The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

Yeah, I don't think Jakob's ever had elemental damage in BL1 either IIRC. They make some nice sniper rifles though.

Matter of fact, are there even sniper rifles in BL2 that don't have scopes? Can't say I remember coming across any that didn't.

I've found one so far at level 19. So they do exist, but they're pretty rare.

A sniper rifle with no scope? That makes no sense.

A sniper's rifle would be a rifle in use by a sniper, not one that has a magnified optic on it. So really in Borderlands 2 I don't think there are any sniper rifles, or any need to distinguish from un-scoped rifles, if we're going to get autistic about it. It's about the role in which it's deployed, not the attachments.

Just define it by the rules of the game: regardless of attachments, range, damage, fire rate, accuracy, magazine size, a sniper rifle is a gun that uses sniper ammo. No need to get all dramatic about it

I'm going to pretend I understood what you just said and nod my head.

*nods head*

odd...

game crashes. Notice the process in windows is borderland2.exe(32bit DX9)

does this game not use DX10+ at all?

Is there any way to identify E-Tech guns apart from firing them? The only E-tech gun I've found is the one given to you during the 'tutorial' mission about them - and looking at that weapon there doesn't seem to be anything special about its name or attachments.

Wow Gunzerker sucks even more than Berserker sucked in the first game. I say this as a day 1 Berserker player who has a level 69 in every class in the original game. I made it to level 15 and gave up on Gunzerker aka Useless Mexican Midget. Patch him up to par with the rest of the classes and I'll consider playing him again.

I'm not terribly impressed with Borderlands 2 overall. UI and menus are a huge step back and just as glitchy as the last game. Graphics are basically the same with some minor improvements. I like the physics additions but they are largely superfluous eye candy with all major props still being static. I like the increased difficulty. I do not like the new drop system -- B1 was already too grindy, there's no reason to make good items even rarer except to please grinders and they've got plenty of MMOs to ply their trade in. Story is still hilarious and awesome, even if it all feels very deja vu... meh.

Maybe I was expecting Borderlands 2 to actually be Borderlands 2 and not a huge Borderlands 1 expansion pack where they improved almost nothing. My bad.

edit: and low ammo forcing ammo scavenging constantly breaking up the pace and flow of gun battles. I do not appreciate having to scour areas for ammo while a gun battle is raging. It was a fucking batshit stupid idea.

seriously never had this problem once and is easily remedied by useing all weapon types in your loudout.

does anyone know what this does?

There are 4 random things that change the lights (a TV, a wall switch, a floor lever, and valve wheel)

I got them all green but have no idea what it does.

Found during the Mission called "Splinter group" for Tannis, at the end before you enter the big room with the whirlpool in Bloodlust Ramparts.

was wondering the same thing but I couldn't figure it out either. I was guessing they would reveal a vault symbol or something but according to this they're both in plain sight, so no idea. maybe a weapon chest or something, but then there's already that one locked with the electric fence.

haven't tried zerker yet but never once ran out of ammo in the middle of a firefight, the pacing is usually pretty good here, and bordering on laughably easy since I feel like I'm getting constantly showered with ammo drops, from both mobs and containers.

only exception I can think of is the caustic caverns, that level is just brutally long and packed with tough mobs, protips: bring lots of money and fill up any chance you get, and make sure your backpack is empty because you will be finding tons of good loot. and DO NOT waste ammo on larval varkids, just melee them little shits since they are weak, just don't let them transform (really cool mechanic btw).

agree the ui is damn annoying, but not so bad once you figure it out. just stick with hotkeys to move items around, like E to compare/swap, Q to drop. you can also drag and drop items with the mouse in case you haven't noticed.

also agree the drops completely suck in general, but this is nothing new. even in the last game, 99.9% of what you find will be total crap. they could've done way better with scaling and char specific drops here, that's the only thing thats really broken imo. not sure we can call it a "bl1 expansion" though, bl1 just plain sucked imo, but this one I'm enjoying.

pretty sure the e-tech they refer to here are just guns that do slag damage (the purple plasma/goo), according to the story this is some sort of byproduct from eridium refinement used to enhance weapons.

on a related note, anyone try just not turning in zed's mission to keep the gun, does it work? would probably be a good idea to hang on to it until you find better, the one I got as a reward just sucked, and I had no idea he would be taking it back when I turned it in.

I'm loving the game. Been playing with a friend online and this game is bugged to hell. We have now had multiple missions just not go forward at all with the next event. This had lead us to search for shit that doesnt exist. Found we have to quit and restart every time this happens which can be annoying and wastes our time thinking we have done something wrong.

LoL.. I am playing gunzerker and never have ammo problems - nor do I buy much ammo. Do you know what gunzerkers special ability is? Maybe they don't suck so bad after all....

:D:D:D

You found one of the easter egg -- this whole level (and the pizza quest) is homage to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Solving that puzzle (turning all lights green) makes that enemy pop up. That enemy had a name... did you notice that? His name is a play on the bad guy in TMNT.

Hell, did you notice the names of the bad guys in the pizza room? They all had the same name as the Teenage Mutant Ninja. :)

E-Tech weapons show up as pink/magenta rarity, and they are not just Slag weapons.

Example:

Here's one with an Shock damage modifier

Here's a Fire damage one

Basically, if you paid attention during the Zed/Dr Mercy quest, E-tech guns convert the mass bullets into some sort of energy. The effect varies depending on the type of weapon.

has anyone completed the game? are there any levels the quality of old haven, which has like 12 loot boxes?

I got the TMNT thing but I didn't know the lights made that guy show up. I randomly hit the wall switch and he came out. I didn't even notice the lights till after I killed him. I then played with another button and noticed the lights change.

no, but I found a way to farm a red box in like 15 seconds per.

just going and killing the boss seems to yield better results.

Haven't found a level that really stood out where I farmed it for chests. If you are looking for gear upgrades I suggest the slot machines. Ya its luck based but you get so much cash with nothing to really spend it on you can find something good. I found many upgrades doing this.

Nothing bad I can say about the game, quite the opposite, I think it's incredible in every way, but...

... what the hell is with the weird difficulty level with enemies?

I'm level 29, shields at 1933, health at 3342, put out solid damage, but now I'm in later/last level areas and even though guys are even lower level than me in places, I'm getting wasted.

I've been one-shotted by robots left-and-right, and even level 27 skags and robots that are a full four levels lower than me can one-shot me, taking all my shields and 80% of my health in one shot.

Even lower level enemies in higher level areas just waste you? Instead of being higher level in number, they just do massive amounts of damage?

I don't get it... no enemies are higher level than me, and most are still actually lower than me, between one and even four levels, are massively over-powered.

maybe it is the mario kart syndrome? the enemies stay strong to keep up yet they don't change in other ways?

maybe it is the mario kart syndrome? the enemies stay strong to keep up yet they don't change in other ways?

Haha, I'd have no idea about "Mario Kart syndrome" since I never played the game.

I like a challenge, but it's a bit insane and, at times, frustrating.

Some guys are level 25 and one-shot my shields and half my health, and all the enemies just seemed to have had their dmg output tuned-up for some reason, even though I'm level 29 with high shields and health.

It's just odd. If they were a higher level, than at least you'd know that maybe you should go over-level somewhere else, if even possible.

I've even noticed there are certain parts of the world where enemies level-up to your level as you go, which is actually pretty cool. Not the lower level areas, but the mid-to-high level areas.

I just don't get the amount of damage enemies in these last areas are putting out when supposedly they're 2-4 levels lower than I am at this point. Maybe it's what you mentioned, though I'm not sure exactly what you mean, since I never played the game.

huh strange so all e-tech are pink rarity? maybe it's just coincidence that both mine happen to be pink slag weapons, haven't found one in any other element yet. but yea I seem to remember him saying like some kind of barrel mod that makes them go pewpew, couldn't really hear shit cause the voice audio in these games always suck, and the subs timing is terrible.

Do I miss a lot playing on ATI card? :) After seeing some PhysX videos levels look fun but empty.

Damn how are you level 18 at that point? Did you hang onto the quest for a while or something? I think I was like lever 12 when I did that mission.

I usually try to explore and do as many side missions and stuff as I can before actually doing main missions.

whew, finished first playthrough tonight.

Gearbox knows how to make a final boss. Damn that guy was tough.

Was level 30 when the boss died but the XP from the boss pushed me to 31.

Personally I think it adds to the game. I haven't made it very far, think I'm level 15 or so, but I really like the effects it adds to weapons and stuff.

No, not the bad guy. It causes Flinter to spawn, a play on Splinter, the sensei of the Turtles.

I found a bug or glitch in "The Dust" area, I think

I completed the hodunk speedway in record time without actually doing it.

There is way to enter the speedway without going through the main gate. I walked in, found the random guy and it said I did it. I can't interact with anyone or anything in the speedway but I completed the challenge.

I am not suppose to be able to enter it yet but I did.

I went from a 6970 to a 670 just for PhysX in this game, the effects were just too cool looking.
