Just got my Dirt 3 HD 6950 2 days ago, flipped the switch, no go, unlike what the others in the item feedback have experienced... i then modded the bios with RBE and flashed (successfully), the shader count still didnt change... i RMA'd it to try my luck again.. battlefield 3 looked gorgeous...
Hi all, i had an ancient system I put together from '06, still been using it (Q6600 @3.2..4gig ram and 8800GT, in a sonata III 500w case).... i didnt spend more on a PSU so its just the default 500W.... Now I'm finally done with grad school and have some free time before moving to Boston for...
guess i'll hold my upgrades then....having enough of a hard time trying to work on my doctoral dissertation as it is atm... thanks for all the great advice folks !!
I really like the screen, and the way its at my desk its big enuf for me atm...sometimes i even get dizzy playing some FPS in fullscreen mode.... so i wont really see much improvement at these resolutions (1440 x 900 or 1200x 720-ish) by upgrading ?
just saw a very similar thread regarding the 8800GT upgrade...i'm in the same boat, however, i only have a samsung 19' screen which is only at 1440 x 900... and a 500w PS that came with the sunbeam sonata case, runnin on a 3.0ghz Q6600...

Anyone got Mythos invites left ? this morning i deleted Diablo2 & LOD expansion off my HDD, snapped the Play CD in half, in an effort to break my addiction.... now i need a substitute fix.... will PM my valid CD keys for D2 & LOD expansion..... Thx
hmm, i think i'll get another Sflex and put that behind the TRUE120EX on mine....wont that create too much negative presure in the case? since on my sonata III, i have one rear 120mm, one 120mm fan on the TRUE120 pushing toward the rear fan...if i get another fan on the TRUE to pull, wont that...
i was wondering about that, i think there was a thread that had a picture of a TRUE120 sandwiched by 2 fans, cant remember exactly where.....how much a temp drop was it? i think i might do the same thing....
Guys, on my DS3L, in bios i set my Q6600 to 1.35V to be stable for a 3.2ghz OC.....however, when its idle, under CPU-Z, instead of the 1.35V that was set in bios menu, i see its actually 1.280 idle, and under load prime95, w/ the Vdroop, it drops to 1.248...thats like almost 0.1 V lower than...
hmm...i thought about it and tried it too...but i got the Gskill 800 ram.....so if i OC it using 8x multiplier, with the system memory multiplier at 2.0, i'm still going to be running the ram at higher speed than its rated for....and it didnt work, even tho when running it at 854 did with the...
Oh the temp above is at 1.35V, 356x9 = 3.2ghz , not on stock speed tho,,, but i guess its still high ? i used STG1, just brushed a thin layer on the CPU and put on the U120..... but it rotates alot after being put on....thinking about checking the lapping on both IHS and CPU to confirm they are...
on the DS3L, even with 8x multiplier, if i go up past 3.2gig, it just locks up/ crashes etc, even w/ more juice ...maybe mine G0 is just not a great OC'er :/
idels ranges from 48 to 40, load 61 to 56...under prime95....which isnt THAT bad, when its underload.... its just the q6600 giving me BSOD when i try to go above 3.2+ ghz.... :/
i have lapped both the ihs as well as the u120...dropped like 6 degree off the hottest cores under prime95, from 67 to like 61-62..... havnt really tried 400x8... maybe i should ? its the same speed tho... thanks for the inputs !
Guys, i've followed the OC guide and got my Q6600 stable at 3.2ghz (356x9)...however, anything higher (367x9 or 3.4 3.5+ghz), no matter how much vcore i give it, windows vista just BSODs sometimes during prime95 runs, after booting into vista or right as vista loads...my memory is kept at...
Guys, i'm currently using Linksys' WUSB300N.....wirless N usb adapter....on a WRT54Gx2 router from linksys..... on vista, i get the stuttering problem using linksys's driver....this was fixed by marvell's driver update via windows auto-update....which was suggested during a search on...
cool thanks, when the breaks over, i'll test it out.. is it possible that i might sand it down too much on the IHS of the q6600 tho? thats my fear hehe
Guys, i've lapped my U120-E & Q6600's IHS ...with 150, 400, 800 grits of sand paper...for the CPU i did dry sanding....
at 3.2ghz, 356x9, 1.375v....used zalman's STG1 thermal grease, which i followed the manufacturer's instruction of putting a coat on HS & another on CPU.....my idle temp is like...
Hi guys, i did a search on google as well as here....didnt find the answer... after OC my Q6600 to 3.2ghz, it was stable o/n at 1.4v....i'm tryin to lower bit by bit....now when its around 1.375 or so,..after 3hrs into prime 95... an error message pops up in vista "PRIME95 has stopped...
Guys, i lookin through the stickies on OC a few times.......so i know that
FSB x CPU muliplier = CPU speed..... and FSB & DDR2 memory multiplier affect the max speed of the RAM......one thing i dont understand is this..... as you "loosen" the RAM to 5-5-5-15 & OC the CPU and give it more...
hehe thx...i think i might have to lap the the U120-E as well as the Q6600....hitting like 65-67 on 2 of the cores over 12 hrs of prime...seem hot...just doesnt have alot of time on my hand to do that atm :-/ But this is a huge step up from my old P4 2.4ghz....its like night and day..:D
i think the Gskill ram you got can take 1.8-2.0v..... i got a Q6600 with the same U120-E & Scythe-F fan, on 3.2 ghz with 356x9.... with 1.4v Vcore , +0.2 on RAM, +0.1 on MCH, +0.1 on FSB....prime95 stable for 12hrs.....havnt changed the RAM setting at all...what i found was that when i didnt...
