Awesome. Totally old school. The 8xxx laptops inspired the first Windows laptop fan management software (i8kfangui) that I can recall. Not that you needed it, but it was cool.
I want to preface this. 10 years ago I owned a Dell Inspiron 8000 with the original mobile GeForce chip and a 1 GHz Pentium 3. It was awesome. The screen was great. Thermal management was by a heatsink with dual non-centrifugal fans. It was never loud, and it wasn't actually that big either...
I recently ordered a couple Newegg deals found on the [H]. Looking at the order status pages, I see that they don't charge your credit card at shipping any more. Is this a new normal that I wasn't aware of? I thought all reputable online retailers charge when the order leaves the warehouse...
As if Steve Jobs invented the die-shrink... This is not an Apple-centric industry trend.
Classic Jobs attack technique: be a condescending douche about somebody or something ("teaching" Intel about chip design) and then make a tangential half-compliment (Intel is the best for high power...
Do not do this. Anybody who has worked in fire prevention and saw this thread probably barfed on their keyboard.
Also, your insurance company will be unsympathetic to an unsafe electrical device causing catastrophic damage to your house.
Also, a real live person sleeping on top of...
I tried 11.8 also. The rig has been rock solid for about 2 years except in this instance. The PSU is a SeaSonic unit and I think I'm reasonably within the power envelope. I will try a different PSU as soon as possible though.
I sort of have a fix. I will probably stick with this since it's less pain than an RMA.
The error was "ATI display driver stopped responding and was recovered" or something close to that.

Part in question is MSI 6950 Twin Frozr II, new.
When starting a Furmark or OCCT type stress utility, 99% of the time the desktop (Win7 64) hangs and then delivers a successful-driver-restart message. Sometimes the stress utility proceeds but usually the process has to be terminated...
This may belong in the cases forum.
I've confirmed a 5970 will fit in the Antec Twelve Hundred. Based on Antec's marketing photos, the interior of the One Hundred is similarly laid out. Are there any examples of long video cards in the One Hundred? Is there 12+ inches of video card space...
The contractors the AF selected to manufacture ABUs have such poor quality control that the pants and shirts (blouses) rarely match. Sometimes it's subtle, and sometimes you see a guy walking around and it's just... WTF...
Hopefully we do not see a repeat with the multicam.
UPDATE: The 5570 appears fully functional in the x8 slot if the x16 slot is populated by anything -- even an x1 NIC. I will check for stability and any performance impacts later today.
That's a good point.
The block diagram in Intel's product spec indicates direct interconnection between the x8 slot and the 1156 socket, but it's possible that's not exactly how things were implemented. I also get a PCI-to-PCI bridge entry in device manager when using the x8 slot. That...
- Sapphire Radeon HD 5570
- Intel DP55SB (P55 chipset mobo)
The motherboard is capable of PCIe x16 or x8/x8. Due to a strange case layout, I need to run the card in the second (x8) PCIe slot.
In the first (x16) slot the card behaves normally and will FurMark all day long.
In the...
Monster is making their claim based on at least one design patent, not a utility patent. Design patent lawsuits are very difficult to win unless the defendant has carbon copied the design.
Fanny Wang's argument in the (inarticulate) response letter is that their design cannot reasonably be...
Goal is privacy protection through a VPN service like VyprVPN. Intent is not to screw the VPN service provider out of subscription dollars for multiple clients, but rather to have a consolidated solution at the home.
I know this question is probably more complex that it looks. I appreciate...
My knowledge is pre-CCNA, so I'm reaching ahead of the curve here.
I've been pondering VPN/proxy services and their implementation in protecting a home internet connection. I understand VPN to be a client-oriented system, meaning every computer on a network needs special software or...
Received my switches yesterday. Packing was as described -- very impressive. Haven't done a check-out yet, but cosmetically they are in great condition
Warm-up is NOT the same thing as break-in. Most Class A amplifiers have DC biasing circuitry to compensate for temperature variation in the output stage components. This has nothing to do with the idea that an op amp somehow changes over weeks of normal operation.
Citation needed.
Impedance is a function of capacitance, so at first this sentence reads a little strange.
Actually, the capacitors in question (made by NEC) have high capacitance and very low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance), which is a component of the capacitor's impedance. The difference is worth...
Yes, those. Thanks for posting your pics/description. I am immediately pleased with the decision to pick these up.
I don't see 2950s as a waste at all. It's about build-up.
This triggers my BS detector as well. Speakers are mechanical, and they break in due to the surround (the part that centers the cone and coil) being pliable and physically changing over time. An op amp is a solid state electronic device. Unless subjected to excess heat or radiation (or...
There is an online store selling 2950T switches for about $120 (this one) from "bulk" stock. Looks like the typical New York warehouse, which I have never had a problem with, but I have to wonder if the product is counterfeit given the price. Doesn't Cisco go after counterfeiters aggressively?
What was/is your Cisco cert path? How did you do it?
I am testing for CCNA in a few weeks after spending years in a different technical field. (EE by education.) It's mostly a personal challenge at this point, to learn something new. Back in the day I would fix computers for gas money and...
Maybe the question should be: Who has the most money? The last estimate I saw put total corporate cash reserves at over $1 trillion. (This is legal, and I don't have an opinion beyond that.)
With the recent supreme court ruling, corporate entities can now spend directly into the political...
