Hi,

I have the Z-5500 and a X38-DQ6 mobo. I notice on the back of the mobo there appears to be a coax labled "SPDIF" and then another that looks like an optical output. My control unit for the z5500 sit kind of off to the side because I dont' have room nearer the computer. I think I probably need a 10-15 ft cable min between the computer and the control unit. I want the best 5.1 surround sound I can get. What type of cable(s) do I need and which is the best way to go? Will it work to have an optical or coax cable run that far to the decoder/control unit?

Thanks,

Either one will work fine and you can get the cables at monoprice.

Yep, that's the one. Toslink is another way of referring to the optical cables. Some companies put that word on there, others just call it optical spdif.
