Surfing the web and running assorted office apps is exactly what they will use it for. Possibly photoshop, but when I say photoshop, I mean like cropping a photo or getting really “advanced “ by adjusting the exposure.
Thanks for all of the replies!!!
So, I spoke with my parents. They do not wish to throw money/parts at a relic. Thankfully, they came to this decision on their own and I did not have to try and talk them into it. So, that is the direction that we're headed.
I mentioned before that in...
Thanks so much for all of the replies!!!
Yes, I meant GB, LOL.
Hard drive is a WD Blue, 7200 RMP, 1TB. I can certainly put in an SSD. Windows 10 was a free upgrade, so I'm not sure I can do a clean install as there is probably no physical media. I'll have to look into cloning.
A dedicated...
My parents PC is old, really old, from 2014 based on the last BIOS update.
Pentium G3220 @ 3.0GHz
4MB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics
Windows 10
It running really slow. I've managed to speed it up a tiny amount by disabling startup items. Also cleaned up a couple of items with Malwarebytes. But...
I haven't been on in a while, but there use to be a new build form that asked a bunch of questions (What's your budget, what are your intended uses, monitor size, do you have an OS, etc) that you could fill out an someone would help you with a build. I don't see this offered anymore. Did it go...
I want to change web hosting services. Godaddy has become far too expensive. On top of their already high prices, I got an email saying that they are going to start charging $12/mo, per email address. That seems ridiculous to me, especially at 8-10 email addresses.
I am a little concerned...
I need a video card to drive my two 32” UHD monitors. There is a deal going right now for XFX 5700 and 5700xt. I’m suspecting maybe that is too much video card for my current rig and I’d be pissing money away. Thoughts and insights??
Intel Core i5-4690K CPU
Asus Z97-A Intel Z97 Motherboard...
Win 7. I never got around to upgrading when it was free.
As to the drivers. I have not installed any new drivers, but I have not updated drivers in a long time either. I have not had any issues until now, so I haven't updated them.
I am getting frequent BSOD's. I recently installed two UHD monitors and I am running them off a super old GPU, a Sapphire HD7850 from 2012. Can someone help me figure out if this is definitively a GPU problem or something else?
It will not let me upload the two files mentioned in the error...
Agreed on the reason for changing out the gpu. I appreciate all of the help and feedback as I do not have the time to relearn and get caught up on the lastest gpus and games.
I've been out of gaming for some time now, but would definitely like to have the option in the future. 1080P is...
Local BB has these two options instock:
XFX Radeon RX560
and
XFX Radeon RX580
I have $15 credit at BB so the 560 would be $115. OR, I can get BB to price match Amazon and I could pick up the 580 for $175.
I'm assuming that the 580 is worth the extra $60???
I haven't played a game in a few years, but if I did want to play a game, can it still be done somehow? Play at a lower resolution in game?
What about Photoshop? Still using CS5, not sure if it tries to use the gpu or not.
My video card is very dated. First release date is 2012.
Sapphire HD7850
I bought of pair of these:
LG 32" UHD 4K
First, will my card even drive the resolution, 3840x2160?
Second, will my card drive the resolution X2?
Last, there is no DVI input on the monitors, can I run 1 HDMI and 1 DP at...
Malwarebytes and MSE both do not detect any threats. I have run both many times. That is why I think that I am not infected, but have something residual effing me up.
I am getting temp internet files with the file extension downloaditkeep. I have also found it associated with my Thunderbird mail files.
I believe that the downloaditkeep malware itself is no longer present on my Win7 machine. However, I do believe it is causing some residual issues.
I get...
Hopefully this is the right place to post this.
I am sure my issue is beyond simple, but I am not a coder and I cannot figure it out.
How do I change the color of the font to black on the mailto and hyperlink below? They display as a very light grey on my page

So, the water cooler definitely was not seated properly. I had the compound on way too thick. Also, eventhough I had complete coverage on the cpu, the cooler had only made contact on about 90%. Whoops... Live and learn... Won't make that mistake twice.
So now on stock settings, it is idling...
I ran RealBench on stock settings and am averaging right at 80c. I'm thinking thats a little warm for stock. I think I will reapply thermal paste and reseat the sink. Then when I figure out what the heck I am doing in the BIOS, I know heat isn't the issue.
It think it is a good bet that I am misunderstanding something. I could OC on Award BIOS with not issue whatsoever. It made sense to me. I just cannot figure out the UEFI BIOS.
So, when I adjust voltage, I am setting controls to manual and assigning a fixed value. Instead of manual, should...
So I tried again to get some numbers.
Default Bios settings, the cores run at about 27-30 at idle and 79-83 at Prime95 load.
Changing only the Vcore from stock 0.993 to 0.995, the cores idle at 33-36 and instant BSOD at Prime95 load.
In fact, with the slight Vcore modification, I get a BSOD...
So, I built the following system a couple of years ago:
Intel Core i5-4690K CPU
Asus Z97-A Intel Z97 Motherboard
2 x Kingston HyperX Blu KHX1600C10D3B1/8G 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Samsung 840 Evo Series 250GB SSD
XFX TS Series XFX TS 550W PSU
Corsair Graphite Series 230T Black ATX Case

My kid needs a new rig. I tried out PC Hound, but the automatic builder would not function in two different browsers. So I tried building it myself and came up with this:
PC Hound Part List
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 6M ($199.99 @ B&H)
Motherboard: ASUS Z170-A ($139.99 @ Amazon)
Memory...
My website is getting dozens of visits a day from several foreign countries, 100% bounce rate, and 0 seconds spent on the site.
Mind you, dozens is significant as my site only gets maybe a handful of real visitors a week.
Also, recently I was warned by Google Webmaster Tools of a possible...
CPU you quoted being sold by third party, not amazon. OOS via amazon. Any reason not to ante up $20 and get the 4590? Wouldn't the faster stock speed be beneficial?
Also, no gpu needed?
They agreed to the $530 with no issue. However, after talking to them and explaining that by spending more now, they will not be sacrificing on performance and will be future proofing a lot better. I told them they really needed something more like my rig to achieve this. Here is a rig that...
Since to date they only really surfed the internet, their current rig is a budget machine i found for them at an office store years ago. I am not sure what it is, but it is likely a celeron or an older AMD with probably 2GB of RAM. It is definitely not up to the challenge. Even if it were, it is...
Thanks for the replies.
Unfortunately, I am not a video guy. I do photos, hence why I really need help figuring this all out. I will be learning video on the fly.
That being said, I have not researched any editing software. I will probably be looking for something free. If GoPro's...
My in-laws need a new computer. It needs to be capable of video editing, but please keep something in mind. While it needs to be capable of video editing, I suspect it will be used very little for this purpose. They just got a gopro and want to play with it, but they are not tech savvy in the...
I just started my overclocking process of my new 4690K. I know it is a crap shoot as to how much you get out of any processor, but I scoured the net to ascertain a good place to start. 1.25v and 4.4ghz seemed somewhat reasonable. When I ran Prime95 with those setting, temps immediately hit the...
Would you be able to point me to a guide for the Asus BIOS? I have tried google and have not succeeded in finding anything that helps. I did try to figure this out on my own before posting. Unfortunately, I do not have a ton of free time at the moment to figure out the BIOS via trial and...
