Whats everyone using for HTPC remote these days?

I use a harmony hub with the companion remote. It uses a CR2032 battery and it lasts a few months. I have it control my HTPC over bluetooth. If I need to use a keyboard and mouse, I use a logitech K400.

    Windows 10 / Atmos Problem / 4k HDR Output

Another stupid thing to try is what refresh rate are you using? I found using 59hz instead of 60hz sometimes reduced my video issues.

    Windows 10 / Atmos Problem / 4k HDR Output

Have you tried setting up as 4:2:2 or 4:2:0? Also on the KS8000 what do you have color space set to? It should be on auto.

    CPU Choice for HTPC/Plex Server

If its for playback you're better off getting a GPU with HEVC decoding. Something like a GT1030 or RX550 will do it. As far as the 2500k or 3570k, I don't think its going to matter you'll most likely get similar results in performance when it comes to 4k video. I've paired a GT1030 and RX460...

OLED 65" TV or 120 inch screen 4k projector ?

For me it depends on the room. If its a living room I'd probably lean more towards an OLED since there is more variables like lighting and space. If it was a basement or a media room meant primarily for movies I would go projector. I think it comes down to how much of the theater experience you...

Need a little help getting smooth 4k playback on HEVC

Only option that doesn't involve upgrading hardware would be to encode that video to H.264 which would take a while. I would say get a low end video card that does HEVC decoding like a GT1030 or RX550. My HTPC is using a RX460 with a Pentium G2020 and 4k HEVC playback is smooth. A GT 1030 is...

Getting an Xbox One X as a first console - recommend 10 games I should get for it

I'm getting an as well. I don't think you can go wrong with Halo Master Chief Collection and Halo 5. I would say getting Xbox Game pass and EA Access would give you access to a bunch of games to start with. I think this is a good place to start. http://www.gamesradar.com/best-xbox-one-games/...

    4K gaming

No doubt there are factors that will affect someones decision differently. For me I use my XB1 way more then my PS4. The only games I have for the PS4 are exclusives, the rest I have on the XB1. So the PS4 Pro is actually not a great value buy for me in comparison to the XB1X even taking into...

    4K gaming

I would say if you can wait and afford it go with Xbox One X. Xbox One X has additional memory for higher resolution textures. Also if you have any interest in 4k blu rays the Xbox also has a UHD blu ray drive.

Starcraft Remastered is not free cost $15

$15 is less then I would've initially expected. I figured it would be $20+ if not $30. I think $15 is reasonable for Starcraft and Broodwar remastered.

    Power draw, who cares...

For my main rig I don't really care about power draw that much. The only time power would come in to play is if performance and price is similar then I may consider power as a deciding factor. For my file server or HTPC I tend to put power draw slightly higher because these are systems that are...

    Emulators

On the XB1 BC 360 games have full support xbox live, multiplayer, and achievements. As far Wii U CEMU has been improving in performance with each update. I don't think it has online support but I can't say for sure I haven't followed it very closely.

    Notable Xbox one exclusives?

Gears of War 4 is good. With backward compatibility you can play the 360 versions if you were interested in experiencing the entire series. For single player I thought Halo MCC was excellent. The Forza horizon series is great and you can experience all of them on Xbox One. If you're more of a...

Open world - wearing me out

I feel the opposite in many cases. I enjoy open world games, I guess I like the idea of being able to go around the world and having perspective on the world in relation the geography. For myself games that are on rails yeah take a little of the immersion for me. So part of its freedom, but also...

Inside the Next Xbox: Project Scorpio Tech Revealed

    Available UIs for HTPCs

As far as HTPC there aren't any real good frontends when it comes to having Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Especially if you want something that you can use the harmony remote. For those with families: How much game time do you get?

For me goes up and down. When my kids were young and I was in the military it would go 0-10 hours during the week. Then on the weekends I would get more in like 2-4 hours. Now that my kids are older and I'm out of the military I can usually average more depending on what shift I'm can usually...

HDMI from PC to AVR for both audio and video?

As stated in previous posts the way you have it is best option. I used it on my HTPC for years. You just have to make sure the media players are setup to bitstream. One thing you have to take into consideration is games, I don't know of any PC that bitstream audio like Dolby Digital or DTS. So...

Christopher Nolan Urges Fans to Watch Films in Cinemas, Not Netflix

I like going to the theaters for certain movies, mainly action movies. But I also only like IMAX non 3D because the sound between the IMAX vs the non IMAX in my area is quite noticeable. I'm big into sound I like it to be loud and the subwoofer to hit hard. I consider myself a home theater...

    Ryzen with 3600MHz RAM Benchmark

Upgrading to Ryzen, what is your old/soon to be replaced system

I'm considering a R7 1700 build. I have a 2600k at about 4.4GHz. Interested to see how game performance is improved. I'm just wondering how much...

The only negative I've seen for Ryzen is the gaming performance at 1080p. From what I've seen the 1700x and 1800x are priced great from a content creation perspective. I'm no CPU engineer so I don't know how much a bios update or optimization to games will improve performance. But from I've...

Xbox Game Pass: Unlimited Access to More Than 100 Games

I like this better then PSNow. I would atleast rather have access to play and be rendered on a local machine then streamed. On top of that I like the idea having the option to purchase the game at a discount. I don't like how with PSNow the only option is rent or subscription.

Microsoft to Block Non-Windows Store Apps in Windows 10?

I can see this happening as an "option". This is something I would have enabled for my parents computer. I don't see microsoft completely locking down windows to only use "approved" software only.

Damn, its nice to see people getting legitimately EXCITED for an AMD product

No it won't diminish the success of Ryzen but I'm talking about future generations. I don't want to see something like when the FX series get released and they get dominated by their compeition.

Damn, its nice to see people getting legitimately EXCITED for an AMD product

Yes I'm happy that people are excited about AMD. Regardless if you're Intel only person, AMD being competitive is good for the industry. I do think Intel was getting a little on the lazy side the past few years. I was really upset with AMD when they released Bulldozer. If everything I see is...

Personally I've been enjoying the XB1 since day one. I thought it was great day one. I use my XB1 way more then my PS4. 4K HEVC Playback

RX 460 should be fine for 4k bluray, if it works on XB1s hardware wise the RX 460 will be fine. Problem is drives are expensive and don't think there is software support yet.
  38. Q

    4K HEVC Playback

Kaby lake should have support for 4k HEVC 10bit. I think getting a GTX 1050 or RX 460 will be the easiest option.

Anyone have a 9+ channel AV receiver connected via HDMI to a PC GPU?

Don't quote me but I don't think there is support in windows for Dolby Atmos or DTS:X which would probably give it ability to do anything higher then 7.1. As far I've seen there isn't any source material with 9.2 so the receiver would most likely be processing the audio to add for those extra...
