Just to update and bump, it seems like using sysprep is fairly common while migrating onto a different hardware set (HAL and mass storage specifically). I was initially inclined on adding HAL and mass storage drivers manually (or by script, same thing) but it has proven to be a fruitless task...
Installing on each machine separately is not an option. Imaging a "model" machine with all the drivers and software is not an option or at least not good enough because all the software licenses will be cloned, which is not acceptable (for them) either.
As a part of the project to upgrade the infrastructure at the local university, right now I'm in process of migrating from the old to the new systems. Both are (and will be) using XP pro OEM (there are around 15 new DELL machines right now but we're looking to find a scalable method that doesn't...
Man, this is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. However for the price I can pick up 2 Spacesavers which should be near similar in size. I am looking through that forum though, so hopefully that'll set my mind on something. Thanks for replies everyone
Here's the deal. I need a new keyboard. Right now I'm using a "low-profile" keyboard - almost like a laptop keyboard. Typing on that thing isn't very convenient, keys sometimes don't register or get stuck or something else. Cleaning it is a mess too. What I'm looking for is, ideally, a "clicky"...
I've recently switched to Vista due to the new system build and apparently many people are having a similar problem as I do. I can't use my mic - the "Microphone" input in Vista is checked but there is no jack information. The other "Microphone" device with the jack information is grayed out...
I'm getting display from the first slot just fine. However, the board would power on and off 2 times before POSTing if jumpers are in the non-Crossfire position. It's supposedly related to the way BIOS applies new settings and not the card/faulty mobo. I'm not the only one having this problem...
For some reason my mobo (Biostar I45) won't run my Palit HD4850 in x16 mode, so I have to turn Crossfire on to make it x8-x8 instead of x16-0. Am I taking a big hit on performance by running it in x8 mode?
After some research on the mobo, a fix was found, which involves turning on the Crossfire via jumper config. However, this makes the PCI-E to run at x8 speeds as opposed to x16. Does that affect the speeds a lot on the 4850?
Put together an all-new rig, when I press the power button, it'd spin up and light up for a few seconds, then power down (mobo LED still on). Then repeats that cycle again (spin up for a few sec, turn off). Then it can finally POST and everything seems well. I suspect the motherboard but l need...
Looking for an iron for general soldering jobs. Ideally a station that lets me control the temps and has some sort of a rest to put the iron on. A friend of mine owns a Weller station (forgot model), which I like very much, so looking for something of the similar design. Not sure about how much...
My current card (terrible) puts out enough amplification so that I only need a few notches from the bottom to reach a comfortable level. Wouldn't that be the case with the newer and better cards as well?
Somewhat set on Xonar DX right now.
Building a new system and looking for something to drive my Sony MDR-V600s. I game quite a lot and listen to music as well, so I'm looking for a fairly budget card that is good for both of those tasks. Seeing all this Vista sound card talk I think I need to specify that I indeed will be using Vista.
I like the unanimity in your opinions, however I was planning on getting a modular PSU (the dust and heat collected by unused cables is being a pain in the ass in this region). So are Corsair's modular offerings as good as the non-modular models? In other words, could I just grab a similar...
I'm building a new rig and want for it to last, so the question being, which CPU can I get right now that's going to perform well for a while (in terms of performance in games, firstly). I realise that E8400 is a pretty good deal right now, but in the long run, should I be aiming for C2Q instead...
I'm building a new gaming system and need to decide on the PSU. The components are the following:
Biostar I45 mobo
C2D E8400
G.Skill 2x2Gb PC1000
HD4850
2x SATA HDD
DVDRW SATA Optical drive
4-5 120mm fans
From a calculator, this setup takes ~500W, so I'm probably looking for PSU that's...
I'm building a new rig and planning on running an overclocked E8400. I was wondering what HSF should I go for to cool this. The air cooling sticky seems to be outdated. I searched around and stopped on TS Ultra-120. Is it a good HSF to run this CPU with? Are there clearance issues with...
Thanks for a great reply. I'll look into the mobo options that you posted.
Just to clarify, I only need a few SATA ports/RAID capability/one PCIE 2.0 slot but need good overclocking. So I'm looking at either DS3R or P5QPro right now.
I heard good things about E8400 as well, but Q6600 seems to...
First of all, SORRY for not posting models of what I think mathes my description - I realise it's a bad manner but I'll try to update this thread with my findings along the way.
I am planning on building a new rig and since I fell out of the hardware loop for a while, I'm asking you |H| guys...
Got my 2gig iNickel about a week ago...it was getting shorted by static but I fixed it...now it's stable as a mofo :D still, quality is somewhat flaky out of the box. if you're ready to crack it open, for $40, can't be beat.
I need a program capable of batch encoding of the tracker files (.xm, .mod, etc.) that uses Ogg/LAME. The problem I'm having with one particular piece of software is that it doesn't detect the end of the tracks, making it one large track instead. I, however, need them in separate files. Suggestions?
Figured I need a laptop for school. I'm new to the laptop market so I need any advice i can get. I was looking for a machine that doesn't come with an OS or any software bundle crap. My budget is around $1k canadian (that'd be about $880 US after everything) but I need this as cheaply as...
Building a gaming machine for a customer, kind of stuck with the choice Creative gives me in terms of which version of X-Fi to use. Any suggestions? Also, what's the big female connector on some cards for?
Why don't you just remove the files manually as well as the registry entries pertaining to 'CCC' or 'ati' etc. Then run DC again in safe mode (under Administrator).
Building a gaming system for a customer; what I need is a case, I figure it needs a side window with intake, room for 120mm fans, nice flashy design, good airflow. Something along those lines. Again, it's for the customer so no overclocking; I wouldn't know what he wants and neither does he...
ROFL :D no shit.
Meant to say in SIG.
I'm not saying it's speedfan's bug, since it's reading off ASUS's sensor, I merely listed the software I used. I was asking whether there was a problem with that sensor/mobo.
