Recommend me a soldering iron/station

Looking for an iron for general soldering jobs. Ideally a station that lets me control the temps and has some sort of a rest to put the iron on. A friend of mine owns a Weller station (forgot model), which I like very much, so looking for something of the similar design. Not sure about how much am I willing to spend on this, but not over $150. What do you all use?

Try this. It's a Weller, and it is temp. controlled (very important). In my electronics shop, we have 4 of these for shear portability. We have much more expensive one's too, but I realize there is a budget. The link below is a decent price, meaning it's under $150.

The popular recommendation is the Hakko 936 or clones of this. Do a google search for actual opinions, I've used the Weller WLC100 (cheap temp controlled station) with some success. I now own a metcal MX-500, though.
