Yeah, I agree, but I couldn't find a CPU combo that I liked. There are a bunch with OCZ RAM, but I don't know if it's worth the savings. There is this combo with G.Skill, but it's only $10 cheaper, and when you factor in the Corsair rebate, it's actually $5 more.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming (SC2, TF2, GW2 in the future), Web Design/Coding, Internetting
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
Trying to keep it around $700, not including the monitor. Not a real strict limit, but I'd...
Wireless for me. I just got a G7 and I love it. It's definitely lighter than my old mx700 and I'm a big fan of the swappable batteries. They don't hold a huge charge, so you may have to swap them out fairly often if you're going on a long gaming session, but it takes about 5 seconds to do so.
I'm fairly certain that this is a driver issue. I had a 7800gt with 78.71 (I think that was the previous version... whatever the last WHQL drivers were) with no problems in GW, but when I installed the 81.85s, I got this problem. Nvidia lists it as a known bug for the 6-series that hasn't been...
Wow, that actually really helped. I was skeptical at first, but it seems to work really well. I guess I'll just keep these tricools at medium now and save a few bucks. Thanks!
I current have 2x120mm Antec Tricools running on low, a 92mm Panaflo M1A at 12v, and a vf700 at 12v. I'd like to get rid of the Tricools because they're too loud at medium, and don't move enough air at low, and was going to go with 3 fans (replacing the tricools and adding an intake) from Nexus...
Mine craps out if I get the fsb above 270, regardless of multipliers for some reason. Not sure why. I had it at about 2400, but I decided to lower the voltage and set it to 2200. Not too impressive, I know, but I might try to mess with it later.
I also noticed a decrease in frames, but I didn't notice any HDR. It may just be very subtle or something, but I haven't recognized it in either HL2 or CS:S.
To all the invisible shield guys - make sure you follow their directions when applying it (http://www.theinvisibleshield.com/application.html)... the getting it wet part and all that. That stuff will stick like mad when it's not wet and can make applying it a serious pain. And make sure that...
Those things rock. I have one on my iPod and it's awesome, I prefer them over a regular case by far. Their replacement policy is nice, too; just register the thing, and if it gets messed up, they'll ship you a new one and then, after you receive it, you ship yours in, so you never have to go...
I finally upgraded my video card, so I just picked one of these up from ZZF. Seems like it does great things for temps and noise... this damn tiny fan is driving me mad.
LogicSound: The vf700-cu is the better of the two, and from what I've read, you shouldn't have any problems with the 6800gt.
I noticed that HL2 took a performance hit with the latest update... my first reaction was that it was because it gave you an HDR option, but that shouldn't make a difference in any of the current levels, should it? Lost Coast is going to be the first chance to see HDR with HL2, right?
Oh...
I know it's said over and over, but I really don't care if a system is "next-gen" or not. I'll buy it if it has games worth playing. I'm certainly going to pick up the Revolution, if only for Zelda, and I'll probably pick up the PS3 for the latest Final Fantasy.
I dunno, I think the...
Hmm, I was thinking of picking up a nexus 120mm as an intake for my p180... maybe I should spring and pick up two more to replace the two tricools that it comes with. I have them on low and I've also noticed that they barely move any air. Thanks for the info :)
Also, SPCR rates the Antec...
You could pick up some cheap fans from a local tech store that just use molex connectors and see if that helps anything. That way you can bypass the motherboard and any control that it's exerting over the fan speed (if that's what's actually happening).
I haven't tried on dialup, but I've read that it works well. I'm definitely a fan of GW, especially because there's no monthly fee. For me, when I'm paying monthly for something, I feel like I have to play it to get my money's worth and it just turns into a chore... so something like this is...
Thanks for the advice. I'm not really in dire need of a video card upgrade, it's true... all I'm playing now is Guild Wars and HL2/CS:S. The main thing is that this card's fan is really, really loud, and I'd like to replace it with a vf700-cu as soon as possible. But I don't want to start...
I remember the 6800gt seemed to be quite popular back before the 7-series cards... now, at $299, is it still a card worth thinking about? I bought an eVGA 6600gt about a month ago with the intention to step-up shortly after (I just needed to get my computer together). So now I'm trying to...
My brother has my old ti4600, and I had used 44.71 the whole time I had it and it worked fine. Then he got it and HL2 + those drivers would restart the machine. So he upgraded to 77.71 and everything has been working since.
I'm trying to keep my pc as quiet as possible, and the second-loudest fan (stupid stock 6600gt fan is the loudest... I'll pick up a vf700-cu when I upgrade) is the NB cooling on my DFI nf4 ut-d. I can control when the fan should turn on, and I think I have it at 55c now and it rarely gets this...
I can usually get it unhooked somewhat by just pushing down on the tabs, then I wedge (well, not really wedge, it usually fits in easily) a flathead screwdriver between the tabs and the mounting... thing. I forget what it's called. Anyway, twisting the screwdriver usually manages to ease the...
Nah, I screwed up, playing games isn't causing the high temps, it's just the sensors being odd after standby. What happened was I came out of standby and started playing and then checked and I figured that it was gaming that caused the problem. But if I restart and play for a while, the temps...
So, after more testing (and finding this thread), I decided that the problem was being caused by standby. For some reason, after coming back from standby, my cpu temp was being reported about 15c higher than it really was, and I either lost my oc or it just wasn't being reported. After a...
I idle at about 33c in Windows (Venice w/ xp-90 and m1a), and I use Everest or nTune to get the temps... they both work for me; I'm not sure which one is better.
I had the same decision to make and I went with the 3000+. It was cheaper and I want to upgrade to dual core in a year or so... plus it's simple to oc to 3200+ speeds. I have a weird YBBLE chip that has issues going over 270htt even with low multipliers, but 270x9 = 3800+ speeds, which isn't...
I don't like the move; I was really hoping that every console would have an hdd, that way every game could take advantage of it without worrying if they'll leave some players behind. If there were two versions and BOTH had hard drives, then I wouldn't mind it so much.
I think mine's great. It's not quite perfect, the screws in the back seem to have a difficult time going in, and the door is somewhat flimsy... and it can be a pain to route the cables. But I'm very glad that I bought mine.
I have a 3000+ (not oc'd at the moment) with xp-90 and panaflo m1a (as5, but I only put it on about a week ago, if that matters... the burn-in or whatever) and am seeing very high temps after gaming (namely hl2). I idle at about 33, and after 30 minutes of prime95 they're in the low 40s, but...
Update for the YBBLE... I tried it on a DFI Ultra-D, and I still couldn't break 270 even with low multipliers... so looks like it wasn't board-limited as I first though. That, or I'm doing something wrong.
Wow, dead already? Dell's listing the 7800gt for $488.95 now, unless I'm missing something. I wish I had seen this yesterday.
edit: nvm, back to 391. That was odd.
double edit: It shows 391 on the product page, but goes back up to 488 when I try to add it to my cart.
Hmm, I have a 6600gt that I bought with the intention of using the step-up program... I wonder if you can use this in conjunction with step-up.
I guess I'll email them and find out. I'd probably jump on this deal if that'd work.
Sorry to resurrect this, but I thought I'd let anyone who was interested know what's up...
I picked up a DFI Ultra-D after my Epox 9npa+ultra's onboard ethernet crapped out without warning. So far, I'm extremely pleased. CPU-Z is reporting that the voltage is a stable 1.360V. So, I have no...
My epox 9npa+ultra had 1.45v on auto... and I thought Venice chips usually had 1.35-1.4v. With cpuz, it would read anywhere from 1.42 to 1.47 (constantly fluctuating, even when idle).
It was stable, though. I RMA'd it because my onboard ethernet crapped out after about a week, but I didn't...
