why don't PC cases have 5.25" external drive bays anymore?

I think that both sides of this have good points, and it's not my place to say which is right or wrong for anyone else but myself, even though my earlier posts were strongly worded as though it should be true for all. I just don't want people who want the older formats to lose that option. I...

27" 1080 Eye strain relief productivity monitor

It's all set up at work. The monitor seems to be as good as advertised, except I think there's a stuck pixel. I'll investigate that tomorrow. Like any monitor, it was shipped with settings too bright, but opening a Word doc and adjusting brightness to match a piece of paper beside the monitor...

27" 1080 Eye strain relief productivity monitor

The decision makers at my work gave me all I asked for and more, without even charging any of the cost towards my yearly supply budget. I somehow got lucky. So that dell I was describing above and in the other thread will arrive soon from what I've been told, but better yet, they bought me a...

New work monitor for an old work computer

So the decision makers at work are telling me that I could potentially get a new computer too, provided it's within a reasonable price range. Not sure what that would be for them yet, but for the purposes of this thread, that means I'm not limited to just VGA video out anymore. So I'm looking...

Why don't PC cases have 5.25" external drive bays anymore?

I use my card readers at least weekly at home and at least monthly at work. Most people I know that work in an office, myself included, cannot be nearly as productive on a laptop as they could on a desktop computer. Ergonomics when it comes to human interface devices is extremely important to...

Why don't PC cases have 5.25" external drive bays anymore?

Anti-Physical Media rhetoric is simply a way to make sure companies benefit from all sales so that used sales disappear. I hate this. I am allowed to sell my disc to the next guy when I'm done, but now the next guy doesn't have a player and instead he'll just buy at full price, eliminating reuse...

New work monitor for an old work computer

I read on another web site that the old blue VGA cables don't support newer resolutions. Is this true? My 12 year old 1920x1200 monitor seems to work fine with a VGA cable when needed but I usually use a DVI cable for it. Would a 2560x1440 resolution be supported by the old VGA cable? If...

New work monitor for an old work computer

I'd really like height/swivel/tilt as that would keep me from buying a separate mounting kit, but I think most decent monitors include that. What features or types of display technology are better for long term use to reduce eye strain? What brands seem best for reliability?

New work monitor for an old work computer

Good day fellow [H]ardForumers, I am back to working onsite rather than at home. My onsite monitor is 1440x900 and is small. I brought in my own personal Samsung SyncMaster 275t+ (27", 1920x1200, around $900 back in 2008) for a couple days back in early March before we were all sent home to...

Why don't PC cases have 5.25" external drive bays anymore?

I use my optical drives often. I noticed that getting USB C, 5.25 bay (optical), and 3.5 bay (card reader) can't be had together as far as I can tell, so I had to use an external card reader on my newest box which does have 5.25 and USB C. If it had a second 5.25 bay, I could adapt it down to...

Are there any technical advantages to the new type-C front panel connector standard?

OK. I completely understand what each is and what it does, EXCEPT: What does each header look like an a motherboard so that I can choose an appropriate case to compliment the motherboard? I know what USB 2 headers look like. I'm reasonably sure I can identify a common USB 3 (now called 3.2...

Need a basic case, using old one for a different build.

Left out one thing. Filtration. Since the case will be mostly inaccessible, having good filtration on all intakes would be very helpful. If the case lacks a filter, I suppose I could mod it though with the stuff that you jam into air conditioners or air cleaners. What kind of USB type C...

Thanks again to those who helped on this thread. This new computer seems to be a big improvement over the last one. It is good for this covid working at home thing and also for entertainment. Video rendering is fast, and that seems to be the tallest task for it. The old hardware from the old...

Can I use old Corsair PSU?

I still use the tongue test to see if 9v batteries have a decent charge left in them. A newly bought battery will give you quite a bite, and a weak one is only a slight tingle at best.

Can I use old Corsair PSU?

Capacitors sometimes hold their charge longer than expected, so I'd avoid touching them or where they connect to the board if it was recently powered up. If your hands are clean and you have a hand on the case, you'll be grounded and won't cause any electrostatic discharge damage. Some people...

    price/performance AVR recommendations

I've been pounding speakers for 25 years on an old Pioneer AV receiver at hundreds of DJ jobs while still using it daily at home. It is only rated to put out 110-120 watts continuous at most, and I've been pushing two speakers at 8 ohms and two at 4 ohms (both main, not in surround) at absurdly...
