Still getting poor results :(
Only when I go up to 8mb then I get this:
ATTO doesn't do any better:
Is there something I am missing here?? The one decent benchmark I have seen (at least I think it is decent) is this one:
And even that one isn't very good...
I have...
Two WDC WD4000YS drives. I think this is the link: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136068
They are off my mobo's raid controller. The SSDs are off the 9260.
Thanks so much - I did what you suggested and I was able to recover everything. I had a sinking feeling I wasn't going to get anything back so it took me awhile to get up the nerve to try the recovery. Your suggestions worked perfectly though and I now have my data and have started using WHS for...
Just ran HD Tune on my raid0 array using two western digital drives and 128kb stripes. I get an average rate of 114 MB/sec and burst rate of 108.9 MB/sec. It means 4 x25-m drives are giving me around the same performance as two western digital platters??? What a depressing way to go into monday...
Finally got around to installing it... Seems to be really fast to me (never had an SSD before) but I'm getting some pretty depressing HD Tune 3.5 results. I am using the Win2k8 64bit driver, Win 7 RTM 64bit,4 drives with 1MB stripe size, write back, and I upgraded the latest firmware on the...
Hi,
I'm looking to build a server capable of hosting 3-5 VMs running database, server products, and some heavy computation. Possibly also want to run a VM for WHS and/or firewall. I'd like the hardware to be compatible with ESXi, Hyper-V, and win 2008r2 so I can choose what I want to run. I'd...
Great, thanks. You don't happen to know what windows home server's restore does as far as preserving do you? So it looks like maybe the safest option is to do a fresh windows 7 install, bit the bullet, and just copy all my files manually back and reinstall all my programs?
Thanks for the response.
I've never owned an SSD before but I think it would be pretty fast like you say. I'm a little concerned about all the work of reinstalling/copying my files back to the computer. I have 141 GB of programs and files on my current machine and some of the installers may be...
Hi,
I bought an LSI controller card and have 4 intel x-25m g2 drives. Currently I am running Vista on my desktop and I have it backup to WHS. How should I go about upgrading from my standalone hard disk to an ssd raid0 setup? I'm concerned WHS will not preserve alignment, and I'm not sure how...
Oh well - I pulled the trigger on the LSI already. Reading that review, it looks like each card has strengths/weaknesses. Maybe someday I will switch to the Areca. Thanks for the review - very informative.
Hi,
If I were to have four x-25m 160gb gen 2 drives, would it make sense to put all 4 in raid0 for performance? What is a good raid controller around the $200-$1000 range that would not be a bottleneck to having those in raid0? Some of the things I'm interested are:
1. Ability to do other...
Hi,
I had a raid0 running with a GA-X38-DQ6 but had blue screens and instability issues. I noticed a bios update that says "added support for Yorkfield". My cpu is a yorkfield, so I decided to update. Unfortunately, I think I didn't uncheck "clear cmos settings" or some option like that...
Thanks for the reply. I see on the monoprice site it has "optical toslink" ( http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10229 ). Is that what I need for the optical digital connection? I don't see "toslink" mentioned on the optical connections on my computer and z5500...
Hi,
I have the Z-5500 and a X38-DQ6 mobo. I notice on the back of the mobo there appears to be a coax labled "SPDIF" and then another that looks like an optical output. My control unit for the z5500 sit kind of off to the side because I dont' have room nearer the computer. I think I probably...
Thanks for the reply!
Sorry - I forgot to clarify that in my original post. I'd kind of like all the ports to be gigabit. I have 3 or 4 computers that I'd like to be able to transfer files between quickly (and access each other remotely). Basically, I'd like all ports to be gigabit if...
I'm looking for a gigabit switch that has between 8 and 16 ports. I'd like to get one of the faster/fastest ones out there, and I hear that jumbo frame support is something also that I might want. I'd like to keep the price under $200. Suggestions?
Thanks!
Wow! Is that the actual logged entries from your syslog? That's exactly what I need. I guess i'll pick one up on my way home then :). Thanks so much for the help!
I thought of that option, but I'd kind of like an easy to use/maintain consumer-level device. I might do something like IPCop later when I have more time/room to set something like that up.
My old Linksys 802.11b logs the ip/address of all the sites visited. It even sends it to a Linksys log...
Hi,
I have one of the early Linksys 802.11b routers. I have used it for many years now, and it works great. Recently I purchased a Linksys WRT54G or whatever the Linksys 802.11g router is. The 802.11g router was better for some stuff (802.11b would drop xbox live connections if two xbox 360s...
What type of logging does this have? The manual online is not very clear... I need it to log the urls/IP addresses of sites that users visit. In other words, when someone visits a site, I need it to log the URL that was used (for example "www.gmail.com". Does this log that information?

Very nice. How do you do that? Is there a case that will store that many drives? Do you just leave that box running as your "server", or do you just boot it up when you need to watch some recorded video? What OS do you run? Will you keep the same rocketraid controllers and just upgrade the...
Hi,
I just built a new system with a QX9650 and Gigabyte X38 mobo. I have 2 drives in RAID 0 and a third drive that isn't in RAID. I am running Vista 64 bit currently. I put the OS and programs/games on the RAID drives and other misc data on the third drive. If I install a 4th hard drive, is...
I plugged my dvi connector to the 8800ultra, and nothing displays when I start up. Also, the system turns on, and I hear a brief click/whir like one of the hard drives is spinning up or something, but then nothing after that... and I don't hear any beeps... Do motherboards have a built in...
Hello,
I put in an ultra 120 with an sflex fan. The mobo has a "cpu fan" power connector, but it has 4 pins. The fan has 3 wires and fits over only 3 of the pins. however, the tabs on the fan power plug line up with the tabs on the mobo connector... Its just that 4 pin is sticking out exposed...
Hi,
Do I uninstall the crazy cool sink on the Gigabyte X38-DQ6 before installing the ultra 120? Or, does the backplate simply go over the crazy cool backplate and you leave the crazy cool there? The instructions say "remove the crazy cool if you have a non-intel heatsink and need extra holes"...
Hi,
I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to building computers, and I need help installing the mobo on my new build. I installed the standoffs, and now I have the mobo and this I/O cover that has some sharp prongs sticking out on it. I read here: http://mechbgon.com/build/index.html that...
Awesome - thanks alot. What do you mean by "POSTS"? Do I need to do anything special when handling the cpu? Will acid from sweaty hands damage it?
Thanks again!
Hi,
I just bought my parts for my PC. I got an X38 mobo with an intel quad. I also got a 8800 ultra. How do I actually put this whole thing together? I am guessing I need to install the PSU in the case first? then the get the cpu in the mobo? Then install HSF? After that put the mobo in the...
