SimCity V (2013) - screens/artwork and information

Dremic I can only blame you for using that coupon on SimCity instead of Tomb Raider. :) :) :)

Cities XL 2012 any good ?? lol, im desperate for a updated sim city 4 alike game =/

Its not bad, though its got its own downfalls. Definitely not as polished as SimCity graphically but, after playing some SC5 your not gonna know what to do with all the extra space they give you. Unfortunately, they've got a pretty nasty bug that they apparently refuse to fix, that being a memory leak.

bang on. map sizes are what? 200x the size of simcity5. Piles of variety.
Cities XL is like a quality PC game, and simcity5 feels like a facebook browser game.

Cities XL has a shitload of content, but like the guy above said, its got some major flaws, one being no multicore support. Cities XL is the same as cities XL 2012 and the same as cities XL platinum. The dev went under years ago and the company that got their hands on it now is just a publisher with no dev team. They outsourced for the few items added to the past few games and changed the title, but other then that, there will be no fixes, no patches and no more cities XL unless they add a few more buildings and release it all again next year.
shame because its an amazing game.

if you see it cheap, grab it.

This is one of the few games where I was O.O sooo good for the first day or two then through constant game play the first two days realized how broken went from :) to :( then to .

Well I'm a SimCity fan who actually waited, read reviews, and now won't be buying the game because of the reviews. So we do exist.

Pretty much. Like unwrapping a present in a lot of ways, the first time you see a skyscraper morph its great, then fast forward 8 or 10 hours and you realize most of your actions mean little and the cute graphics are a smokescreen for what's a fundamentally broken game. Then you start another map and think okay I'll make a minigame out of interesting and clever road and zoning layouts, and before long you've hit the wall of disfunction again. Its beauty really is only skin deep. The final stage of this disappointing realization process is a crossroads where you can either live on SimCity subreddit learning all the idiosyncrasies and how to glitch around them (at which point you aren't playing the game anymore and the game is playing you) or you can put it on the shelf and hope in a few months time things improve.

For me I've shelved it because its now happened enough times to be futile where I got 3-4hrs into a city, fell into an unrecoverable hole despite doing everything right and the only way out was deleting and starting over. Its not a matter of needing more bugfixes, the whole game needs to be re-engineered and the terribly executed inter-regional play needs a ground up revamp or be scratched altogether because right now you can't really solo a city, they've designed the game to basically force inter-regional play and yet its precisely that which is so broken.

Ive done the same thing. I havent loaded it up since March 7th. Luckily I have other things to do, more productive things that make me extra money that puts my mind off of the wasted $40 spent on this game.

I too haven't played in a few weeks so I uninstalled it today. Maybe ill come back in a few months...

I am so, so glad I skipped over SC5 at launch and still haven't bought it. As much as I wanted to play the game it isn't worth it considering the crap load of bugs it has. I'll wait a three or four months and see if improvements have been made.

Amazon approved my return... guess I'll never know how well this played (was never able to log on to a server!)

I'll see if I can snag a copy of SC3k or something for nostalgia's sake.

On to Bioshock Infinite!

Yahtzee reviews SimCity. Very good even for people who don't like him.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/7053-SimCity

Throughout the review he accuses EA of thinking they can tell us what is fun or what's not.

"Can I suggest that perhaps you only ever hear from people who like online features because such people are extraverts. And it is only extraverts who think anyone gives a shit about their stupid opinion."

This is only a joke, but someone posted this in the official forums:

Update 1.9

Road Improvements
• Updated the graphics for turn signals to more accurately reflect a variety of stoplight styles
• Fix to dirt roads to make them look less dirty

Text Improvements
• added Bold text to some popups to make them stand out more
• added Italic text to some tooltips to make them stand out less
• corrected once instance of misue of "their" vs "there" which was considered game-breaking

General
• Removed EU-2 server as players were complaining about losing their cities; now no more cities will be lost on this server
• Added EU-2A server; please expect rollbacks while we get this server optimized
• Increased zoom in level maximum by 1%, now our Mayors can see closer
• Added support for most popular brand of Logitech Racing Wheel controllers

That's perfect satire to mock the official notes.

anyone else experience this

i'm sure you've all seen it, but this cracked me up. Banner add here on the [H].

It would be impossible for EA to be any more full of shit than they already are ^_^

Yeah, along with the unskippable ads for it on YouTube...

I thought they had pulled marketing for this game. Apparently now they feel it's "good enough" to keep pushing it. Disgusting.

Its not even good enough for me to come back and play it. Its still broken in many large annoying ways. Though I have enjoyed the NFS they gave me as a "sorry we fucked up bad" gift.

It's not about it being "good enough" now--i mean, they barely fixed anything. And i'm using that word (fix) liberally.

As you can tell by the reduced frequency in this thread, they've decided the shit-storm is over, so turn the marketing back on!!

I wish i was one of those photoshop whizzes... i'd whip of a version of that that says:

SIM SHITTY
Your Shitty, Our Way.

BACK AND SHITTIER THAN EVER!

Give it a year. Then realise its fundamentally broken.

Had it for a week now and only playing in private sandbox to get a feel for the game. No issues fr me, no connection issues.

City size is a pain...maps feel like 1km x 1km. But the region interaction seems to work.

My complaint is the game feels shallow....not many buildings...not even a subway. It feels like the game only has 1/2 the content of sim city 4 and only a fraction of citiesxl. I suspect that's what dlc is going to mike us for.

If they just actually, ya know, put effort into Simcity V it would be an amazing game. I play it because i WANT to like it. But all the bugs and glitches just make me want to alt-F4 every time I notice them :(

My friend is marrying this guy whom, while being a nice guy, turns out to be a middle manager at EA. When I met him, I half-jokingly, half-seriously referred to his company as "the evil empire" of video game publishing. When he was legitimately puzzled and asked me why, I explained that he works for the company that gamers love to hate because of X, Y, Z (you all know).

He had no idea that a contingent of gamers actively dislike his company for the perceived negative impact they have on the industry. He is a gamer himself, so I found it puzzling and a bit sad. Oh, and this was before the SimCity launch. I'll bet after this debacle he has had some time to reflect on our conversation a bit with a new perspective. :p

Just blows my mind. I wonder if everyone else there is living in some kind of fantasy...

You have got to be shitting me. He claims to be a "gamer" and has never heard of EA's reputation? Come on, now.

They probably beat him there if he acknowledges free will. :D

The real troublemakers get to play SimCity. They also have to act like they're enjoying it.

Use a belt with a custom notch a little tighter then your neck and build up padding so your squeezing off blood flow through your main arteries instead of crushing your windpipe...blood choke...much faster and less painful then asphyxiation I would imagine.

...I don't think anyone's going to top that. That's for sure.
